Neocities and the Yesterweb - The Second Coming of Tumblr. Led by a massive group of extremist hypocrites that go by neopronouns and full of webrings devoted to "transing the internet".

Just found out about this whole "community" while making a neocities of my own recently. I was shocked at how infected it was with this shit. It's literally inescapable.

Part of the appeal of old internet to me was that all this nonsense didn't exist. Yes, I love the shitty, tacky aesthetics. But it was way more open. People always lament about the wild west of the internet without realizing that they are the ones preventing that with their attempts at censorship and controlling speech that they deem not progressive enough. Yes there were small crazy communities but this restrictive nonsense where you get ostracized for not going along with it did not exist, and that's part of what made it superior to the modern internet.

I'm being extremely autistic about this but idk it makes me MATI. They have no real appreciation for the old internet. They cry about how evil and bigoted the real thing was because people weren't sucking troon cock back then. What's the point of bringing the the old internet back if you put one of the biggest problems with the modern internet into it? It's not authentic or comparable to the real thing at all. It's just troon virtue signaling with a geocities-themed coat of paint. A completely shallow, hollow imitation. That's what pisses me off the most.

It's another thing troons have co-opted and ruined. 2000s art styles, internet, fashion have a special place in my heart. But it's been completely infected by this nonsense to the point where you can't avoid it if you want to participate. And again, they don't even really seem to appreciate it for what it actually was, just use the old aesthetic with their modern sensibilities while talking badly about the era itself for how problematic it was.
Oh boy! My troonsona LOVES playing Halo multiplayer in the 2000's!
I'm not getting bullycided and teabagged at all.

Listen, it's just my artstyle to put random VHS filters over everything for no reason.

In conclusion, this fucking place is filled with hyenas.

It's pathetic and disturbing.

Both of your posts are a shining illustration of the end-result of the LGBT/Gender cult and how it is some sort of twisted hivemind.

Just looking at those screencaps give me the chills. Amidst all the pearl clutching and outrage is a constant "Trans, trans, trans!! Omg am I following any transphobes?? Somebody tell me! Somebody tell me who I'm supposed to block! Worship and protect trans at all costs!!"

This is worse than a mental illness or a cult. It's more like a zombie movie. They were once people, but no longer. Now their only goal is to shamble around and infect and/or attack anything that doesn't have the virus. They put on a mask of sentience by appearing to create and socialize, but it is actually camouflage and/or mimicry utilizing the environment around them to help the spread.

Not really, actually, there is a lot of edgy stuff, religion and wrongthink on neocities, this thread just focuses on the retarded cliques that people actually look at. That's the main thing, if you're not in one of these webrings pretty much nobody will care and people with a serious ideological opposition to social media/proprietary software (i.e, it's not just a fancy discord link) just use paid hosting and are discovered through those spaces or SEO, and everyone else just uses social media now that censorship has eased up. If you're really worried and want a subdomain, pretty much anything goes on worlio.
Regardless, you shouldn't be discouraged, there needs to be more websites that actually have something to say rather than just being a self-absorbed bio that intentionally apes bad web design.
You're probably right. Even with the delisting phenomenon I heard about, you could still link your site elsewhere and completely ignore the Neocities community.

However, with these sorts of things they acquire a "stink", which I don't want to get on me. Big chance I will return to website building because I don't want to allow this crap to chase me from my interests, but in the case that I do, I will use either Straw.Page or this Worlio service you mentioned instead.

My fear would be that the trannies and commies are in bed with the people who have admin privileges for the neocities site itself. So they sniff out wrongthink on your site and next thing you know they can get their admin comrades to help in doxxing you.

They only care about the trendy old stuff. They wouldn't last a week on the actual old internet and not the quirky, romanticized interpretation of it. After all, it doesn't fit their "rules for three, not for me" mantra they enjoy implementing to everyone. Whine about authoritarianism and being told what to consoom, believe or defend, only to do the same exact thing but far more personal and around vulnerable suicidal-empathetic people who are just wanting to be decent hecking humans, only to get put into shackles to keep that oath lest they wanna be ostracized from every social media. Neocities will never be what Geocities was. It'll never be a real website, only (now) a hollow imitation of the real old internet that lies to itself that it's better than the older one while still pretending to respect it.

Your fears are reasonable. "Let people enjoy things" unless it's things/people/trends/beliefs they don't like. "Don't judge anyone for what they enjoy" unless it's things/people/trends/beliefs they don't like. You're either a hardcore orange-man-bad leftie or you're a neutral fencesitter who's really secretly right wing for having very mild wrongthink. Many, many, many such cases.

Being in bed with the admin(s) is almost certainly the case, as it is on almost every single fucking community these shitbags infest.

Somehow you'd have to keep your site off the Neocities community radar, but there was this feature that'd put your site updates into the global feed. You could delete the notifications, however I never was able to determine if it also deleted them from the global feed or just your PoV. Not sure there was a way to turn that feature off, either.

Which I don't like at all. Why does everyone need to know if your stuff updates from even a minuté standard? That should be optional. It's like they're trying to find an easier way to snuff out the wrongthink websites from their pro-genderspecial/leftist site.

It is possible to turn off your profile completely, and I'm pretty sure marking your site as 18+ in the settings will prevent it from showing in the updates feed at all, so you can avoid the whole community and remain out of their miserable sight. But the fact that the community is there and is so ugly still hangs around you like a stink.

Imagine being forced to share an apartment complex with a bunch of loud, obnoxious psychos. You can lock your door and mostly avoid them, but would you really want to keep living there, if you didn't have to?

In the end, the answer for me was no, and I ended up purchasing hosting from a major provider instead. Love the idea of Neocities, hate the people who infested it. People should be allowed to have a static website on a beginner friendly, unintimidating platform without having to worry about discord chats, cancel culture, or trannies. But current year remains a shithole, and your best bet is to follow the very advice these types always spit at you: If you don't like it, leave. With no one outside their creature den to hate, people like this always end up turning on each other, in time.

I saw something called Nekoweb, how is that in comparison? Is it as captured? Absolutely love the 00s anime theme, but I can imagine just because of that, it attracts troons like flies to shit.

Also slightly off topic but one of the only examples I can think of in regards to a real revival of 90s/00s internet is the game Hypnospace. No current year nonsense, and it's shockingly accurate. I wish there was more of that sort of thing in the community, I'm sure there's some others out there who like the old web and aren't just wanting to trannify it. We just need to find each other and stick together I guess.

Nekoweb is a Neocities splinter made by a team of people that are less serious about it than Neocities, and is populated by a much younger userbase. Their main community hub is on discord. They're slightly "edgier" than most of Neocities, in the sense that they love to larp as oldfag 4channers despite being born in 2012, but they're all also mostly some flavor of trans or pro trans.
There's some minor drama and infighting behind Nekoweb's inception, one of the people that initially worked on it, Dokodemo (suni), whom I mentioned here before, caused a stink because she wasn't properly credited when Nekoweb launched. Nothing major or interesting though, but this is the drama summed up by one of the Nekoweb collaborators.

They also love to mention kiwifarms every once in a while and crosspost from this thread in their discord.

First four sites I clicked on under the 'explore' page had pronoun and xenogender bullshit and "a queer coded this" buttons. Not a good look so far. I swear I've seen 2 of those sites on Neocities, too. They looked really familiar. Tells me there may be some degree of crossover, or maybe they all copy paste the same formats/designs.

Checked their Discord server and it's full of morons with pronouns in their bio who often blab about anime femboys and being trans.

Oh, and this awfully suspicious server announcement:

Why would they feel the need to post that? Seems like some mass reporting/canceling has been going down

I want to add something here - there's a specific reply to bulltown's initial update that's missing here that started this whole thing. User ancientcrypt, now dfed, claimed that vivarism is a violent transphobe that wanted her detractors to get raped (citation needed). This prompted vivarism to respond, calling it defamation and ancientcrypt deleted the post, her whole page,
Thanks for adding this, by the way. I discovered all of this after ancientcrypt got deleted.

Forgot to put in my original post, but here is the contents of Vivarisms "defame.txt" that she sent in response to ancientcrypt.

This is defamation. You are publicly making false claims about me with the intent to damage my reputation. You will delete any and all statements that miscontrue my beliefs or misattribute words to me. I have already reported you to Neocities staff. This is your first and only warning.

As a victim of prolonged sexual abuse, I am shocked and horrified that you would put such vile words in my mouth. I have never and will never wish rape upon any person, whether they disagree with my feminist politics or not. If you want to ward people away from me, you are legally required to reference statements I have ACTUALLY made. As a favour to you and anyone else involved in your defamation campaign, here are some suggestions:

- I hate men.
- "Transwomen" are the worst men of all.

For a better understanding of my feminist politics and how I feel about "my detractors," as well as the trauma that biases me against men, I suggest reading the content freely available on my website. Literally, at the time of writing, my last online publication is the story of my older brother abusing me from infancy. That anyone would make or believe such claims about me... It's repulsive. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Delete this comment. Delete all other defamatory statements you have made. Should you reference me in the future, double- and triple-check that what you say is true.

Do we know if ancientcrypt deleted everything themselves, or were they banned?

Stalking the neocities feed a bit recently and nobody is talking about it anymore, looks like people are already over it. lol.

We just need to find each other and stick together I guess.

Both of these have been posted before but in case you havent seen them these are two search engines that are far better than google at finding small old school hobbyist type sites. The sites indexed are often maintained by people who really are into the "old web" and arent just kids larping like you see at neocities.

Pure speculation on my part but I think she deleted it herself. It wasn't just her site that was gone, but her guestbook too, which is on a different platform called atabook.

I feel like 3 days is the average neocities drama half-life, on the 4th day it's like everybody's memories get wiped. Now we wait for a year for vivarism's site to get rediscovered and a new batch of troons will lose their minds.

Something curious: I cannot find any rules and/or ToS for websites. Unless the rules are unwritten and/or hidden somewhere else, you can use practically anything on your site including slurs as your website/user name (and in tags, a few sites use "retard" or "faggot" as a tag). If true, then it's even more ridiculous that anyone is getting harassed for their site content.

Still don't know how these slipped past the cancel crowd, though. lol

Another thing I did for the heck of it:
Out of 2,333 publicly listed sites (going by # of sites shown per page on the browser)...
1,016 are tagged with"trans" (44%)
1,130 are tagged with "LGBT" (48%)
And 1,775 are tagged with "queer" (76%!!)

On the contrary (to put into perspective)...
4 sites are tagged with "conservative" (2%)
5 tagged with "redpill" (2%)
And 9 tagged with "MAGA" (4%)

So as a surprise to absolutely no one who's browsed the site for more than an hour or so, it is literally 75% radical soylibs and a smattering of everything else crammed into the remaining 25%. Makes me want to see similar stats for other sites/services (I know some exist, but not for every site) to find out just how badly captured the internet has become.

It is curious, for sure. I have no idea where you would find the guidelines for site creation either but it seems that most things fly for the most part?

I will say, clicking through those two sites was slightly amusing.
The first one, both buttons link to "Buddy Holly but it's just the riff" and the second site's links go to a video removed for violating community guidelines and... A Rick Roll LMFAO. Glorious.

@Fallout Fan

Do you mean this ToS ? It's about as broad as Kyle's lawyer could likely get away with, so it's not too useful, but the basic gist is so long as you comply with the law, (and quit SEO spamming the site) though the at-will termination clause and the deeply vague definition of what constitutes "harassment" could be an ugly combo.

I've heard tale premium users can get away with a lot more than free users, and while it would make sense, it would be cool to see some proof.

Some quick thread tax:

"Guys, the piss saga is insane"

One of the things the girlies down at lolcow alerted me to was that the vast majority of stupid takes and drama happens on the little twitter-microblog thing all the gendies love to use more than their ACTUAL WEBSITES, and that I was missing out by not giving them a look.

And sure enough, I stumble across this gem not two pages into the latest activity page (archive):

neo1.png

"Overstimulating" is a good way to describe this person's website (archive). as it opens with obnoxious, squeaky jazz, spinney things, slidey things, and sideways textboxes where the author spells photos as "fotos"

From her blog page:

Warak "Lopster" Lobloid is a neocities user who has stood out by running the Overload The World With Fun and Research The One True God Neocities Society. He has been trapped in a timeloop for over 3 years and is also the main antagonist of The 2037 Neocities Cult Callout Google Document. Originally a member of the Dojima Family, he goes on to become the patriarch of the Nishikiyama Family

-He/him

Sure you are.

Oddly, someone has taken to archiving the site recently - as in, some of the pages I tried to upload were as recent as one week to just one hour old. Either the webmaster herself has decided to document her embarrassment, or this person has started to attract attention. No idea what the reference to the "cult callout" document is about, but if it's real, it may be related.

"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"

Making that the title of your neocities is one hell of a statement, I'll give you that. Opening up the site causes my fans to instantly start running at mach speed, and a popup notifying me I need to allow DRM to play the embedded music. For that extra-cozy oldweb feel, I guess.

Stylistically, the site is a glitterbomb even by neocities standards (archive) everything sparkles, and if it doesn't sparkle, it's got rainbow animations on hover. Content wise, it seems to mostly be a WIP, but between the perfume reviews and the open fondness for all things girly, I think we have managed to find the rare woman who (openly) enjoys being a women, despite the she/they listed in her pronoun list for cover.

She also seems to be trying to use her site to sell some stock images I mean photography (archive) Because nothing says "I will pay money for that" like 35mm snapshots of a goddamn dumpster, (30 bucks a print BTW)
