From peak hype train to peak cringe. UFC can just pretend nothing happend and still make Chimaev vs Leon if Usman decides to take some rest, but still a completly meh stituation. Gotta wonder if Chimaev can stay in WW. He looks lean even with that extra 7.5 lbs.

I have no complaint about Ferg vs Diaz though (if it actually happens).

THE SHOW MUST GO ON

!!!Diaz vs Ferguson!!!.jpg

Kek UFC 279 presser cancelled after a shitshow broke out backstage:

Dana must be shitting bricks about the same thing happening at the weigh-ins/face offs.
Dana loves the press when fighters behave like retards, as it sells the fights for him. If he could get away with WWE style rigging of fights he would do it in a heartbeat.

Diaz vs Ferguson is way more exciting than Diaz vs Chimaev, which was a worthless matchup for both guys. Chimaev vs Holland on the other hand is not that interesting to me either outside of seeing more Chimaev.

So Volk is the official backup at 280, that's pretty neat. I'm pretty hyped for the card except for the time it's at. Also Meta Zuckerberg dipping his toes into UFC lol.
I had already known about Zucker's interest into MMA before he had rented out the UFC Apex but, I didn't expect him to actually put Meta directly into the MMA business. I really hope he doesn't buy stock into the UFC's parent company. We already have to deal with the dipshit Disney executive's stupid rules.

As a filthy Euro, I am quite pleased at not having to fetch my illegal stream at a stupid hour for a PPV for once.

So who do we have? Crossing fingers for a Oliveira win so that superfight with Volk becomes real. Have Sterling and Yan winning theirs (with some luck that clown O'Malley gets humiliated), hope Gamrot beats Benny.

The time isn't terrible, will probably just end up missing some or all of the prelims.

I like Olives. Can't bring myself to like Aljo after that whole thing with Yan but I also don't really want to cheer for Pilllashaw so that one I'm pretty indifferent to. Definitely want Yan over Sean for sure. Don't really know much about Gamrot so I hope he wins simply because Beneil always reminds me of that h3 idiot for some reason. Regarding prelims I don't want Belal to win bc I'm sick of him and I'm hoping Yamato wins for more Japanese in UFC.

On a random note, I saw people saying that Buffer likes to say the name Silva the most but I think he really likes to do Dillashaw for some reason. He always puts a lot into that one.

I look at the way Yan was able to solve and tear apart Sandhagen and I'm just not able to see how Sean wins besides a lucky knockout.
I think Sean is seriously underrated in this match-up with Yan. Sean still has a lot to prove but his striking is solid and he does have a sizeable reach advantage over Yan. Sean has shown that he has good effective striking against Chito before the peroneal nerve kick.

Pretty sure if Yan can figure out Sandhagen, he can figure out this clown who looks lost when 5'6 Munhoz switches stance with him and calf kicks him. The dude did so little before the eye poke that he was running around afterwards counting checks (most of which didn't actually check the kick) as offence because he put nothing else out. Like it took 1 round for his creepy coach to politely go "hey dumbass, he's tiny, when he kicks your leg, step in and punch him".

Same card had Riddell-Turner on it with an equally comical reach difference. Turner figured that out instantly, bombing Riddell with a power punch as he calf kicked.

Yeah he could knock Yan out. It just seems very unlikely given what we saw in his recent fights. This fight reads like the UFC telling Sean it's time to sink or swim and then throwing him into the deepest part of the pool.

Problem with O'Malley is he spent the vast majority of his UFC run crushing cans, old/shot fighters, and given stylistic layups. I don't rank his skills highly, but I do think he's an serviceable athlete.

Don't think his lauded striking game is that deep, mainly throwing front kicks, stance switches and standing way out at range. When he has someone hurt he has better ideas to hit the body, but not too much else. At bantamweight there are equally or better athletes than him with a far more functional game.

Do think this is a sink or swim fight for him where they expect him to lose but maybe look good, and then they can bump him up the ranks off a loss and skip him past people who could beat him handily.

Would have liked to see him vs Yadong, who is a better athlete, with a better put together game, has really good boxing punch form, but can't cut the cage well.

Anyone going to watch today? With the Royval/Askarov fight scrapped I'm not so sure I'll make an effort to. The original idea for the card wasn't bad though.

Assuncao putting on a classic pace diffusing performance. Old dog still has it at 40 in the bantamweight division. Still high on Victor Henry, it's just that Assuncao is still that good after a camp change and refocusing to his original style.

Now going to spend the next week trying to will a Oliveira win into existence.

Who do you got guys?
Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev : I rather be Charles in that match up. Islam is not safe anywhere. It's gonna be taxing for 25 minutes
Charles tko round 4

Aljamain Sterling (c
) vs. T.J. Dillashaw : I have no idea how Tj will look and perfrom in that match up. I gotta take Aljo I think he will manage to get control/lower the pace for 1 round and manage his gas tank.
Aljo by dec

Petr Yan
vs. Sean O’Malley : Yan is better everywhere and beat a better Sean o Malley in Sandhagen. No reason to pick Sean
Yan by tko round 3

Beneil Dariush vs. Mateusz Gamrot : I don't think Beneil is a top fighter. He's getting old and single leg guy is more athletic
Gamrot by dec

Belal Muhammad
vs. Sean Brady : You gotta go with Belal. I trust him to counter wrestle and have some nice striking exchanges at the end
Belal by dec

Nikita Krylov vs. Volkan Oezdemir : I think Volkan can outstrike and sprawl on Krylov
Volkan by dec
