I have to question why anyone who actually enjoys video games would give two fucks about any awards show, especially one by the Doritos Pope. For example, the idea of rating something like a two person fighting game and a turn based RPG in the same category is almost always fucking retarded.
The biggest thing that shocks me about the Mixtape controversy is that there are still people freaking out about what game propagandists say. It's been a decade since we learned about backwater chat groups where all of these coastal nepo baby faggots coordinate what they are going to write. At some point the problem becomes the fact that you still give them attention. Polygon, Kotaku, and whatever propaganda outlets could come out tomorrow and say that Mixtape and Depression Quest are the two best games ever created, and that Majora's Mask is dogshit, and I wouldn't give a single fuck.
Its kind of like how I view Boomers who hate the media but still watch the cable news. Your attention to these people feeds into propping them up as important voices. If someone who is a valuable member of an organization/community/discussion/etc does or says something retarded, it's reasonable that people call it out and make a controversy of it, because the person doing the retarded act might be capable of change and are otherwise worthwhile contributors. There are enough retarded niggers who game now that most publishers don't have to worry about standards. I just want to know when there will be more attention paid to the minority of gamers who actually have quality standards. The indie space is still, for now, the last bastion of good video game titles and when it's a homegrown, passion project with people who aren't in it for the money and do it for the art (Which many still do, I work with such a group rn) then we get good titles. The problem is that Indie games are being 'Infiltrated' and astro-turfed a lot, with Game Journos (Much live movie critics tbh) being so out of touch they slam good projects and praise pieces of shit a lot of the time. Will this stop? Probably not, but it can't realistically get too much worse due to, even if they keep pushing POS games into the Indie space there's enough slavs in the world building jank in their basements.

The group I work with is an entirely self-funded indie studio who takes on volunteers (And teaches them how to build videogames and helps them get references to enter into the industry properly), it's made up of Spaniards and they're making about 3 games at the moment. It's been a real eye opener to work with them as you do genuinely see below the very thin vineer of astro-turfed 'Indie' titles there is an absolute sea of homegrown talents and passionate artists who struggle to get noticed even with all the cool shit they do.

You know, seeing this I am actively reminded of the concept of double standards and so-called "acceptable targets" when it comes to modern video games and their respective fanbases.

Take World of Tanks and Counter-Strike. You've got different players of differing fanbases mocking the two for their expensive shit (i.e the Dragon Lore or the Raumfalte fiasco), yet these "people" are fine with paying up for the next Team Fortress 2 cosmetic slop, pay up for the next War Thunder virtual pre-order or start sharing their roll results in NIKKE or Genshin either in their friend group or shared community (Discord or Reddit). Yes. They run out of other peoples money. For a while, they relied on "ESG funds" to clear the losses (it's more complex than that, but for the sake of explanation it'll do).
