I think I may have hit my limit. There are plenty of things where I fundamentally disagree with people on, but usually I can understand the logic that led them to that conclusion. No matter how wrong I think they are I can at least figure out how they got to the conclusion that they did.

I however cannot for the life of me figure out why people are so ardently defending this movie. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that they aren't all secret pedophiles, but I just can't figure out a logical reason why they feel like this is the hill they need to die on.

My assumption is that those who aren't pedophiles would defend it because it's directed by a black, Muslim woman and the surface intent that it's supposed to "criticize" sexualization.
 
I don't care about defending/not defending the movie, but it is amusing that for all the "cancel culture gone too far" whining, it seems that we now have the exact same whiners doing the exact same cancel culture shit. Truly entertaining.

Ignoring such being done simply for the sake of fan service, I can only understand nudity (and by that I mean the explicit variety) being displayed to be disturbing (be it a mangled body, a body being autopsied, etc.), gross and disturbing in a psycho-sexual way, or perhaps with animal-like characters (like for example Medusa) but you rarely see these exceptions used.

It couldn't kill these people to either be a bit more modest or honest about what they're doing especially if it is for the sake of fan service.

iirc there was a commenter on a joe rogan clip about roman Polanski that mentioned how he was framed by the freemasons While I don't believe in the freemasons crap it was interesting to read the comment

They forced him into admitting it with a PR campaign and a plea and than tried to walk back the plea.

EDIT: Another thing worth noting is the Youtube trailer for it has 1.9 million dislikes. That is almost the population of Slovenia, and is 500k dislikes off from Logan Paul's godawful apology video for filming a dead person in Japan. Yeah, no, this shit is something you have to legit be braindead to even try and defend, even to be contrarian and for no other reason.

At first glance, it almost looks like this film's intent was to attempt the Serbian Film gambit - where it claims it's doing what it does for some honorable or reasonable reason, but in actuality it's just being done to be as edgy and controversial as possible for the sake of doing it - only it backfired hilariously. But that really isn't the case here.

It's only when you dig deeper and hear/read about what happens in the film that you realize just how fucked up this is. A supercut of this movie's most objectionable scenes would almost certainly land whoever made such a thing on a watchlist - it's that bad. When you have a film with this much sexualized child content, the question must be countenanced of why it was done this way, and while some would argue the shock is necessary, the real reason is patently obvious and has everything to do with every single shot in the movie purportedly being filmed the way one does porn. This was a give-away for one very special group of people who probably should be in prison.
 
I believe part of the reason this movie is so shit is the bad writing. The main character is consistently doing things that are horrible, yet only has an epiphany during the dance contest as she is undulating. This is lazy writing, and should have had more moments of crescendo leading up to this moment.

That and the child porn. That also makes the movie shit.

Libertarians and liberals generally seem to have a simple belief that everything perceived as conservative or condemned by perceived conservatives and right wingers in general is illiberal or a hill to die on at it's core and needs to be fought or liberated.

While I know it's not really comparable there are a lot of parrarels between what's happening with cuties and MAP and what used to be happening around LGBT in the old days before it was normalized.

The foot is in the door, the "debates" are on. And conservatives, being conservatives, already lost because as they are ripping their hair out trying to explain to liberals why kiddie diddling is wrong the liberals are already loading their guns with "You're a biggot" bullets. It worked for everything so far, up to transitioning kids so why not take it even further.
