It''s ridiculous that Pereira has just been dethroned over a week ago, Aspinall has cleared out HW and Jones is still just silently holding the belt all while the UFC lets the division rot. And we have Islam salivating at the thought of JDM winning, just waiting to see what happens so he can move up ASAP. He took no damage against Moicano and Ilia has had plenty of time to recover, while Gathje just went through the meatgrinder, so there's no reason for a hold up.

Two of the biggest fights the UFC could make rn and neither seem likely. This feels just like boxing. If both fights fall through, 2025 might be one of the worst years in UFC history (at least the worst since I've become a fan).

The only bright side to this is that a loss will force O'Malley into the Joe-B zone where he'll never be near a title shot for as long as Merab holds the belt (forever). Waste of a fight but the Petr/Merab rematch didn't seem much more compelling even though Yan is far more deserving on the basis of actually coming off 2 wins.

There's not much for Merab right now at 135.

You could, but Dana already shot that down hard even though both guys want it and are in a similar spot as champs. Champ vs Champ for guys who cleared out their division and only have rematches to look forward to for the most part? No, it makes too much sense.

Remember when Michel Pereira did a funny little dance before annihilating some can and Dana got pissy about it? He's simultaneously always looking for another Conor while doing everything possible to prevent fighters from a getting too big to control.
 
i was about to post "only kevin holland can look so impressive in the first round of a fight until he gets taken to the ground" after almost getting subbed but I liked this fight the most out of every one on the card so far
