Frankly if they have those sorts of things, I just don't use the website (unless it's so poorly made it gets disabled by Ublock's element zapper).
Imagine if Xenforo signs a deal with an advertisement company to permanently enable it though. So if you upgrade to the next version of their forum you cannot disable the ad-block detection systems as they are built into the platform. It's becoming harder and harder to block elements of sites that are in those shadow layers as well. Things like the element picker (which isn't even properly implemented in the manifest version 3 of ublock) are often unable to interact with them as well.

The modern internet, and operating systems and computers in general (including game consoles), are all such shit.

Sometimes it is so easy to download a pic that the pic is automatically downloaded whether you like it or not. Other times the pic cannot be viewed by itself, right-click is disabled, and trying to download the pic does not work because of some "blank referrer blocking" or the like. Or the pic is a "WEBP" disguised as some other file format. BS.

I turned caching off, and yet Firefox is still writing gigabytes of data a day to the drive.

WTF is it writing and is there any way to turn that crap off? (and I use uBlock Origin too).
Create a RAM disk and relocate the browser cache there. It's very easy using a RAM disk software and the SoftPerfect Cache Relocator, but can be also done using the native mklink command-line tool.

Not a cache thing, it's this database made by Google that is part of the browser's resource files it uses to run.

Anyway thanks for the tip. Useful if I need to resort to using "Google Chrome", where caching cannot be disabled.

Has anybody else noticed that Youtubers and
articles even when it appears they are making genuine content are starting to overuse AI speech patterns without even realizing it? ("It's not X ー it's Y")

I think we are trapped within a death spiral.

AI aggregates web content to use for its answers -> AI becomes better than humans for SEO -> AI generated content propagates back to the very same AI systems -> AI regurgitates content but it is now 1488% more likely to condense it into a paragraph instead or generated articles that spend 20 fucking paragraphs on how to mute terminal bell sounds -> Everybody uses AI for everything -> AI speak bleeds into humans -> Everything talks like ChatGPT.

We're so fucked, we are living in the beggining phases of the second dark ages.

The next meaningful step on the internet should be to segregate people vs those who post using AI. I'm not here to read a statistical probability of words, I want people's thoughts and creations.
We can start giving our AI atrophied gents their own water fountains, bathrooms and put them at the back of buses while we're at it. They're insufferable in real life too. They bring shit up like political news in conversations and have no self thinking left, everything they say is just the most surface level summary stripped of any opinions and I'm just looking for an excuse to end the conversation. I know NPCs have always existed but now everything is so much worse.

These YouTubers are reading from a script that is written or rewritten by an A.I. application on their phones. This is why they all sound the same. No different than news organizations all using the same copy or same style. Where kikes at the Associated Press force everyone to capitalize 'Black' but not 'white' when referring to someone. Or forcing everyone to use zer/zhey/faggot pronouns as if those are legitimate English words. It's such a disgusting and unnatural way to speak. And sickening to listen to. I just walk away from people using NPC speak.

It's like this in universities now. Every single paper written by college students sounds the same. They are all clearly using A.I. to write their reports and the professors are probably using A.I. to grade them all. Every supposedly top school including the 'ivy leagues' aka the Epstein leagues are nothing more than diploma mills. There is nothing academic about these schools. They are just churning out graduates through the slop schools.

ICYMI (unlikely)
The "European Parliamentary Research Service" (whatever that means) has xeeted (archive) about Age Verification.

tl;dr They figured out that VPNs may work to circumvent their age verification checks. They also found that users will not go to websites that ask them to do age verification (i.e. Pornhub) but rather opt for the sex trafficking version of Pornhub that has no age verification because they're already engaged in other illegal activity. Shocking news for all.
Anyways, their idea is to do age verification for VPNs as well. I wonder what totally legitimate VPNs people will put all their Internet traffic through when they google "Best free VPN no age verification" in 2027.
Suffah yuros.

They are going to end up doing what they did with the torrent sites and/or there will be new tech created to get around this. There are already Tor, I2P and other decentralised networks e.g. SimpleX apparently is a networking protocol as well as a chat app. People are creating new stuff all the time.

In the UK they already have an adult filter at the ISP level that you have to prove how old you are, before the OSA was a thing. I was using the net at my parents house and tried to visit here, it was blocked by the ISP as adult content. The ISP already had a content filter for children and all parents needed to do is not turn it off.

YT and Google really want you to watch the ads and read the "answers"... but for what purpose? And why is it that there is suddenly such a big push that wasn't there before?

They are Indian. They have every dark triad trait and have very low IQs.

It's about converting the entire world into a Poojeet slave society. I'm not even being sarcastic. Transgenders are Indian Hydras. All the Indian gods have giant heads like the Rothschilds.

What site was that on? Also, there's an A&H thread on that bullshit.

The agentic web — where autonomous AI agents reason, plan, and execute complex transactions using the open web and industry standard protocols — aims to create an autonomous customer experience. While these agents can significantly enhance online interactions, they also introduce new abuse and fraud vectors, creating unique challenges for security platforms.

The way I see it the situation at the Internet is essentially the virtual counterpart to the Aral Sea ecosystem collapse/Anthrax Island catastrophe.

For context the Soviets didn't just drain the lake for cotton, they also turned the water into waste water with all sorts of poisons in the process, covered it with anthrax and single-handedly instigated a mass extinction event. Granted the Soviets and the United Nations are very loosely related and their take on nature is the exact opposite, but they are still elites of two sides of the same coin.

The Internet has lost approximately 90% of its content following the Obama-ICANN sellout or has made them virtually inaccessible through search algorithm manipulation and LLMs.

And unlike the Aral Sea collapse, a full-blown Internet and IT business collapse in the hands of Wokies, Jeets, AI and Real ID Internet/OS will affect everyone globally and render them nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. Perhaps 30 years later following the complete collapse of the Internet's ecosystem, it will be ingrained into people's knowledge that America and Europe is always ruled over by Arabic Caliphates, the United Nations are heroes and saints and the Japanese always lived in Iraq.
All podcast are identical to mainstream news now. We have gone though the "it's cool try it", to the "It's really convenient, you must comply and use it", and now we're at "You're locked in there is no alternative; status quo" phase with the Internet. There was video on demand back in 2006 and now the Internet is that but with social media so you can have feed back systems that detect dissident ideas and guide people to always being trapped in the virtual reality censorship cave that Plato and Socrates gayly fantasised about over 2000 years ago.
When I first starting taking my professional education webinars, one covering cybersecurity made it a point to repeat the line, "Use a VPN!" all throughout.

In practice, however, my experiences are similar to both @Lonjil 's and @Pork Wellington 's. I can't access Office Depot or other assorted commercial sites. Logging into my bank is a crapshoot - I'll either be disallowed or be able to log in and it's 50-50 I might be unable to do anything else after logging in. And YouTube more times than not won't even let me listen any videos now if I'm on a VPN.

While I might understand why banks might be suspicious of VPN IP addresses, I also feel as if commercial sites want everyone unmasked so they can market useful demographics to the assorted online data-miners.
I suspect that this has to do with Indians being the web admins for the sites; most sites. In India VPNs are illegal and Indians are strangely nationalistic if only for the aesthetic. They must comply with their country's laws even outside of their country.
