It's... no? It's a weird movie about unicorns to be sure, but it's not about gay culture. It's based on a book, the original premise of the book was completely different, and the author sort of cobbled everything together from half-remembered bits of fairy tales and things he read in his childhood.

I really don't know why I'm trying to debunk this.
