A bit late on that but last 2 fight nights card had 0 casual appeal and were geared towards hardcore.

I loved it but I am not sure if they did that on purpose.

He really is Anderson Silva 2.0, and we are in the shit years of the Silva title reign, the ones where he does nothing. He's very quickly become my least favourite champion. Talks massive shit and has this flash persona, including gay entrances, then outpoints them with pokes.

His teammate and arguably the best MMA fighter on the planet, Volkanovski, doesn't do that. Even when he has a gimme like Korean Zombie, he goes out of his way to utterly fuck his opponent up. Both are clear wins, but one is inspiring and makes you go "that guy is a monster", and the other is uninspired and shoots his popularity in the foot.

Best fighter on the planet right now. Knowing the UFC, they will still give it to Usman, who is skill for skill a joke because of reasons. Round 5 for Volk according to stats - 50 significant strikes. Max? 19. He made THE volume puncher have less than double his output in his best round.

Edit: Don't even think Max was off tonight, but I do think he came in preparing for leg kicks (makes sense, he kicked the shit out of Max's legs the last 2 fights) and was completely caught off guard by the boxing. If you look at him in round 1, it was a lot of teeps, lifting his lead leg to float behind it and close distance, ready to check etc. If he and his team thought his boxing from the KZ fight was due to KZ being shot, it was not, it's way better than it was in their previous fights. This 5'5 manlet not only outboxed Holloway in the pocket, he spent a lot of the fight with his hands down, and was barely touched hard.

On another note, O'Malley got exposed. Leg kicks, switching stances every time he does and not running at him just gelds him of any effectiveness. This dude is not as slick or as deep of a striker as people think he is, especially for a guy 9-10 fights into his UFC career. If you want to have a laugh, go to twitter or youtube and read the pure cope from O'Malley fans on Munhoz getting eye poked. They can be summed up as.
  • He wanted out - He was winning the fight on the judges cards.
  • He was scared of O'Malley - The man who fought several former and current champions in wars isn't going to be scared of some rainbow haired fag.
  • O'Malley was checking all of the low kicks - No he wasn't, and if he was checking every kick, he wasn't using those checks to lead into anything. If you can consistently check leg kicks and you have a massive height and reach advantage, you should just be tooling up the opponent with jabs and straights.
  • Munhoz landed no punches to the head - Doesn't matter, he did more than enough to win that first round.
That's twice now they gave him a step up in competition and he's shat the bed. He's not elite.

Has Dana White declared that takedowns are illegal?

Because there is no earthly reason why an alleged BJJ black belt (Jim Miller) should be trying to trade hands with Donald Cerrone. Yes, it ended in a guillotine, but everything leading up to it was fucking weird.

Also, the middleweight 'champion' came out to a fight with french tips on his fingernails. How the athletic commission let that slide boggles my mind.

You can certainly blame Dana for turning most main card fights into sloppy kickboxing affairs, I think. He just feeds into that meathead mma fan persona and those guys don't want to see a couple of dudes fagging on each other on the ground.

If you want chain grappling, you're better off watching the undercard, Quintet, or check out any match being booked with Roberto Satoshi and Daisuke Nakamura.
 
Just to hammer home how utterly shit Sean O'Malley is, here is similarly long, not as tall, current champ Aljamain Sterling, with his weird funky striking, winning a kickboxing match against Munhoz, simply by using his length, long strikes, good footwork and lots of it. Reminder that Sterling's standup is considered to be the absolute worst area of his game.
Aljo put on a relatively clean performance, with the odd scare here and there, but O'Malley couldn't. When Sterling has a better depth of striking and it's his secondary option to his wrestling/grappling, you know this rainbow haired dickhead is a fraud. How did this fucker and his team not see this fight and try to adapt it in any way? Because he's shit.

Winning the fight as well, just by throwing naked low kicks and switching every single time O'Malley switched. Dude had no viable answer in spite a 7 inch reach advantage and 5 inches of height.
 
The Suga stans are really the most annoying fanbase in MMA. Speaking of tall lanky dudes though, Jalin Turner is really looking spicy.
Also Volk is crazy. I can't really see him struggling against anyone in the weight class.
Not surprised they let Izzy fight with his nails done, remember when they Greg Hardy hit the inhaler on cam between rounds? Lol
