The space probe New Horizons is currently doing its closest flyby of Pluto! Just hours ago, the probe snapped this picture, which is the clearest photo of Pluto we've ever seen:

If you're an astronomy nut like me, this is very exciting!

Let's play "Spot the special snowflake kids!"

And what exactly IS out in the Kuiper Belt?

edit: saturn is better anyway *sigh*

Why can't the government spend more money on badass space exploration and less on funding SJWs to go to college and complain about cis male shitlords

I don't have much interest or perhaps any interest in astronomy and yet, this is exciting, to see what we managed to accomplish within space. Last time, it was having a probe land on a rock passing by the earth. Now, we get closer pictures of Pluto. Is it wrong to feel that within our lifetime, we might achieve an even greater breakthrough within astronomy or anything related to space.

Probably because SJW's think their ideas are more important than exploring the vastness of space. They think their complaints about some CIS-Patriarchy is more worthy than having even more knowledge of the cosmos that is part of our universe.

Space can't bring any sort of (short-term) profit - financial, political, etc.

During the Cold War, the development of space technologies on both sides of the Curtain were driven by military necessity and prestige - after the USSR broke up, space exploration was obviously put on the back burner.

I had an interest in space when I was little, and I still do. When I was a kid, all there was of Pluto were speculative images (like paintings), and blurry telescope photos. Now I can finally say that I've seen all 9 planets up close.*

*(Yeah I know - Pluto is a dwarf planet now.)

its a reliable, low power use,and radiation resistant mips cpu that they used for dozens of missions and know most bugs and code for it.
although i would like to see a modern cpu like a arm based one or one with a gpgpu capability to process data faster on the craft.

EDIT

Best pluto resolution from 1930 to closest approach by new horizons, amazing.
