The thing is actually a supercomputer of yesteryear.
I am always somewhat weirded out, even though Moore's Law has been a thing for more than 50 years, to consider that the video card in my computer (and it isn't even a new one) is more powerful than the computer I used back in college with hundreds of concurrent users that still had a punch card reader to read Hollerith cards.

(It also had a virtual punch card reader so you could evade the disk storage quota by just punching gigabytes of shit onto imaginary punch cards.)
A Geiger Counter. Pocket-sized so not to rile anyone up.

Praying I won't need it for anything besides an occasional radon check.
I just got one fairly recently too, just so I could enjoy it going absolutely apeshit when I put it near some of my pieces of late 19th Century uranium glass.

Also a set of miniature ultraviolet flashlights for the same reason. Any time I see green glass at a yard sale or estate sale or whatever I want to see if it has uranium in it.

I know. I may not be from the punch card era, but when I think about the power of a SINGLE core in my current Laptop's I5 processor, absolutely mopping the floor with every top of the line pentium from when I was a kid, it makes you realize even "weak" computers won't immediately die if you load a old game or older software on it

I bought a thirty pack of cheap enamel pins from Aliexpress, all the designs for which will doubtless have been stolen from artists on Etsy.

In my defense, they're actually for my nieces. My SIL is losing her mind over how many toys they have, so I'm giving them each a banner in their favourite colour, and an assortment of enamel pins to put on them. The banners will need to be hung on the wall... my brother absolutely despises anything that damages the paint like adhesive hooks or picture hangers nailed into the wall, so that's definitely a bonus. :P

Really stupid brand name, though.

To be fair, the brand name made sense when all they sold were good blenders.
When I was a kid, my family temporarily had a "Magic Chef" washing machine (a different model pictured below):

I think they started out making microwaves and then started manufacturing all kinds of appliances, including extremely non-cooking related ones, haha.

Growing up we had a refrigerator and range manufactured by General Motors.

it's for washing your aprons and dish towels

Found some little Sanrio boxes in a store. I've had the same ones sitting in my Aliexpress shopping cart for the past six months, so coming across them in the wild was awesome, especially because they were cheaper.

Also got a little Kuromi notebook to keep in my handbag. I know most people use their mobiles now, but no matter what programs I try, I just can't make it work for me. Back to little notebooks I go.

I let my love for Classic Doctor Who blind me long enough to buy a set of Magic cards featuring all the classic doctors and shit..... I've never even played Magic before...... least the art is nice.... I hate myself sometimes lol.

Bought a baby jumping spider. I have one already and love her so much that I've decided to adopt another from a reputable breeder. Site had a lucky dip option so I have no idea what type I'm gonna get other than it's a variant of Regal (hoping for blue mountain but they're all so pretty I can't choose a favourite).

They warned me I'd fall in love with the spider keeping hobby. They warned me but I didn't listen.

I can't tell if that's adorable or horrifying

It's wearing a drop of water as a hat. C:

Jumping spiders are actually kept as pets by a lot of people who have arachnophobia. They're small, easy to keep and are really, really intelligent. For example my girl, Dorothy, will wave to me if I wave to her and will even ask me to give her my finger so she can climb up onto it and sit in my hand! They're minuscule dogs!

These spiders should learn from the marketing that turned brine shrimp into Sea Monkeys.;

Spiders gross me out for the most part but jumping spiders are adorable af. iirc they're also one of the smartest breeds of spiders and can recognize their owners & even learn tricks.

Look at this cute lil' bugger :D makes me want to get one too...

I used these videos to convince my niece that not all spiders are gross and disgusting:

(I'm actually kind of embarrassed that she's scared of insects. Her sister isn't, her mother isn't, god knows my brother and I aren't. At least she likes my rats.)
