Really poor fight from Diego...

It's cool to see Volk win... but this fight was kinda shit, Volk circled around, did his thing, Lopes never committed to one of his blitz, I don't know what he was expecting if this was just a repeat of the first fight if not worse and then there was that crappy scrap at the end when Lopes needed a K.O.

And for all Fight IQ praise we give to Volk, doesn't change the fact that most of the fight was him just circling around. If people give the dagestanis shit for that, then so should Volk.

Waste of time on a card with very few good fights. I hope Volk fights yet again this year.

All in a all, a 5/10 card, hope the Max V Charles brings the heat.

it's difficult to engage with someone who constantly moves around and counter punches

It certainly is, but people have it done before, and Lopes himself did on their first fight.

Lopes had a whole year to learn hot to cut Volk's movement, because that was what he did on their first fight.

Still, if this is how Volk is going to fight from now on, then I'm skipping after R3, it may not be as mind numbing like Chimaev Vs DDP, but the Volk I like wasn't a counter puncher prancing around the octagon.

Hope Fiziev liked the taste of his own words. Holy crap!

By far his most boring title fight. Shades of old man Pitbull in Bellator walking guys into counters and getting a slow pace. But then do you blame the 37 year old man, or the young man with all the physical attributes who lost last time.

Dunno about "blame", because I obviously understand Volk's side here and why he fought the way he did.

But regardless, and speaking for my self, I don't like point fighters in MMA, period. Be jab merchants or wrestlefuckers.

Again, I get why Volk fought the way he did, and we can glaze his footwork till we run out of saliva, doesn't change the fact that I was bored.

"Oh but it is Lopes job to seek the K.O, he is the young contender". Yeah, but Volk was the one making it boring. People gave Izzy shit for the same thing.

And while I don't expect Volk, or anyone really, to fight solely for entertainment, don't expect me to get all impressed by a "dominant" performance when all we saw was point punching.

This may be a bit old school from me, since I'm from the old Pride days, but MMA will always be a blood sport to me.

I don't need every fight to be a dumb brawl like the Paddy v Justin we just had, but I do want to see some killer instinct here.

The Ruffy V Fiziev fight was a rather slow and technical fight, but you could tell both guys were looking for that finish, and Ruffy got his sniper shot he was timming. That wasn't a dumb brawl, but you could feel the bloodlust from both guys.

That made the fight tense and unpredictable. In contrast, by the end of R2, we knew Volk was going to circle around for the rest of the fight and Lopes doesn't have the skills to cut him off. And that was it.

UFC 325:

Salkilld might have something, but I need to see him against a Top 10 before I decide that he is the hot shit.

Cut Tuivasa and Teixeira, since neither one can make it three full rounds.

Ruffy is going to hit a hard wall between 6-10 that he probably isn't going to be able to get past with his reliance on sniping, especially at 155. I kind of thought he might have a chance of getting to the belt, but he has demonstrated no growth in his losses.

Saint-Denis is going to be a top 5 lightweight, but, if Topuira or Tsarukyan have their respective reign(s) of terror, he has no chance of being champion.

Volkanovski once again out-planned and out-experienced Lopes. Not much more to be said about it than that.

Agreed. All of his fights have been short and sweet. Ready to see him come up.

Cut Tuivasa and Teixeira
Again, agreed. That was an embarrassment, even for a HW fight. Painfully long fight.

… and again. Already spoke briefly on this. Dude has so much potential but he’s afraid to get in there and make a fight dirty. Fiziev was off last night, otherwise that should’ve been a nightmare matchup for Ruffy. Either way, entertaining fight. Fiziev’s durability and flight instincts are incredible. Dude got knocked out on his feet twice and still almost managed to survive the round.

Saint-Denis is going to be a top 5 lightweight
When he’s on, he’s on. He really wants to make up for that battering Moicano gave him at home. He’s on a hot streak, but his best win has been his fight with Ruffy where he managed to fully expose him.

He’s one of the grittiest fighters on the roster and has the polar opposite issue that Ruffy has. He’s very eager to make the fight dirty. Ilia punishes him badly, but I’d wager he’d give Arman a run for his money for a bit before he gasses out.

Volkanovski once again out-planned and out-experienced Lopes. Not much more to be said about it than that.
Again, no clue what Lopes and his camp prepared for here. Textbook Volk, Lopes did very little to impress. The most I can say in respect to Lopes is that he didn’t allow himself to get 10-8’d this time around, and he had broken both feet during the bout.

Would’ve been a good swan song for Volk to call it after that win. Not sure what comes next for him.

As far as I can tell, he brought in the southpaw look and kicks to stop Volk circling to his left, which is what he did the first fight, and then Volk just circled to his right and he was completely lost there, because bringing in one trick is a band aid for him and the rest of his team (Grasso, Aldana) having no idea how to cut the cage with footwork. And then he seemed to not want to take too much damage like he did in the first fight where traded his chin to try and take chances, when that was the only way he was going to win, not a long ranged technical fight where he has to use footwork.

Bad plan overall.

Ruffy has shown no evolution as a fighter, even when he needs to. There are numerous guys at 155 who either do what he does, but better, or can shut his offense down.

Fizzy was one of my picks to be the next generation of 155 but at this point I think he needs to hang it up.

Saint-Denis gained more than he lost from his 2024 run. Moicano and Poirier gave him that taste of high level competition under the hot lights and he has adjusted accordingly.

Team Grasso should have let Evloev or Murphy have the next shot, either to have a better chance against a new champ, or to get more on a weakness or injury in Uncle Volk.

The young guys want their shot, or they want a chance to take on a legend before he's completely done (Lerone Murphy's position, he just wants to say he fought the best FW in history).

Man, to think I once put so much faith in Fiziev at one point... *sigh*. I used to think Fiziev, Gamrot and Arman would be the new guard, but so far only Arman proved to be of a high enough level. And he is the only guy I can see having a chance against Ilia, an even then I don't think he beats him (or does anyone else at LW for that matter).

Ruffy is a fraud. I bet they will give him Beneil, Hooker or Chandler for an easy win next. I think Moicano finishes him, although he is hittable. Paddy, if he actually turns him brain on and gets the takedown would make easy work of him, and Arman would do unspeakable things to him. The most beatable grappler left is Gamrot since he gets rocked a lot, but with how absolutely atrocious his wrestling defense was, I would not be surprised if he got outworked for five rounds.

Heavyweights have not evolved in the slightest for the last decade or so. They still are fat, have no gas tank and rely solely on one big power punch to end the fight.

I honestly would not be upset if they just gave Movsar the shot tbh. Or Murphy. At least give us a proper no.1 contenders fight for the FW belt if you're hesitant. Please, UFC, I'm begging you!

If anything they have devolved. Used to have better ones 10 years ago. Stipe, Cain, Werdum, Hunt, JDS, Nog. Even someone as meme as Big Country wouldn’t look out of place in the top 15 of today’s heavyweight.
