I, the Master of Meat, feel obligated to somehow be involved with this.

Perhaps create a subforum similar to Prospering Grounds, but for new users? Make them prove that they can behave themselves for, say, 2 weeks?

no, that defeats the purpose of registration. we have an approval queue for brand new registrations, which is enough to deter everyone except the most motivated retards.

I'd love a "prove you know how to archive" test added to registration, even if it's as simple as "go get the archive URL for this page" or something - you wouldn't even have to make a new archive, just get the link.

so like https://nytimes.com is the prompt and https://archive.ph/M8CJI the expected response (some smarts needed for the rolling domain, probably just check the last part of the URL or something

of course the actual test should be on a famous cowlink of some sort

Presumably anyone who becomes a 'true and honest' paypig can get the fresh meat tag removed. The crypto donation process is a sort of IQ test or mark of not being low effort.

I assume then the threshold is mainly based on number of posts? If that's the case, then new users who want to become 'trusted' will need to post more. Nobody should give a fuck about being respected but they will. Can't new friends be welcomed without being encouraged to join in too much?

Didn't you drop the 'newfag' tag because a) people can see join dates anyway and make their own judgement and b) threads would get cluttered up with 'shut up newfag' comments?

It's a compound of factors. It's not strictly time based because I don't want to reward people for making sleepers.

I might retool it so only mods + the user himself can see the tag on his posts.

The "Pick a fight with the biggest guy" meme isn't something you should ever do. If people want to check you because you're new they'll send somebody to check you and then you stand up to that guy and possibly fight him, but if you start picking fights randomly you're going to step on some toes and get fucked up. Also depending on where you are there could be race politics that make it a million times worse if you do it to somebody outside your race.

Nobody will pimp you out for cigarettes though it's not the 1990's anymore.
