Its so difficult to get into main characters always complaining about their parents and when we get to see them interacting, the former acts like a completely hateable shithead while the parent just comes off as tired and apathetic at worst (tho it could be easily excused given they gotta live with this brat).
Lefitsts have this bad habit of always making characters you arent suppose to like but, the problem is, leftists tend to be such unlikable people themselves with such a warped view of the world and morality that any "bad" characters they make tend to come off as more unintentionally sympathetic than the characters you are meant to like.
