That's crazy, the random amount bet leads me to believe they were just rounding out a number too. I had to stop betting because I found it was affecting how much I enjoyed the sport.

Rewatched parts of this magnificent fight yesterday, what initially I thought was stupid athleticism bailing Jiri out was in part that, but also clear veteran savvy and well drilled techniques. That round 4 escape from what was a locked in arm triangle (a Glover Teixeira specialty) is what you see almost all these guys try and fail.

This is probably one of the rare light heavyweight fights where it is between two really stubborn, near mentally unbreakable fighters. For the vast majority of light-heavyweights, even those guys at the top. Once things really start going south and they get tired, they just break mentally and rarely get back into the fight. Neither guy did that. It was one guy pushing an advantage till he got tired, then the other going "ah, now is my chance", and pushing their advantage till they needed to rest. and repeating until eventually Jiri got ahead into winning position.

I know Glover is 42 and ancient, and I don't know how long this very late prime will last, but looking at the other guys in the division, I think he can be a real problem for a lot of these guys, just on grappling chops and ability to out will most of them alone. At some point he's going to fall off a cliff, and it can happen any time, but until then, he's a problem.

Something really nice imo about Jiri post fight being extremely hard on himself and not at all delusional about how that fight was going. You see it with many fighters who are completely delusional about how they did in the fight, win or lose. I suspect he may very well make some changes to avoid having a fight like that come down to a razors edge.

Jake Matthews' striking style is pretty neat. Love the lead right hands, leaping hooks and fast 1-2's. His footwork is not the most efficient, but overall, Jake is fun to watch. He's like a welterweight Gustafsson

Mostly a backfoot boxing performance as well, which is neat to see. Fialho in comparison seems like he loathed to waste strikes, where every strike must land. He did the bad aggressive counterpunching game of pressuring Matthews to the fence, then just standing there waiting for an opening, and got picked apart. If you are going to be an aggressive counterpuncher, need to throw things to get the opponent to react and then counter the reaction.

so zabit has like officially retired now, I guess to become a doctor maybe. that stings. absolutely loved zabit, the guy was electric, he fought like he was from the future.
I guess he's one of the biggest 'what ifs' in MMA now. what if zabit was healthy and didn't reitre, what if fedor came to the UFC, what if pride never died, etc etc

That was one of the best prelims I've seen in a very long time. Ramos and Silva were highlights, seeing Court Mcgee get knocked out cold hurt. Phil Hawes also looked great on the feet.

This is so far rivalling the London card between Volkov and Aspinall for most finishes/fun in a card. Will have to see how the main card plays out.

Guram being screwed by Herb Dean. This guy needs someone who isn't a massive pain in the ass to fight. Gamrot is a head outside, low single specialist who got Guram to play guard a lot. Then after 2 years off, he gets Damir, who is one of the most technical, most annoying fighters to deal with, and gives the best account compared to all of Damir's opponents.

This guy needs someone who isn't a technical pain in the ass. Give him someone who is going to bang.

That was an awesome card, except the last fight imo. I fell asleep during it but man, the rest of the card. Glad Dana didn't cheap out with the bonuses this time either.

i didn't watch the card, in favour of waking up later and watching the match, that kickboxing super event with the takeru vs tenshin main event. it was okay, but fuck me man it was like 6 or so hours long. i spent my entire sunday watching it, and it was mostly decisions. good fights though, but it was way fucking too long, and the main event was only a 3 rounder :/.
there were some really good fights, but i can't help but think i made the wrong pick, watching this instead of the ufc. if anyone here regrets not watching it: don't worry you didn't miss out on anything super amazing. i've seen ONE put on better kickboxing cards ngl

edit: if anyone could tell me which fights from the fight night card are worth watching replays of, i'll love you forever

Pretty much the entire UFC card is worth a watch. Skip the women's events because they are shit as usual. Spoiler, but most of the card is filled with violent first round finishes. Have some technical fights like Damir Ismagulov vs Guram Kutatiladze and the main event. Just watch both the prelims and main event in one go and skip the women's fights. There are like 9 finishes in the event.

Want to point out that Emmett really let the fight slip away from him in the last two rounds and made it much closer than he could have. He had a lot of success in the first three rounds ripping to Kattar's body, to the point where at the end of round three, he hurts Kattar with a body shot. Kattar plays it off well, but it is noticeable by how his body language changes in those last 30 seconds, and in the corner.

Kattar before the body shot. Got a very active lead hand, he's pumping fakes, his footwork is active, pumping the right hand, and then he gets hit to the body, very close if not on the liver.

Suddenly the footwork isn't all there, he's not pumping the jab, he throws the jab once as this power jab, he suddenly starts looking for elbows where there aren't any without setup, starts doing a bit of posturing with his hands, all tells that the body shot hurt him. Most telling was his response in the corner, where it took him about 5 seconds to answer his corner's question about what was worrying him.

Emmett in rounds four and five forgets about the body for most of those rounds, and it lets Kattar back into the fight. He just goes all head hunting in those last two rounds and basically wasted shots on Kattar's guard. I think if he went downstairs more, he could have pulled away in those later rounds and prevent Kattar from having a last two round resurgence.

The match order was fucking insane, too. On paper, Masahiko Suzuki and Akihiro Kaneko was probably the second most competitive fight on the card and it opened the fucking main card! The Noiri/KAITO fight had a nice little surprise result too, at least.

If you don't regularly watch K-1 or RISE, then you weren't going to get much satisfaction out of this card, especially with the decision to not make the main event five rounds. Glory is still hanging on to most of the top heavyweights and ONE has become the defacto spot for 155-170, especially since Kunlun Fight basically went under. RISE and K-1 have the best guys at 145 and below but most people won't know that if they aren't regularly watching the product.

in retrospect i was real uncharitable in my post. i did rewatch a couple of the fights, and the pace was insane in a lot of them. really technical shit. i think it's one of those rare instances where i'd have enjoyed it a lot more if i watched replays of the fights later on, rather than watching the event live; because the pacing of the event genuinely was a pain. long speeches after many of the fights, 10 minute entrances. it got a bit much.
you make great points though

I totally get that. I used to pull all-nighters for every DREAM and Sengoku card back in the day. The dreaded Japanese intermission has been the death knell to many attention spans, it's fucking rough.

Still think they should have front loaded the card with the brawls and heavyweights. YA-MAN/Ashizawa and Nakamura/Pettas would have been real hot openers.

Wasn't a bad card tonight. Shavkat continues to impress me, I'm all in on hype for him. Missed the main fight, from what I heard it was pretty well matched and very technical.
Main card was fun as hell. All the technical nerds are screaming robbery because thats all that matters to these faggots instead of it being a good fight. Was a very close fight, but Arman started to get tired and get outwrestled in the final 3 rounds, and he visibly looked like he was hating it. Had the better striking between him and Gamrot, but started to look tired and miserable as it went on, while Gamrot played everything off like it was nothing. Maybe don't have a strike differential of about 3 every round and hope you scored the better strikes and get a more convincing win next time. Gamrot is one hell of a cardio wrestler. Doing shots with lightning speed in round 5.

Here is a compilation with some gay music.

shavkat is my fuckin boy. i love how quiet he was in his post fight interview lol, you'd think he'd spent the last hour in the library or something from the sound of his voice. i wonder what is next for him.
also the main event was sick. i was kinda surprised by the result but by no means was it a robbery. i think people are getting a bit carried away now; a lot of judements this year have been really shit, but that doesn't mean every single close fight is a robbery. it dilutes the argument when there's legit fucked judgements, if people make the same complaints each time.
well it' not like people complaining on the internet matters to the scorecards anyway lol, but yeah.

In some ways, the decision for Arman-Gamrot is the best for the division. Gamrot is in his prime, he's 31, he can make maybe 1 run to the belt and it has to be now. Arman is very young at 25, a lot of people thought he won, and outside of a few things (cardio and wrestling defence decreasing over time), his stock hasn't decreased, so they can always put him in another fight to bring him up the ranks. They can give him the winner of Riddell-Turner, which is happening next week. They can give him the loser of RDA -Fiziev, which is the week after. All viable options.

Gamrot they better shoot up the ranks a) because I like him and b) he's new blood in a very stagnant division with a fun wrestling/bjj style. Needs to tighten up his striking though. Just watch the below compilation of all their grappling exchanges. Love it when you get two credentialed grapplers and they don't have this mutual agreement to kickbox.

Shavkhat asked for Wonderboy, that's a different test and one he can win. Very excited to see him just buzzsaw Magny, as if Magny was this utter scrub.

Really hope lightweight sorts itself out and we can get guys like Damir and Guram. It's going to go full central-eastern European.
