Mixtape isn't even an "indie" game, considering a lot of the funding was made by the Australian government.

"Indie" seems to have become based on the studio size in the modern lexicon, especially due to how many "Indie kickstarters" got poached by Epic paying them a million dollars.

Funny thing is, these types of morons were made fun of by Filthy Frank ages ago. In fact, its creepy how his videos seem to be ahead of their time. Like the Zuckerbot.
Every time I see a video from the 1930s/40s, I feel like, "Damn, I was born in the wrong generation. I'd rather die on a shitfield somewhere by the Volga river for Missa Hitla."

My thoughts:
1. The game developers are immature. Most of the things that they do are because they’re still in a teenage mindset
2. Reviewers have every reason to astroturf for this, that’s just how propaganda works.
3. Nothing that’s happening here is good and we can’t directly prevent it or retroactively fix it by saying anything about the reviewers.

The best that can be done here is to grab some laughs and act on what we can. I’d like for there to be a strong kiwifarms gamedev team, but until then it’s kind of a failing that it’s not happened yet.

I think he made the right call ending his YouTube career. Rather have that end on a good note than have him become an Idubbbz.
Even Dear Feeder was unable to prevent himself from turning into a lolcow as a result of Internet overexposure.

Man, now I'm hungry for some of that magnificent aged cheddar Face Rock puts out just thinking about that thread.

If you're soying out for the most generic insufferable by the books teenage rebellion story in history then I don't know what can be done for you lol. None of the characters are likeable and the dialogue is just cringe. It is mercifully short atleast but that's not really much of a surprise considering it should be an interactive movie on Netflix not treated as if it's actually a real game.

Most games, even indie games, get some public money in the form of art grants and tax credits. It's partially why Montreal and the province of Quebec is basically one of the main epicenters of gaming.

There's better arguments to make against Mixtape, but this ain't it.

Finally got to watch Josh's stream. I mostly agree with him, just not about the rating. I give it a 6-7.

It is a bit lenghty at times but does have its funny moments, including a few not too obvious references, like the one to the 1980s Loudness Wars no one seems to have got.

Didn't watch the end of the stream, but the entire problem with this game is the rating. If the game journos had given it even an 8, no one would have given a shit, looked into Annapurna Interactive, etc.

It started in the 80s, but never ended. As far as references to the loudness wars, they may be in the game but considering the main character wears her headphones backwards, treats speakers like shit, and at the beginning of the game(caught this while watching Josh's stream) uses a pencil to re-wind a tape in the wrong direction(it should have unspooled or made a mess), to think that the creators of this game actually give a fuck about anything audio or music industry related is laughable like the rest of the "nostalgia".

I can ignore not bothering to model the headphone wire, or even the exposed part of the cassette. But this is just stupid.

they used the smashing pumpkins song poorly

dumbass broad doesnt even know music lol

I was confused how this game could afford all this music until I read here that the government helped fund it and the director lives in one of the most bougie suburbs in Australia.
