If I haven't played MC in like 15 years is it a fun little revisit still?
If you enjoy factory building, there are massive modpacks for that like statech.
It does however, get extremely complicated when you start making advanced materials and processing crude oil.
You basically need to build refineries from individual components to make and combine different chemicals that are then used to make different stuff. Alot of chemistry.
Everything before having to do insane amounts of chemistry was really fun imo.
Oh and it does come with an easy and fluent quest menu so you do not need to look up how to craft the next component online or from the E menu.

Only play it if you enjoy something like satisfactory or the other factory grind games.

Playing computer legos with friends isn't insurmountably difficult
Are you volunteering to write the next 300 step guide on installation and setup of PolyMC and an attached modpack for the retards in the back?
Yes, really, i had to detail each ctrl-click and cut-paste for one of them. I would not bother except that he's actually half-decent at building without blockvomit.

lol "they changed it so it sucks now," the thread. This happens literally every time they add anything at all to the game, having failed to get approval from the "bought it ten years ago and been bitching about it ever since while still playing it regularly" committee, because [thing they added in this update] isn't exactly and precisely [thing I once thought of
you say that as if it makes it somehow an invalid criticism.
yes, their additions have been more and more niche, skewing what minecraft was towards something it not only was never meant to be, but towards something nobody wanted.
There is an alternate world where their additions were things people wanted long ago that were features envisioned by the devs since the beginning.
There IS an alternate world where the additions didn't murder the original feel of the game by messing with the core dynamic

But i present you something better:
One of the things they could've done, especially with such a bullshit amount of resources, is to SPLIT teams into multiple update branches.
Have multiple MAIN versions of minecraft, going towards different tastes, so there's not one main version where the combined stress of walking on eggshells creates content nobody wants and is near inconsequential.
they could literally resell you minecraft multiple times over and normies would buy it with a smile.

you could have minecraft's Create mod on steroids, with the team folding minecraft in two to make it properly multithreaded and thus not have create's performance issues, something the team can't do here because it'd break compatibility with literally every mod known to man and then some, but being the game dev means everyone will follow this new code

I'm seeing comments on here asking why they didn't do the Aether, it's pretty simple.

The Aether is a fanmade idea, from the name to what is inside it. It's been made many times already as mods and people have been making/developing it for years.

Minecraft wouldn't have anything truly new/original to add to it. If they make it too similar, modders could become angry and accuse them of stealing their ideas be it in new blocks, mobs, items, etc.

There really is no point to make an official Aether because it wouldn't add anything substantial to the default game (not that the Sift will either tbh). At least with Sift, it's an original idea they can build and expand without infringing on what modders made 10 years ago. It's kinda like how in Pokemon, they can't add new Eevee evolutions because fan designs have pretty much done what they would have made. It sucks, but I get why they chose the Sift.

What I don't get, however (like many of you mentioned), is why they added a new dimension instead of an End update. I don't keep up with modern Minecraft news, would changing the end piss off modern players? I know there's that whole speed run subculture who would likely hiss a fit if they had to learn new tactics to beat the game. Would an End update be controversial?
Counterpoint: There are plenty of End update mods already, yet pretty much everyone knows it should be added to the base game. The problem is not official developers adding shit that modders already did, the problem is official developers being retarded faggots who have no idea what they're doing. So anything they add will be shit.

Have you considered that this is because Mojang is soulless swedes who have no passion after the creator left? Would you mind killing yourself?
exclusively vanilla and modded 1.12.2 for the entire ~14 years I've had MC. Only just in the last month or two have I gone up to 1.17.10 for GTNH
You actually went down to 1.7.10, not up.

Fuck no.

Okay at that point you were just self harming via tech illiterate swarthoid, you can't help a nigga that can't help themselves.

Whoopsies, Missed the decimal. It's hard to tell at a glance which of the two GTNH is sometimes since they've already backported everything of note mojang's done in 14 years. Deepslate, the world height, and barrels lol.

Really makes you wonder what the point of all their development was, if it could all just run on a version released 13 years ago, and with the greatest modpack of all time to boot.

I've discovered a foolproof way to avoid discussions on this site you don't like too. Don't click on the thread "Minecraft" and don't post 4+ paragraphs of clitty leaking.
or just go to some nigger you don't like's profile and click the ignore button.

Playing computer legos with friends isn't insurmountably difficult, it's usually just that the guides are ass.
sometimes your ISP be fucking with you, even some first world still uses CGNAT because they don't want to migrate to ipv6, i pay like 50$ for my provider to still stick me in a ipv4 cgnat but i'm third world, so...

I would like to "play with the legos" with others, but this requires Insane Mental Gymnastics and multi-page guides OR literally being paid to do so nowadays, mostly because of said changes that supposedly make the game even more moddable.
lol no it doesn't, homie. Download game, run launcher, log in, click [play], bingo, you're fuckin' playing. Match whatever version your friends are using, and click that before you click [play].

Quit acting like this is some colossal imposition on your dignity. This is the least offensive silly content update I've seen in awhile and the outrage is ... well, okay it's pretty typical for the assholes who can't be happy with holding the keys to the most extensible/modifiable sandbox on earth.

ETA:
you say that as if it makes it somehow an invalid criticism.

They wanted it. It's their game, yes? Their name's on it and everything.

It's unbelievable to me that a game so inexpensive and moddable is subject to this endless griping on practically every update because it didn't include every autist's preferred favorite niche feature and/or they weren't personally consulted for approval prior to development starting.

"Why don't they listen to their players?" 1) They probably do listen to the players who actually talk to them (like human beings, not oppressors/tormentors/jailors/slaves), 2) the "players" are so broadly varied, of differing opinions, and fuckin' schizophrenic, I can't say I blame them for not wanting to listen either, and this is coming from somebody who fucking loathes Microsoft and everything they touch/own.

It's also marketed towards literal children, because it's a children's sandbox game. I've been playing on a family server with my cousins and uncles, and we range from 10 years old to 40+. My younger female cousins love the pink tree biomes and the bees.

The modern minecraft can really only be enjoyed with friends/family, otherwise I just play my alpha.
agreed; the only "fun" i have on minecraft is when my friends enter the 2 week phase and invite me onto a refreshed server so we can fuck around until we all get bored to death again.

minecraft just kinda feels like sisyphus and his good ol' boulder... you don't have anything else to do there besides roll it up the hill whenever you feel like it..... you can always set that boulder down a few months until you get bored of everything else. minecraft is the boulder but the issue is you're not ever really going to find any boulder close enough without it being illegal or some shit. i just want minecraft to be fun again. like what the fuck is a sniffer? we got suspicious sand blocks you can brush off instead of, like, proper cooking or more fruits and shit? you'd think with the whole bees and tree focus these days they'd do something interesting but its just "oh heres a new slime block and some fun blocks that make water gysers, see you in 3 years". sure i can play older versions but those snip out QOL updates (horses swimming, saddles being craftable, etc)

It's a fuckin' sandbox guys. Ignore the shit you hate and play the shit you like. JFC.
I’m on your side, though it is annoying that Mojang is staffed by retards who would rather make a big twee dimensional update rather than expand on and polish existing mechanics like minecarts or The End.
For example, the best update in recent memory added wool slabs and stairs. People have been wanting that for over a decade, we got the CUM CUBE before simple variations of wool blocks because of weirdly skewed priorities.
However, as someone who just builds in Creative mode I’m looking forward to more blocks at the very least, but dude I’d be more hype for an update that expands on the rock blocks because again there’s very basic stuff that would make so much more sense from a design perspective.

expand on and polish existing mechanics like minecarts or The End.
The trouble with doing this is that people are so accustomed to the current mechanics, quirks and bugs involved with minecarts and the exact gameplay mechanics and functions of The End that literally changing anything will piss off a very large group of autists who cannot tolerate any kind of change whatsoever.

I forget which version it was that finally fixed long-standing inconsistencies (i.e. bugs) with redstone behavior, maybe 1.5-ish? But it improved redstone (switching it from simple "on/off" to 0-15, for example, and fixing bugs, adding comparators, sensors, etc.) and absolutely fucked off a whole bunch of assholes who spent MONTHS bitching about it.

Adding new stuff avoids touching existing mechanics. Not that it stops the bitching of course, as seen here :story:

A new Minecraft dimension was just announced.

This sift thing just looks like a more colorful version of the aether. I keep forgetting they fucked up the textures so now default minecraft looks like an unofficial modpack.

I miss when you could change the color of water before they changed how water worked so it then required extra bullshit to change water.

They probably do listen to the players who actually talk to them (like human beings, not oppressors/tormentors/jailors/slaves
Nah, if they listened to those people they'd make the little yellow smiley ball helper nigga I keep seeing people abusing official.

I get it, but minecarts in particular need something. And really, as evidenced by this thread alone people will bitch about anything as autistic people dislike change.

quirks and bugs involved with minecarts
If they are too afraid to change minecarts to be useful because it might break redstone stuff, then add a new type of minecart or some other rail bound device meant for redstone that has the old behavior and let the minecart have new behavior. Did they ever make those experimental changes or are those still a datapack to be forgotten like the combat overhaul

Literally just allow them to be chained together, and if you want to get crazy make a way for them to go faster with either an engine (the furnace minecart sucks rn) or a new go-faster rail. Boom, nothing broke and things can work better now.
