Peak Naruto was the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. It's not just the being a fantastic climax pre timeskip, but having a lot of characters, including previous enemies in a team up against what felt like an actual threat.
It would have been a cool arc if any of the good guys ACTUALLY FUCKING DIED! all of them surviving ruined the risk/edge factor.

Shonen characters never die anyways. More seriously, having anyone die for Sasuke would really fucked with the conclusion of him leaving the village.
That would have made the story interesting and beg the question if Saskue was worthy of redemption or to be hunted down for being a traitor that got his own allies killed for trying to "rescue" him.

Rock Lee and Neji should have died during the Sasuke Retrieval Arc.

Keeping them alive was pointless anyway, they did ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOTHING for the entirety of Shippuuden.

And now they are remembered as complete fodder, if they died earlier at least they would not.

I do wonder if someone like Thanos ever had a childhood best friend that looked exactly like Naruto. Acted like Naruto. Sounded like Naruto. To the point that it IS Naruto.

Even though the latest comic on his past shows his "best friend" was Death disguised as a girl.

Kishimoto couldn't write his way out of a North Korean prison. Literally. He wouldn't be able to convince anyone that he's important enough for Kim Jong Un to let go.

Naruto could talk-no-justu Thanos from killing trillions and Kim Jong Un to bring democracy to North Korea. BELIVE IT!

I find it amusing for how much the series tries to sell you "Revenge is bad", Kishimoto to had no issue with shikamaru hunting down Hidan and kakuzu for the sake of revenge.

Among other issues that crop up when you're no longer a retarded teenager and life pretty much kept punching you in the face. You can't talk your way out of it. Sure, you can scream, beg, maybe even suck someone's dick, but 9 out of 10, you can't talk your way out of shit.

Or, remember that Kakashi went on a rampage during the 4th Shinobi War? Revenge is good then too. Some men you just can't reach.

It is almost funny how often they act like talking things out is the best solution but the series shows that the only times it works is vs a common enemy or to resolve misunderstandings. It is treated like a panacea but it only works on only a few situations.

Even though he's practically village royalty, while they're actual nobodies who aren't related to anyone important.
It's worse than that. He's the reincarnation of some godly force. And contains the spirit of one of the most powerful ancient ninjas. So the whole "work hard to overcome your poverty" theme ends up as "be born with the spirit of an ancient god to simply be better than everyone from the start". It's probably one of the worst pieces of writing in a major narrative and candidate for worst plot twist of all time.

Kishi copied Dragon Ball-style "Hard Work" Aesop but he either could not write such a message or he realised that he could not make that message work with the story he wanted to write and ended up retconning everything that had happened until he made the decision. All those retcons make the story have a distinct "patchwork" feel. It feels stitched together. Very uncanny.

The main reason why is because of the anime, not the manga. That should tell you everything.

Nuclear Take: I wish Naruto had just been like the filler seasons after the Sasuke Retrieval arc, none of this gay pretentious "CURSE OF HATRED/WILL OF FIRE" crap, just an actual episodic and more grounded ninja adventure show.

The fillers. Also the movies. The talk no jutsu meme was born because how it was expanded separately from the manga.
Oh, I was talking about how everyone who was not born either incredibly powerful or talented was largely irrelevant by the end. Lee was sidelined without getting to show us the fruits of his hard work, Hinata did basically nothing etc etc. Everyone who was a believer in hard work either was a secret genius (Naruto) or worthless by the end. The closest exceptions to this are Sakura (who is described as a brilliant medical Nin) and Shikamaru (the "smartest" person in Konoha and a lazy bum). I am serious, the last time Naruto underwent harsh training was for the Rasenshuriken (and even then it was made easier with the Shadow Clones which I do not mind as it felt smart). Even Sage Mode came easy to him (easier than it did Jiraiya at least).

This is why you people need to finally start accepting all those team focused fillers over the absolute dogshit that is "canon". If you want actual side character development and attempts at world-building, there's where you look. Just because something is "canon" doesn't make it GOOD, look at the latter half of the series, and I'm not even getting into Boruto, for an example of this.

Fillers is a good way to make side characters play bigger roles and give them moments to shine. To bad it hardly happens.

Blame all the sperging adhd niggers who complained just because it wasn't hyper accurate to the extremely flawed and one note manga.

I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, a lot of characters need a chance to shine. On the other hand, the guys that come up with the filler are not good at writing it. We have to admit that not every filler arc is on the level of the episode where Goku and Piccolo go to driving school or the G-8 arc of One Piece. Most of the time, fillers suck.
