.net through Tor or .onion?

Is there a difference between using .net domain through Tor network and .onion?

I was listening to a MATI stream and null mentioned that it's faster to use .net with Tor (I know I'm probably getting the technical details wrong, but I think it's because it doesn't have to go through as many servers). But using clearnet with Tor has the advantages of Tor such as being able to find a route to the site even if blocked.
