I can't remember a time where drug abuse & alcohol were any less extreme than today, to be honest. People died of alcohol poisoning from bathtub gin during the prohibition period, & they didn't need any television brainwashing to make those cardinal life & death choices. Drug abuse went way up after the start of the War on Drugs.

In fact, many of the drugs that are illegal today were common place in general stores during the days before the age of television that you say allegedly glorify drug use, such as cocaine & marijuana.

Not only that, but the media has done nothing if vilify drug use & users. Have you ever watched the anti-drug PSAs they played nonstop during the 80's? I couldn't crack open a comic book back in my day without seeing a PSA ad disparaging pot smokers for being friendless nor could I avoid the anti-smoking ads that went into vague detail about the myriad of chemicals that went into creating a cigarette.

Really, people who complain about our modern moral depravities have no idea how good they really have it. One of the reasons sexual promiscuity has gone up is because the treatment & containment of STDs have gotten better. Sloth & gluttony don't really have a play in this since those are a matter of brain chemistry rather than circumstance & have been present in humanity since we could first be classified as humans.

I more or less included it on there as an example of something people use in excess. My wording made it seem I was implying that media was glorifying drug use, but that wasn't my intention. It shouldn't have been the first thing I said, that's totally on me.

You would've too if you were interacting with Mr. Bonnell for more than 30 seconds. And to be fair he was the first "debater" who showed how much of a clown Destiny was after the Jon Tron drama.

The act of use in excess is really just hard wired into all of us, & we would eventually get bored of it. This is what's called habituation, in which the increased exposure to something reduces the stimulus & thus causes the user to seek out an increased dose to regain the stimulus. That process of brain chemistry is what's called desensitization, which is that word old people appropriate from medicine when criticizing them youngins for their Mortal Kombats.

Drugs are trickier when it comes to habituation however, as the drug abuse can cause clinical dependency depending on what they are & what they provide. Some people cannot function without their narcotic of choice because their brain has shut off its own production of the chemicals being provided by that drug, increasing the drive to abuse it, which is most typically dopamine. This is why some drug users have withdrawals.
 
I remember I got really fucking annoyed at one of his videos once, because he was talking about how fucking great white culture was, how amazing a music piece by Mozart was, all while playing a Vivaldi song in the background of his video. He then started salivating over a video of a steak.


Beside the obvious irony that he can't even fucking identify one classical music piece from another while boasting about culture, its really amusing when someone talks about how great their culture is, as if they even had a part to play in it.

Those dime-a-dozen nobody black metal bands you see on Bandcamp, Soundcloud & Myspace have more right to boast about their sub-sub-sub-culture than the average Youtube skeptic.

Sad thing is that I actually used to like his videos. Back when I found him through the thunderdome rounds of Destiny, he seemed like he was hip to how things really were & wouldn't be prone to push a pet narrative. I started to dislike him when he obsessed over his hate boner for Shia Labeouf, but even with that decline in mind, this comes as a hard 180 to my eyes & I'm legit surprised by it.

They also all have a habit of claiming to be rationalists while claiming to depend on empirical evidence, which are diametrically opposed concepts as Sam once pointed out in one of his videos. This recent turn of the redpill is a sore disappointment to me.

By the way, the tagline for this thread should be changed to "Uncloseted homosexual Prison gay demands women return to the kitchen."

I don't get the way they use the word skeptic. I thought skeptic meant someone who needs evidence to believe something and was against pseudoscience. The people who criticize anti-vax, alt med etc.

They use that label because people have trust in that word, people expect those who call themselves skeptics to live up to what that word entails & when they don't, nobody notices.

I can't think of a more valid way to utterly invalidate your entire argument straight off the bat. They kept getting sacked, they converted to Christianity and burned their own libraries, generals kept attempting to usurp the throne, the empire was so large it had to divide into east and west portions and still had too little oversight for both, their armies were constantly under-equipped for ongoing attacks, ect.
