Dave Dawes said his cat had lost one and a half kilos while he was away

A cat has been rescued from a skip at a recycling centre after going missing from his home in Leamington for almost a month.

Dave Dawes said he had tried leafleting people in the area in the hope that someone might have seen four-year-old Rupert, but with no success.

Then he had a call on Thursday to say a woman had spotted him trapped in the skip and that staff at the recycling centre had got him out.

Mr Dawes said Rupert had lost a lot of weight, but his ordeal did not otherwise appear to have affected him.

Rupert had been identified through his microchip and Mr Dawes urged other cat owners to make sure their pets had been chipped.

Since 10 June it has been a legal requirement for cat owners in England to do this.

"A lot of cats which get found are never identified," he said.

Mr Dawes lives just 600m from the recycling centre and said his cat regularly goes outside, but he would be kept in for the next few weeks while he regains weight, on the advice of vets.

How retarded do you have to be to lose your cat for a month, and then continue to let it roam outside after you luck out and get it back? Pet owners who let their pets wander freely are some of the biggest faggots on the planet.

Restricting the freedom of a cat is wrong. He should be allowed to roam as long as he has a jangly collar.

I felt this way until I actually kept an indoor cat. They can be perfectly content living even in a small apartment, provided they’re adequately cared for. Yeah, there’s a certain excitement in running into your cat when you’re out of the house or imagining what adventures they get up to when they’re out being independent, but it’s not worth them coming home injured or just not coming home at all one day.

The woman who lived in my house before me had three cats killed on the road, and STILL kept letting the others out.
Stupid bitch.

Still an absolute unit of a kitty. Always the ginger ones. Glad he was found ok

The uk is mainly outside cats and some cats do wander.
People who have "outdoor cats" are pieces of shit who no respect for other peoples property or the environment.
The UK doesn’t really have a culture of keeping cats inside like other countries do. It’s seen as unusual to have an ‘indoor cat’. All ours have always gone outside because they were adult rescues who were used to it and became distressed if stopped. As they got older they became less and less bothered about going out and these days they just go out in the summer to bask on the patio when it’s warm.
When I’ve lived in other countries I’ve seen the opposite- it’s not really done to let them out, but in the UK, outside cats are the norm.
We don’t have big wild animals to eat them, and the climate isn’t hot or cold enough to be dangerous to them, so most cats have outside access.
Ours are very old now (we lost one recently) and if we get kitties again I will probably go for some fancy pants pedigrees and keep them inside.

It's nice to pretend that pets can wander and not be threatened by forces outside your control, but that's like saying a lone woman can backpack through India without worry.

In an apartment/house situation, please keep your cats indoors, or build controlled outdoor spaces for them where you know where they are at all times. Some cats might do fine outside due to probability, but I see too many cats on the side of the road or missing ears and eyes due to local eagles/raccoons. Farm cats have a barn to retreat to and typically don't leave the farm grounds itself. But they're closer to working animals than true pets.

You guys now have the wild shitbull. Maybe for a long time you guys didn't, but those days are gone. Uless the UK hss a sunset policy for this breed and absolutely enforces sterilization and removal of unapproved dogs, the alleys and streets will not be safe for cats for a long time.

Who the fuck lives near a recycling center?

Anyway indoor cats and outdoor cats have their place, but the urban hellscape is not the place for an outdoor cat.
