Maybe autistic of me but I honestly am just continuously disappointed with every single update minecraft does; yes, it is the ultimate sandbox, but minecraft has always had this ghost-in-the-machine feel to me back in the day with the slightly janky look and limited features. I kind of liked it back then, but everyone says that. Sift update just feels like the biggest nail in the coffin of what "modern minecraft" is, with that being (most likely) useless shit in varying complimenting colors for the sake of decorating.
Minecraft these days does this weird tightrope walk between troonslop pink pastel housebuilder sandbox and the old traditional explorative risk-and-reward sandbox... it kind of baits you into thinking there's more to the game than there is, I don't know. You'd expect fishing and cooking and orchardworks in a troonslop game but you don't get that. You'd expect better horsemanship and engagement with tools and maps and storage systems in an exploration game but that's not there either. Minecraft is a weird homonculus of both and neither so it's just kind of boring bloatware now.
I don't do video games anymore - I figured the forced migration would be the end of the sidewalk for me. However, I peeked into this thread recently out of curiosity's sake and found that years later, not one thing is different with Minecraft's problems. The game has gotten worse. I'll agree with the sentiment that less is more, and that's really why the sense of wonder playing the game is gone whereas that really wasn't the case during the Beta days. It's genuinely disgusting, the extent these faggots will go to rewrite history. Notch got damnatio memoriae'd from his own game, and the only remaining mention of his involvement is the one Microsoft is legally obliged to keep in the credits. It used to be at the very top, but they've since moved it deep down into the list so that most people won't see it.
But then there's the whole trend of shunning Notch's work, from calling the original textures "Programmer's Art", as to insinuate it wasn't "true" art just because Notch wasn't a professional artist, even though a lot of thought and effort went into making those textures, or insinuating that he was a talentless amateur, even though he was already an established game developer before "cave game tech test" appeared, with works such as Wurm Online.
They want everyone to believe that he was nothing, even though without him they would have nothing.
Mojang cares more about forced sanitization of not even that iffy things as they double down on adding things which don't need to be added for the sake of "more blocks". Looking back as an adult in my late twenties, I realize now the issues really come from adding things you never work on as updates come at a glacial pace. To add insult to injury, modders can put out more content in a few months vs. this "one major update a year" nonsense.
One of my early complaints was why have these interesting biomes with nothing in them?? You're just catering to the most surface level people who giggle at new blocks and colors while ignoring gameplay mechanics. It's like I don't care about glowing text on signs, back then I wanted more monsters to fight and more interesting animals to encounter by chance in the world. They don't even add what would be obvious things (like, say, a jungle spider or sharks) for reasons which are beyond me.
Like the shark thing is dumb on its own given the excuse I recall back then was "some shark species are endangered, and we don't want people hunting them given game drops". Like what child is trying to go out and hunt sharks in the Pacific Ocean or something I mean come on. But hey, just wander into a jungle you'll be a-okay! No dangerous wildlife there!
