It's a shame Garth's panic brawling habit somehow came back. I thought he fixed that under Whitman but old habits die hard I guess. The way he gave up his back so easily AGAIN looked bad too, but maybe I shouldn't blame him because he was obviously rocked.

On the other hand, Oliveira is so good at forcefully executing the game plan. Going for Poirer's body (because "stonewall" guard exposes body), or countering Garth's leg kicks with clinch/punch (because Garth super commits to those kicks), is easier said done but Olive does when others fail.
Gotta wonder what kind of tools he brings in for Islam fight other than his weirdly effective Thai clinch really.
On a side note I'm seeing way too much talk about Islam getting the title shot now.
i can't wait to see him fight islam,
Don't worry, Conor will skip the line because rea$on.

Got to wonder how much, if at all the Rose loss played out regarding Gaethje's performance? This is the guy who broke down in tears in his car when she won it the first time. Regardless, I think him not being able to land his heavy leg kicks consistently, basically his sole consistent attritive weapon, and his plan to not go down to the ground with Oliveira, lead to him swinging wildly and being unable to deal with a punch and clinch game of Oliveira.

Really like Oliveira's prep. He's got all the same consistent tools and style of forward pressure, but his gameplans are pretty much always there like you mentioned. All the same tools from the Poirier fight applied differently.

I really like his title run so far with it being constantly exciting. Really wish someone would come in with a plan against his grappling that went farther than "avoid it."

My predictions were pretty spot on, except for the OSP fight.

Gutted for Tony. I don’t think he ever returns to the W column. His movement was fucking atrocious. The only respite I had was that I didn’t have to see both Cowboy and El Cucuy eat shit on the same card.

So glad I didn’t pay for this one. Was a pretty tame affair. I didn’t even catch the Justin and Charles fight because Rose is so boring - I just turned the stream off. Again, expected outcome. Don’t ever give your back to Charles. Instant L.

How neither of them were told by their corners to fill the space with either leg kicks for Carla, or body jabs/straights for Rose is mystery to me.
And their corners were just encouraging the dancing too. "Let her get impatient" "just keep doing what you're doing" fuck those coaches

Literally the asinine gameplan that Rashad Evans had against Machida. Wait on the counter striker/counter double legger, they are going to get impatient...no they won't. You have to fill the space and get them to do something. It's not even counter striking from Rose, because if it was she would be throwing out volume to get ahead and make the opponent do something.

For Rose, groomer Barry is the one that fucked that corner over with his nonsense. Wittman, if you listen back to the advice, was pushing her to up the pace, pressure and volume, but was doing it in the nicest way possible. Clearly with Rose being the insecure headcase she is, with her fiance/groomer in the corner, telling her tersely to do more is not something they seem willing to do. Pretty certain it's a Pat Barry thing, because Wittman has shown no problem telling Gaethje harshly in the past to get his act together, as well as adjustments (end of Ferguson round 2), but is not doing it with Rose.

I can't stand Rose. She's so cringe and Pat Barry is a cringey groomer. If she dropped Barry and stopped acting so cringe I might start liking her, but as is, she's talented but so mentally fragile that she's not built for a long title reign

Glad she lost.

Speaking of Rose, moving up to flyweight and taking on the Valentine herself would be very interesting.

Oh, and speaking of weight changes, I'd say that Tony can benefit from changing to welterweight since he can build muscle and have a better chance at surviving after taking shots. The only fight I see him taking at his current division are against Dan Hooker and Edson Barboza if he choose to go back up. Other than that, he probably has better opportunities at welter since he can fight guys like Cerrone, Lawler, Diaz, Niko Price, Michel Pereira (that's a sick matchup imo), and others.

I am aware that a lot of people want Tony to retire atm, but knowing Tony and the UFC, that's probably not gonna happen right now, especially considering that Tony was showing adequate striking ability during the first round vs Chandler.

And as a final note, Mike-chan vs McConor is the best fight to make at lightweight. If not, him vs Dusty.

Ah, the good old sign that will lead to even more depression. Had some moments before getting smoked, so he's going to use that to fuel himself and get into even more depressing fights. Put him against someone useless like Paddy Pimblett for maximum funny. If Tony beats Paddy, that kills his hype trains, which is good (annoying Scouser), if he loses, it's going to be both funny that he's lost to someone that bad, as well as funny in the sense that Pimblett is immediately launched into top 10-15, and will now be forced to fight people who can kill him easily.

Chandler McGregor is a banger of a fight and should be made. Everything Chandler does is exactly the sort of thing classic Conor would be good at fighting. Short stocky guy who is orthodox, enters and exits on the same line, isn't great on the back foot, has in almost all his UFC fights been caught and dropped by a shot, and also gasses over time. Perfect fight to test how shot McGregor is when he's given the sort of matchup his style is good at beating, it will likely be really quick and violent, and Chandler gets paid.

Valentina would absolutely fuck up Rose and make it look like a murder scene, totally outclassed.
What are your guys fights to make after UFC 274?

Also I was super impressed with Fiahlo, somebody to lookout for in the near future.
>Chandler McGregor for reasons above. Tony vs Paddy for the memes, or against someone equally shot and unranked.

>I guess Oliveira Makhachev, even though I dislike Makhachev for riding Khabib's coattails and therefore having the very annoying fanbase behind him, while not fighting top guys, but everyone excusing it with the "ducking" excuse. Easier to say everyone is ducking than it is to fight a relevant top lightweight. It is an interesting fight because Oliveira uses guard as a safety zone when hurt, which Makhachev will engage him on. Also pretty certain Oliveira will be the better striker there.

>Winner of Weili-Joanna vs Esparza, hopefully they smoke her. Terrible champ, get her out of there ASAP and put someone fun in.

>Rose vs Dern or Rodriguez. Probably Rodriguez seeing as how she was likely next in line after Carla, but that's gone to shit after Carla won (Rodriguez has a loss to Carla already). Dern would be good as well because you would hope Rose would go out and hammer home to Dern that her striking is still complete shit, but after this fight we might just have Rose skirting around not engaging because of the fear of being tapped, choked or snapped.

Just watched the first major interview done by Korean Zombie on Korean tv after the title loss a month later (someone made an srt file with subs, download the YT video and open it up on VLC to read them). Holy fuck is it depressing, even with them trying to make it a bit funny.

Key point of the interview is when he opens up about not remembering certain parts of the fight, specifically what he said to his coaches in between rounds, and that when he was told that "you said x/y/z in the corner", he can't believe he did, because to him, those are thoughts that have never crossed his mind mid fight.
"After round 3, I was talking with Coach, he asked me "can you do it any more", and I recall answering "I have to". Actually I don't clearly remember saying that. The Korean Zombie I know saying such a thing would translate to "I will try to at least struggle"... I think that all sums up the moment, I instinctively knew that "I was no match for him"...and that fact is still very hard for me to accept.
The whole time, he looks like he's about one degree off from breaking down and crying, his wife on the side already was. He still seems like he's struggling to come to terms with not only how outmatched he was, but that mid fight he must have known he was done, which is something he has never had cross his mind before mid fight.

If there is one thing about fighters, it is that they will almost always convince themselves that they have some sort of chance, but he knew mid fight that he didn't, and he is struggling to get over it. It's especially noticeable when you hear him talk about his title fight with prime Aldo, and how in round 3, he clinched up with him and could hear Aldo breathing hard, and that made him think "he's human, I can beat him". No such thoughts in this fight with Volk.

Oliviera vs Makhachev - I think Olives just destroys him
Gaethje vs Poirier II
Esparza vs Andrade - RIP Esparza
Rose vs Dern, also vs her groomer husband in divorce court
Chandler vs McGregor
Tony Ferguson should retire but I suspect he fights someone like Brad Riddell and loses that too
OSP vs Jacoby
Shogun vs Johnny Walker
Khaos Williams at lightweight vs Nasrat Hapqrast or however you spell it
Randy Brown vs Max Griffin

How can you be a 21 fight veteran and not know how to dig underhooks? Similarly for Storley, how do you just hold the guy down for most of the 25 mins and do no significant damage? This was like a UFC 1 styled fight between karate man and wrestler, where both maybe tried a few months of takedown defense/boxing in prep for this fight.

Anytime MVP loses an angel gets its wings, I can't stand that guy. I was so happy when Lima cleaned his clock.

Also, Conor could be out for a while with his injury, I like Dustin Poirier vs Chandler especially since they really don't like eachother.
