Trans activist hailed by Trudeau Liberals slammed for J.K. Rowling post​

A Canadian transgender activist once lauded by the Justin Trudeau government has sparked outrage for making what many perceived as a veiled threat against J.K. Rowling.

Rowling has long been outspoken against those who say that biological women and trans individuals are the same.

Now, Morgane Oger on Monday shared a photo on X of a map that appeared to track Rowling’s yacht off the coast of Vancouver Island.

Oger, a former B.C. NDP candidate who became the first trans woman to run for a major political party in Canada, invited the author to have a “chit chat” — with many believing her intentions were nefarious.

“Billionaire boating bigots prefer trans-inclusive vacationing spots such as British Columbia. Am I right, J.K. Rowling?” Oger asked sarcastically on X.

“Enjoy our hospitable province, don’t forget to tip, but maybe don’t stay too long,” Oger continued.

“Stop by English Bay and come for drinks or a bbq if you’d like a chit chat between just us yachties.”

However, many condemned Oger for the post. “This is stalker behaviour. Leave her alone,” one user wrote.

Another misgendered Oger as a “sad little man” while calling her actions “beyond creepy.”

A third person noted: “I’m sure giving someone’s location online is illegal,” and tagged X boss Elon Musk.

In a follow-up post on Tuesday, Oger appeared to update Rowling’s yacht’s location, while asking Canada Border Services Agency to kick the Harry Potter creator out of the country.

“No bigots in Canada. Especially those who ignore dinner invitations (from me),” Oger wrote.

While Oger has garnered criticism over the years, Canada’s leaders have praised her.

In 2023, Oger was recognized by Gov.-Gen. Mary Simon for her work advocating for LGBTQ rights and received the Meritorious Service Medal for her work on transgender rights and advancing the legal protections of trans Canadians.

“Her courage, vision and perseverance have helped redefine the fundamental issue of equality and have advanced inclusiveness for gender-diverse Canadians,” the award citation stated.

In 2019, Oger spearheaded a successful campaign to strip the Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter of city funding after it refused to admit transgender women.

The shelter, which helps female victims of male violence, argued that it could not adequately support those who hadn’t experienced life as girls and women, but city council voted to pull its $34,000 grant unless the shelter changed its policy.

The shelter was targeted with vandalism, including “KILL TERFS, Trans Power” scrawled on its windows, and a dead rat nailed to the door.

Oger denounced the attacks as regrettable, but blamed the shelter for provoking them.

The shelter slammed Oger’s campaign as “discrimination against women in the name of inclusion,” and warned the city it was attempting to coerce them into abandoning core principles.

As for her post about Rowling’s yacht, the For Women Scotland account pointed out, “JKR is a woman who funded a rape crisis centre. Oger is a man who defunded one.”

Rowling has not publicly responded to Oger’s post.

Update: Oger is apparently living on a boat on the Sunshine Coast. Probably not at the native-owned marina that had to sue him for hundreds of thousands in unpaid rent.

He's malding about the City of Vancouver hosting a Harry Potter themed Halloween installation in Stanley Park for kids.
