When the MOUSE devs made the shotgun in MOUSE, they went off of "The shotgun does a lot of damage at close meaning it can do a 2.15653424652 multiplier at the closest range and if you're too far away it'll do 0.55323232% instead. This is to better balance the shotguns utility as to prevent the player from just sniping enemies from afar with the shotgun because that would ruin the overall balance of the weaponry in his possession and the player would complain that there's no reason to use anything else. We've also added an upgrade system for the shotgun meaning they can do 6% the damage at max, but this is so that the player is better scaled with our scaled up enemies because without a system implemented to ensure the player stays at an even playing field with his adversaries, he'll complain that he feels overpowered, so we've better balanced the weaponry so that's not the case and the player can stay relatively even with his enemies and keep the game a challenge."
the 2016 doom game essentially does this and nobody had the balls to call it bad for doing it, because the game had a killer soundtrack and wasn't complete dogshit. But, brass tacks, the game literally has you collect upgrade points that forces you to go into an upgrade menu and ask you if you want the shotgun's alternate fire to do 40% extra bullet damage or if you want it to be a grenade launcher

i think that's just astoundingly bad game design. people lampshade it as "giving the player choice" but like home boy that allows you to hand-wave away any bad design choice, it's flat out not taking responsibility for the game as a developer lol

When the DOOM creators made the shotgun in the original DOOM they went off of a simple philosophy, "The shotgun fires multiple rounds in straight line and if you dead aim the enemy, it kills the lesser enemies in one shot, the bigger in two maybe three depending on what enemy, and it can kill multiple enemies at once if you aim it properly." That's it.

A shotgun needs to make you feel like a badass, not as if you're handed a close-range sniper rifle without precision aim. Aka. make your shotgun so overly powerful you don't need anything else a la Postal 2. (A gun that can kill the boss in two-to-three hits)

Well I gave the game a try and it seems like there's a weird "marxist doctrine" when designing games these days. I'm not saying that because the game is woke, but I'm saying this because games made by this generation are so obsessed over "balancing" or "utilitarian" type game design. "Everything is useful and used for specific utility!" I'm going to plagiarize a meme from 4chan.
Gunplay is a spook and this is wrong because the tranniest boomshoots where every other texture is either a troon flag or a hammer and sickle manage to be better than mousegame.

Hey, Quake 1 shotgun was good, it was a precision harassment weapon to get people to move. the shotgun was pretty much a pistol, still great though because of the rate of fire for a precis hit scan weapon. Future railguns sucks.

Did you read my post correctly? I was criticizing Mouse Game’s balancing issue where guns are overbalanced.
 
Yeah and you're dumb for complaining about it when having a shotty that doesn't win the game for you is the least of the game's problems. (it's barely a problem in the first place)
I am aware the game has plenty more issues, but I was highlighting a pet peeve that alludes to a common issue a lot of games typically tend to have as their weapons are so boring because they are over balanced. I was painting with a broad stroke on that post, but you’re taking it way too literally.
 

The Completionist's review on it.

MOUSE: PI for Hire needs a level replay feature and a collectible tracker/counter ASAP. I hate being locked out of missable content because the game did not account for stop-and-go progression or exploration.

Am I the only one who remembers the concept phase of this game some years back and how it was going to be more of a mouse-ified gangland film like the original Scarface or other wiseguy-sploitation stuff? I think I wanted that game more. What I've seen so far, it just makes me want to play Fallen Aces again instead.
 
the gtx 1060 is about 10 times more powerful than the vega integrated graphics they put in ryzen laptops. That means that this game isn't playable on integrated graphics

Guy has a point, when i was in elementary school 20 years ago i was playing quake 3 on the integrated graphics on the school computers. i played it on my atom netbook because they could handle quake 3 just fine. This game has a lower level of visual fidelity than quake 3 does and its minimum requirements are the video card i used to play cyberpunk 2077
You know what you're right. That thing I said about the 1060 was kind of retarded and the game could be more optimized. I mostly just thought the other guy was being retarded because he kept saying Unreal when the game's not Unreal.

Same here, I'm already permanently locked out of some shit from the second level or something because I did stuff in the wrong order.

I have played a grand total of one more level since then. Game's okay I guess. Probably not worth $30 though.
