Neocities and the Yesterweb - The Second Coming of Tumblr. Led by a massive group of extremist hypocrites that go by neopronouns and full of webrings devoted to "transing the internet".
Well, they're doing their own thing and seem to having fun, so good on them. It's a profoundly substance-less work, though, a couple of interviews, one or two absolutely heinous how-two guides somehow formatted to be unreadable by human and machine alike, and a lot fart huffing over how big nekocities districts has gotten.
The artwork ranges from "its fine" to HOLY SHIT DIE GODDAMN YOU. Whoever did that one catgirl pinned to a cross with cutesy heart nails needs their pencil stolen, in particular. "The web died for your sins"? I can't tell if I'm supposed to take it seriously or if its a joke.
Nekoweb never enticed me as a viable alternative to Neocities, if infighting doesn't get them, being based in Germany while openly appealing to terminally online speds most definately will, terms of service designed to absolve themselves of everything or no.

This started with a journal entry she wrote in 2020/21 condemning the trans cult (A);
As a tl;dr, here are some of the important excerpts that summarize it well enough;
i don't consider myself stupid or foolish for clinging to transgenderism for so long. womanhood is hard even for the most well-adjusted, so it's no surprise that i, an autistic lesbian disadvantaged from birth, fought desperately to opt out. like most girls, from a young age i absorbed the sexism that surrounded me and turned it inwards. people treat girls as if we're vapid and empty inside, only useful if we're pretty and subservient, overall more like props than people.
in fact, it is highly discouraged to doubt a trans person's self-identification, much less the tenets of transgenderism as a whole. as a result, whenever i encountered ideas that confused or frustrated me, i avoided thinking about it at all.
that fear is by design. the nature of gender ideology is that you cannot question it under any circumstances whatsoever because the smallest hint of dissent apparently puts dozens of trans lives at risk. oh, you're confused? well that's shameful ignorance at best, and you'd better shape up quick because it's no one else's job to educate you. and at worst, it's proof that you're an evil terf who is literally killing trans people, so we have permission to threaten you with violence until you grovel at our feet. ... i wish that it didn't play out like that, but in a lot of cases it really does. the above lines are practically paraphrasal.
This, naturally, was met with level-headed discourse and normal debate from trans individuals;

Skipping forward a bit, earlier this year, she writes "Friendly Reminder That I'm A Feminist 'Killjoy'" (A), in which she shows the guestbook screenshots above (and some more), as well as doubling down;
It's like anorexia. How can I, in good conscience, agree with my friend that yeah, she IS fat and she DOES need to starve herself to be loved? That would not only be untrue, it'd be unethical. It'd be actively harmful. Carelessly, maliciously, I'm encouraging her mental illness and driving her deeper into delusion.
(It's actually a pretty well articulated entry on everything wrong with the trans cult, I'm just clipping the frank statements for brevity. Worth reading.)
There's also another followup she wrote (A) that doesn't really matter that much for this story,
Anyways, people seemed content to just block or argue with her in on her neocities profile, and very little of this leaked into the general discourse.
That changed when another (completely banal) website, called bulltown, linked her page.
Which, as you can see, means literally nothing as this website contains a wall of buttons; (if someone has an archive of his page with the link to vivarism on it, I can update this, but I couldn't find it anywhere)
However, neocities trannies, looking for something to be mad at, sniffed out that link and the horde set fourth;
Initially, bulltown responded with this;
Before promptly deleting that and posting this;
and then this;
Eventually, though, bulltown deleted everything relating to this event.
But the damage was already done, and now the entire site is flooded with people announcing their two cents;
The 1st Amendment only protects your free speech from the government. It protects you from being arrested, not from having your post deleted or your account banned from a website.
Some speech has no useful function and must be suppressed. Some speech, if left to its own devices, will suppress all other speech. In other words, free speech absolutism is the first step on the road to fascism.
Now, why would anyone care about the ramblings of this guy in particular? Because he's the epitome of AGP lunacy that permeates this entire "controversy". Best demonstrated by the blog entry "My 2nd year as a girl" (A):

I guess just because you don't have ovaries doesn't mean you don't go into heat every now and then. While I don't think this has anything to do with progesterone (I don't know, maybe), I also expressed my first colostrum a few days ago. Just a few drops out of my left boob, but my prolactin is kicking in! If I keep this up, I could probably lactate.
A couple of my Neocities mutuals have started feminising HRT lately too, so that's nice to see. One of the things that you forget to prepare yourself for is how much your face changes. Before HRT, I had a square jaw, thin lips, and a sort of cro-magnon forehead, but now, I look like the mean of my mum and my dad. Every time I look into the mirror, I see one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen, and sometimes I'll even kiss her.
I want to add something here - there's a specific reply to bulltown's initial update that's missing here that started this whole thing. User ancientcrypt, now dfed, claimed that vivarism is a violent transphobe that wanted her detractors to get raped (citation needed). This prompted vivarism to respond, calling it defamation and ancientcrypt deleted the post, her whole page, even her guestbook. She cowardly responded with a simple "trans women are women" before doing it without addressing anything, as visible in your screenshot. Sadly I don't have the initial thing archived as I only woke up to the aftermath the following day.
It is scary how the whole community took this defamatory statement by ancientcrypt and ran with it, ever since the initial post there's been around 60 or so status updates with everyone saying how their site isn't meant for people that want them dead when vivarism never claimed anything of that nature on her site. They're acting like they're being actively victimized, persecuted and threatened by a presence of a single gender critical website that doesn't even call for violence. It's really ridiculous. All the while they're actively calling for violence themselves (A)
This also made me take a larger look at neocities as a whole - and made me realize just how worse the situation is from when I initially made that autistic post about categorizing all of the latest updated websites. The troon to normie ratio is so, so much worse, it's kind of bleak. A lot of sites that were lead by more stable individuals have left neocities for various reasons in the past year or so, leaving behind trash that treats the website host as twitter reborn.
Kyle Drake made a big mistake by putting status updates in the global feed, now everybody wants to have their moment and farm likes and follows by putting a good old "TWAW, TERFS DNI" status. It's pathetic and disturbing.
I was really curious what Kyle Drake thinks of the monster he created so I spent the last 20 minutes browsing through his socials (mostly his Bluesky) and while there was nothing juicy there, I have to say that holy fuck these silicon valley types are fucking insufferable.
Something like this has already been pointed out in the troonslop games thread by someone else but the people that complain how bad the internet is now due to less creativity are simultaneously for rules against hate speech, slurs, politically incorrect facts etc. Their love for old web design and game graphics is merely superficial, where its just their proggressive values reskinned to look old.

Not really, actually, there is a lot of edgy stuff, religion and wrongthink on neocities, this thread just focuses on the retarded cliques that people actually look at. That's the main thing, if you're not in one of these webrings pretty much nobody will care and people with a serious ideological opposition to social media/proprietary software (i.e, it's not just a fancy discord link) just use paid hosting and are discovered through those spaces or SEO, and everyone else just uses social media now that censorship has eased up. If you're really worried and want a subdomain, pretty much anything goes on worlio.
Regardless, you shouldn't be discouraged, there needs to be more websites that actually have something to say rather than just being a self-absorbed bio that intentionally apes bad web design.
Just found out about this whole "community" while making a neocities of my own recently. I was shocked at how infected it was with this shit. It's literally inescapable.
Part of the appeal of old internet to me was that all this nonsense didn't exist. Yes, I love the shitty, tacky aesthetics. But it was way more open. People always lament about the wild west of the internet without realizing that they are the ones preventing that with their attempts at censorship and controlling speech that they deem not progressive enough. Yes there were small crazy communities but this restrictive nonsense where you get ostracized for not going along with it did not exist, and that's part of what made it superior to the modern internet.
I'm being extremely autistic about this but idk it makes me MATI. They have no real appreciation for the old internet. They cry about how evil and bigoted the real thing was because people weren't sucking troon cock back then. What's the point of bringing the the old internet back if you put one of the biggest problems with the modern internet into it? It's not authentic or comparable to the real thing at all. It's just troon virtue signaling with a geocities-themed coat of paint. A completely shallow, hollow imitation. That's what pisses me off the most.
It's another thing troons have co-opted and ruined. 2000s art styles, internet, fashion have a special place in my heart. But it's been completely infected by this nonsense to the point where you can't avoid it if you want to participate. And again, they don't even really seem to appreciate it for what it actually was, just use the old aesthetic with their modern sensibilities while talking badly about the era itself for how problematic it was.
Weirdly enough, this kind of superficality is not new to the internet age. The Hippie counterculture was all about "community living," "not cutting the past away" and ecology while simultaneously promoting libertine and proggressive social values. They had a superficial liking for conservative style small towns but hated any form of conservative or traditional values.

One of the main obsessions of troons is to rewrite the past and turn it troon-coded. You see it everywhere, not just this. They'll complain about some thing of the past and at the same time claim it was always trans. Be it the web, video games, anime, movies, whatever. They can't relate to anything unless they turn it into an extension of their mental illness.
