I mean, you say they have many horrifying behaviours (British English, people, this is the Neopets thread we are talking about). But don't straight people have that many hundreds of evil acts? Straight men, after all, do most of the actual sexual crimes in the world, and I don't see a huge chunk of the population disown men as a whole (most women have started to, but men themselves never fight other men for their actual wrongs).

There's no denying men do the majority of sexual violence... but is it majority straight men? I think there might be a per capita issue here with gay men...! It's a fair enough point and I hope that I've conveyed I do not hate gay people and will judge them as individuals even if I think the group has more bad than good, and I hate to pull the women-accountability meme, but women also have uniquely destructive and over-represented behaviors they'll write off as well while still bringing up the men facts. I think it's a huge blind-spot to say men don't condemn men's wrongs vs the amount who do them - if anything I'd say in doing so your portraying the same behavior I'm accused of here. If your average man was in charge of things he's probably just stomp a rapist to death in the street. That also edges into the racism arguments about majorities of minorities and total blame being assigned and such - it's per-capita all the way down. I'm a prolific hater of the gender-war threads, and sometimes I understand where either one could be coming from, but it's just healthier to be civil instead of raging in an echo-chamber like they do.

Well yeah it's probably a nice achievement. But I don't think the game is in a state to be enjoyed like that.
Have you played any of the Neopets clones? Grundo's Cafe and Neopets Classic being the main two.

Well, a big part of the appeal is it's my own 22 year account, I've got history with it, it's tied to events in my life that mean something to me. I still think you're going overboard with the current Neopets hate, especially since you've never actually played it in it's current state. There are ups and downs, bad and good things, but at it's core it's ultimately not that different and there is a more consistent player-base in many years. I'll admit, it's kind of disappointing one of the only other people consistently interested in Neopets around here is so negative about it, haha. I'm Fyora's strongest soldier and I'll only bad-mouth it roughly half the time!

They had an issue with people acting like tumblrite socjus fags for a while after they started allowing LGBT stuff, enough that the editorial in the Neopian Times had someone asking about it. Did they finally put a stop to that?

"Doing something about it" goes far beyond punitive action. It's about prevention, and men do not do enough for that with every little "micro-aggression" they allow.

Prevention works better than punishing. Like, for example, the Neopets economy is filled to the brim with cheated Neopoints. Rather than just banning the cheaters, they should have had prevented in the first place something like this ever happening, and dealt with the consequences. Freezing cheaters does nothing if the cheated Neopoints and items are still circulating the conomy.

They actually were going to stop apparently last year or so. When Runescape stopped doing pride events, TNT was not going to do anything anymore either. Until it was like the 20-ish of the month or so and the Neopets community began their complaining campaigns on why there was no pride items or anything this day. Shortly after those many threads, they made tons of pride items and were all like "we were preparing this much stuff!" but you don't fool me. It's clear they wanted to stop because of Trump winning. Look at this release.

People on the community, of course, managed to spin to be about "when gay marriage was legalised".

Yes, that's the plot I was referring to there. But nevermind my autistic rambling.

This is Princess Amira (then made Queen). Made like she is because working with humans is much easier than with animal bodies. How could an Aisha interact with items or display emotions with their marshmallow paws?



Something similar happened with the original Maraqua plot. Ancient Maraqua was destroyed by a skeleton Kiko called Captain Dread. The leader of the pirates and the only pirate Kiko.



When it came time to work on the new Maraqua Plot (Curse of Maraqua), staff found that working with Captain Dread was very difficult. Same with older characters such as the Koi. So instead they retconned Captain Dread into Scarblade the Lupe. Lupes were more popular with the playerbase either way. They also added Usuls as most plot main characters because of their popularity.

Neopets was sold to Viacom on 2005 and Scientologists left during that.

The Scientologists were agaisnt EVERYTHING though. Even straight couples. Neopets had zero romance in the old days. The rules were still grandfathered for a long time though until recently.

When the Faeries Ruin plot happened, an user asked in the Neopian Times how come they were able to add romance between Hanso x Brynn and Jazan x Naville, and TNT answered with "we know when to draw the line and what to make acceptable for all ages, but users will inevitable try to cross lines of what is acceptable if we were to give them permission to make romantic stories, so that's why they are all banned instead".

Doug Dohring was the majority shareholder of Neopets from 2000-2005. He used Scientology assets to help the management side of the company. Adam Powell (may he live forever in poverty) and Donna Williams still ran the show. The Neopets staff at the time had near zero interaction with any scientology people. Powell and Williams didn't even know that Dohring was connected with the Church of Scientology for the first few months he was involved with Neopets.

It's wasn't a scientology decision to be sexless and romanceless, it was an Adam Powell decision.

Assuming all gay people are degenerates and they don't police themselves is akin to assuming all men are perpetuating problematic traits and they don't police themselves.

If I had used this as a comparison, it wouldn't have landed as strongly as it did, would it now? Of course it wouldn't have. It's easy to dismiss those arguments unless you see them acting in real time. You consider the statements I made in that post to be wrong, ergo you must also consider that the ones you made before about generalising a whole community equally as wrong in some degree. It's only fair.

I think no one under 25 plays Neopets unless it's due to extraordinary reasons. The youngest person I saw was 20-something and my sister. Basically siblings/family members or the children of people who played Neopets back then.

Only time i go to the forums is to help people get quest items, thats it'.

Which is in and out of itself a flawed system if you ask me. It was meant to be used as a way to force people to manually browse stores way back then when they wanted big stores to be first in the Marketplace, but now it's just an annoyance. It's not like it causes engaging discussions or anything good to happen, and I hate that Neopets clones also copy this.
