Haven't started hunting proper yet but MHGU already has my goodwill with "well hello there, that's your hut, that's the mission wench, off you go!"

World Babies don't give 2 shits about the integrity of the aesthetic of the series. The Palico companion could be thrown out tomorrow and they wouldn't complain, probably defend it too.
The hub and canteen should have been in the game day one. I have a feeling that this game has a lot of scope creep and they rushed the game, or the devs got a huge earful from their Japanese player base to make them give a fuck.
In fairness, palico didn't exist until either portable 2nd or freedom unite (portable 2nd G). I only played freedom unite, not the high rank only version, so I don't know with absolute certainty. I'm genuinely curious though how the fuck wilds is releasing in this state. World had a rough development that crapcum tries to gloss over at every chance they get, but even slightly reading between the lines and it's clear that this version of MT Framework they used for world to push graphics had a lot of trouble importing skeletons and rigs, leading to a paltry variety of monsters. Not only that, but over a year of dev time was spent (wasted) on everyone's favorite, Zorah Magdaros, and the collab dlcs were VERY last minute and rushed, with work on leshen and behemoth starting after every single iceborne monster was already in production and likely near finished. This is why in datamines of world, there are fucktons of monsters that are in the files, but not properly added until iceborne. Alatreon was intended for base world at first, and Safi was actually created before Xeno.

For comparison, wilds would have started the first stages of development pretty close to iceborne's launch, shifting into full gear in October 2020, after the final iceborne title update. Sure, commie coof and all, but that isn't the most compelling explanation for a game releasing in 2025, especially when rise was FAR more heavily impacted by the coof and launched with 37 monsters. Given rise released less than 6 months after iceborne's final update and wilds is releasing 21 months after sunbreak's final update, I can definitely buy that the coof delayed the game by a year or more, but if it was delayed by that long then a japanese game (japan had far less severe covid impacts compared to what would happen at a western developer) shouldn't really be feeling effects from it other than the delay itself, especially since full steam ahead development wouldn't have gotten underway until October 2020, well past the intial hump. The engine runs open world slop like shit, just look at dd2, but I fail to see how it would significantly impact development. So why is it even more bare than world?

GU is a real fan’s dream. The fact you can choose a village from each previous game is pure fanservice (Pokke has the best theme).

>no gathering hub from launch
>retards insisting this is actually a good thing in the replies because "uh ackshually it's for plot reasons chud!"
I reiterate, World-niggers must be smacked with a broomhandle!
The gathering hub was always a place to show off your set to the other players and so silly dances. Since skills are such an afterthought, there won’t be any of the former, and I shudder to think what kind of gay, melanated, fortnite emotes they added this time

Look, I know portable 3rd outsold tri and 3u combined, and all the moga characters still appear, mainly in yukumo, and I can even make the guild sweetheart my maid. But there will never be another village as comfy as moga at night.

I actually think tri/3U is the most artistically “whole” entry in the series. It definitely stands apart from the rest of the series. It’s telling it wasn’t included in the “greatest hits” as it was their “classic album” that’s indivisible to it’s parts.

I also loved underwater combat, fighting Caedeus to this absolutely epic tune felt so climactic.

You don't understand they NEED the ficus plant in the corner of village to have 1mil polys, okay?!
Devs don't have to make quality meshes anymore and it shows.
How else can Troony McGameDev justify hiring his 100 friends recently laid off from BigStudio?

Caedeus's theme has a tremendous soul. The vocals hit with a chill. I just love that moment in the game.

I'd say 3U & 4U are my favorite games in the series. I love GU, but I just like the others a tad more. I was listening to both their sound tracks today, Ancestral Stepp's general hunting music is soo good.

I still need to get to Tri, thinking about doing FU and Tri this year at some point, apparently they have private servers for Tri working in Dolphin.

Well, I dug up the link I originally found it on, but it was 404'd, likely struck by crapcum, but I found someone posting it again and saved it this time.
tempered xu wu.mp4
I don't want to say this definitively, since I haven't found the source of this to verify it 100%, but the person who I found it from this time said the person is in low rank armor, yet taking less than a quarter from this endgame monster every attack.
Impeccable, really. Please wait a year and fork over another 70$ for the any semblance of difficulty.

It certainly isn't perfect, and I wish 3U had been a bit more tri and less p3rd, but it was borderline a soft reboot of the franchise that rebuilt nearly everything from scratch and laid the groundwork for what 80% who joined before world would consider the golden age of the franchise. No monster hunter since has had the level of soul and atmosphere that tri did, not even iceborne. It felt good to see this ramshackle village and farm you arrived to slowly rebuild and build back even more impressive. Despite having only 18 monsters (15 and low rank only if you didn't have wifi), there was more variety to the fights than all of world had.

It also was notable for having proto-Switch style console/handheld hybrid ability, with the ability to transfer your character from Wii U to 3DS (using a separate program lol) and was the culmination of the concept of ad-hoc local wireless play, with the option of hunting on Wii U with 3 other people on 3DS’s. Very ahead of it’s time.

That's 3u, not tri.

Thank Fatty there is Citra. My fingers are saved playing through this again.
112 hours to go through Low/High Rank, HR3 hub, and some grinding for gear.

Monster Hunter is only FOMO if you have a group of friends to play with and this one is the first cross platform game as well. Personally despite me being able to be play with my friends who have PS5s I still have no desire to buy it because it will most likely melt my computer and all the bad news coming out daily.
I remember Rise dropping with the traditionally separated path for solo and co-op. A friend said they'd beat the story and then play the co-op with me. 2 workdays later they had beaten both. THE most co-opable game format in existence and still it's a hell to get to play with anyone outside matchmaking, in which nobody speaks and you never see the same person twice.

I main HH but always end up moving away from it because I don't play with other people, or the buffs aren't gamechanging enough that I feel like people will be all "Yay a HH, now we get earplugs and no tremors" or the whole "literally remove rot from the game as a mechanic". I do enjoy the simplicity of lance but in co-op you just run around chasing a monster that won't look at you, but I guess that won't matter.

I also like the safari fantasy behind HBG, but they're always wonky as shit until you reach late-game and then build the same gun as everyone else, but at least it makes you engage more with the game and its crafting.. Hm. One good thing about growing old and jaded is that I'm not racing to get to play this game, so I can take my time exploring it all. Still, I don't see why people are raging so hard about whether or not the game is easy. There's one new MH game every what, 5 years? If you're not buying games cause you're busy simulating shit, surely even the most broke MH-only mofo can afford Wilds.

Game launches like these remind me how much I've grown away from being pissed about every little thing. :)

Game hasn't even been out an hour on Steam and it's already close to cracking the million player mark. It's amazing what not actively antagonizing and chiding your customer base can do for a game's success.

The bigger question is whether it melted any normie's PC yet.

Nah, it is because it is a monster hunter.
The game could have mandatory gay sex scenes before each hunt, and it would still sell a metric fuck ton, but still, almost a million on Steam alone is a LOT, and the primary platform people tend to play on is Consoles.
