Alright which one of you fuckers owns this channel, lol

The story in general just sucks so bad. Shut the fuck UP!
Why can’t we just hunt monsters and get on with it? I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea. They don’t even have redeemable characters to justify this choice. I thought nothing could be worse than rampages in MHR.

I was wrong, Satan is always busy.(:_(
The story and in particular the way it was presented is indefensible. Do it like rise where you have a couple dialogue boxes you can mash through and a cool cutscene for the monsters and that’s it. Given that no one liked it (even the intended Soyny audience) I hope they learn their lesson and never ever try to do it again. Also, there are definitely some dev ideas which we can say have objectively failed (seamless zone connections are pointless and never used, Herds barely exist, the “Hunt spontaneously and immersively” idea has largely been dropped by the endgame updates). I don’t necessarily think such ideas would be impossible to implement but the MH team is not able to. I imagine, like rampages, they’ll swallow their pride and move onto other stuff when the DLC comes around. I guess having seamless area hubs is fine moving forward (though if it has a significant performance/dev time cost they should go back to the way it was before).

i didn't really care for rise/sunbreak's story (though it was just inoffensive and something to get you from monster to monster rather than per se bad) but i actually really liked character writing. i can't name a single character from world/iceborne or wilds that i liked, but i liked pretty much the entire cast from rise/sunbreak. the characters actually had.... character

Yeah, I don’t get why they hyped this up either. In Rise you could just go on expeditions and hunt until you were ready to go back. They even had the monsters fight and the wyvern riding so you could get involved.

I guess it’s nice not to need to go through a menu to go out and hunt, but it’s not the grand immersive feature they were claiming.

I’ll say there are things I like. I like being able to have two weapons because it gives me an easier time to learn some weapons beyond the LBG. I usually only do that mid game in other MHs.

I like the mount being able to run up surfaces, though the bird sucks in every other way compared to the Palimute.

I like getting to set up subcamps myself instead having to do busywork and unlock them.

But ultimately, I still have to suffer a great deal of annoying things to even get to these features.

Every update has felt like some attempt to course correct, but none of them actually play into what the vision of the game was supposed to be. Now it's in this weird limbo state where it's trying to cater to the people who are in it for the exploration/ecosystems and the people who are in it for the typical Monster Hunter experience, but it doesn't do either of them particularly well. Now it's at the stage where people are holding out for an expansion to somehow tie everything together, but no title update or expansion is ever gonna change how unfocused the vision for Wilds is.

Speaking of Git Crunked, one of his more recent videos talks about the "Alatreon review bombing."
Never heard of this review bombing, TL;DW the "review bombing" was fabricated by monster hunter "influencers" and has probably caused untold damage to both the MH community (endless arguments and gaslighting about MH's difficulty) and potentially even the future of MH games themselves.
Wilds was fuckass easy, even the Tempered monsters are fairly easy to anyone not brain damaged (according to several people I spoke to who played since at least Dos, again I won't touch this shit for many reasons) and you probably need to see a doctor if you think otherwise. This controversy based on a non-existent review bombing may have caused Capcom to shift their focus from making engaging and challenging gameplay to railroading story nonsense where toddler would barely break a sweat. Seriously, the controversy surrounding the supposed review bombing was bigger than the review bombing.
A misunderstanding turned into a lie which may have turned Monster Hunter into the whatever the fuck it is now. Or maybe just the new world "spin-offs" (World, Wilds, even I doubt they'll stop making more traditional MH considering they made Risebreak after the massive success that was World). It also makes...way too much sense since the people pushing the idea that MH was review bombed due to Alatreon...are all Wilds shills. Really makes you think.

So ive pretty much done most of whats available in Rise/Sunbreak, and i still crave me some MH... Was thinking of getting Wilds, but judging by this and it's own thread, it might be better to get another title... Which should i go for? World?

Was also considering emulating the very first game on PS2 to see how it all began, does it hold up today?

If by some miracle you manage to get a copy of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, definitely give it a go. It's the tightest controling of the classic era, while still being a challenging game.

isn't it readily available on switch? even if not the switch and 3ds roms are readily available to pirate and emulate

I got around to playing Wilds with friends over the months, and it really made me miss the atmosphere MH games had before the 5th gen.

MH games before World basically established mankind as the lowest things in the pecking order, and kept on reminding you of that every time you got your neck out on hunting grounds tracking down monsters. It forced observation, item management, and thinking on your end to avoid getting owned by even the lamest of large monsters, and this was reflected in how every population center in those games were either set in areas monsters actively avoided, or were guarded with mankind's finest. It all gave you perspective, especially when you started going into areas where the strongest monsters resided, which usually were remnants of more advanced civilizations. You sort of understood why despite creating entire towers out of motherfucking Kushala Daora, we got owned back to the stone age. It showed more than it told, and it's half of the reason why I found Freedom Unite fascinating as hell when I was a kid: you earned your stripes through expertise and planning. That, and avoiding Plesioth quests whenever possible.

World already chipped away at that atmosphere by adding way too much unskippable yapping, MC glaze, boring item meta, and monster tracking, but at least your moveset started to be on par with the monsters you were fighting by the time you reached Iceborne. Wilds just straight-up gave you standard kit and move-sets that basically make you invincible even against monsters able to nuke entire arenas no matter the weapon you're using (and with very lenient timing when it comes to using them, too). The power fantasy is kinda lost when you start off bullshit strong and able to literally and metaphorically auto-pilot your way through every monster in the game right off the bat, while every character in the games just endlessly glaze you for it from start to finish. The game's fun (when my friends aren't randomly crashing), but it's not MH.

That, and lottery grinding is lazy as fuck and basically everywhere once you hit late game. My boy Gogmazios deserved better :(.

World is a safe bet if you're coming from Rise. If you wanted to play an older title, I still think MH4U is the peak of the series, but Generations Ultimate is good too. There's also mods the unlock the 30 FPS cap to 60+ if you're looking to emulate.

4U has an uncapped frame rate and runs decent enough if you have a New 3DS model, but you can emulate that too.

Sorry for another reply but if you're coming from Rise just play World/Iceborne. Play Iceborne Community Edition (ICE) if you want to fix annoying problems/balancing, but there's less players for multiplayer if that bothers you.

Pre-World is very different and you may not like it; the further back you go with the old games, the less conveniences it'll have. Each gen has games from two different dev teams, the definitive versions of each game are, from most to least recent:
  • 4th Gen: GU, 4U
  • 3rd Gen: P3rd, Tri/3U (debatable lol)
  • 2nd Gen: FU, Dos
  • 1st Gen: MHG (Wii)
Everyone has their favorites but all of them have something to offer. Use emulation for all of them, except maybe GU. You can ask for an ideal setup for whichever one you play.

World/Iceborne is really damn good and I would definitely recommend it over the Wilds. My only major grievance with Iceborn is the clutch claw and the wounding mechanic, but it's not something you can't live with. Iceborne actually has some stuff I wish they would have carried over to Rise/Wilds like decorating your own room and catching endemic life to display in your room.
If you want to go for the older games, like people have already said Generations Ultimate for Switch is really good choice. It has absolutely tons of content and it doesn't feel too "dated".

New Stories 3 trailers:
Animated trailer, no gameplay. Damn I wouldn't mind an actual MH animation like this. After that disaster of a movie however...
>Launch trailer
>Not actually launched
>No real gameplay

Also how in the world did Rathalos go extinct? Also holy shit Yama Tsukami is back after how many years? In terms of mainline titles that's nearly 2 decades, but since Stories is a spin-off...maybe a decade depending on when he came out in MHO and MHFR. And human on human conflict sure is refreshing, all high sentient (Humans, Wyverians, etc.) life being on friendly term with eachother with little to no clashing in the mainline games no matter their culture is...well I just assumed they worked it all out well beforehand. Don't mind it, but it's interesting to conflict like that.

Theres a free demo you can play right now. It was pretty good but not $107 good.
There is no game that is worth more than $30. $60 if you're willing to lower your standards.

Rise your first MH? Emulate the older games, though World is a fine choice with Iceborne. Might be worth checking out the Community Edition as well if you go for the latter.

Hurrah for regional pricing. the last game i bought full price at $60 was Diablo 2 remaster on steam. Outside of amerimutts most countries get fucked on pricing.
Steam attempted to do something about regional pricing but it was either minimal to the point of nonexistence or the powers that be thwarted that attempt and regional pricing remains dogshit. Considering how much power payment processors have and how they're willing to swing their dicks around for any little thing they disagree on, both are fairly possible.
And they wonder why piracy is such a big thing in third world countries, it's always a service issue.

When this actually happened it was Old Heads heads using it as proof that the World babies couldn't handle OG MonHun. "OG" being 3G or 4U/Generations of course.
Then Sunbreak came out and people claimed anyone who didnt like it were the same people who review bombed Alatreon. Rise was mildly hated on by retards who thought it was gonna be World 2,
Then Wilds came out and any criticism at all was equated to the types responsible for this made up review bomb. Nebulous, nonexistent trollish Old Heads who just hate fun or some gay shit.

Either way it's been going on years before Wilds was a thing. And when the next MH game comes out, people will still point to Alatreon over some made up bullshit for that game.

I will say that the difference between base World and Iceborn is still pretty silly. Base World just feels so much nicer and comfy to play through because the monsters in Low and High rank aren't designed with the clutch claw in mind.

Humanity thrives so goddamn hard there's a Guild set up specifically to keep people from hunting monsters willy nilly to extinction, and this has been the case since the very first game. They even have executioners who hunt rogue hunters/poachers. We've been murdering Elder Dragons since day one. FATALIS is literally the final boss of the Hub in MH1. I really don't know where you pulled this from.
