27-year-old vegan dog, eh? Citation fucking needed. I don't care if that's the healthiest elderly dog on earth, no way does a dog live 2.5 times its natural lifespan and look like that.

Also LOL @ supervegan equating a relationship with a man with enslavement. Perhaps this vegan is unaware that the whole "women never want to have sex" thing is a joke.

I don't mind vegans. These vegans, though....
Wikipedia lists her as the 4th oldest dog. So that's not even completely correct. So I am not buying the vegan story.

Conversely, there are shallow vegans who believe that going full vegan will lead to better, more fulfilling sex lives. It just astounds me.

Observe the video:

And I quote for their website: "For years, women have been open to the physical, emotional, and karmic benefits of veganism. But now, more and more men are discovering the perks of a plant-based diet. More specifically, a dramatic increase in their wang power and sexual stamina.

Unfortunately, the consequences of all this mind-blowing intercourse can often lead to sex injuries such as whiplash, pulled muscles, rug burn, and even a dislocated hip."

These people think that having a fulfilling sexual life equates to bodily injury. Y'know, because having your boyfriend put you in neck brace after borderline sexual abuse is soooooooooo romantic!

Yeah, the video makes me NOT want to go vegan, at all. How is that a turn-on for anyone except sadomasochists?

I feel the need to point out that if you want to help animals, do not donate to the ASPCA or the HSUS. Donate directly to your local shelters or better yet, donate your time to help.

Here, have a malnourished dog.

If these people want a vegan pet so badly, why not get an animal that doesn't NEED meat?

There's no way in hell that dog is 27 or vegan. In fact as far as I can tell from my cursory research nearly everything in this post is a lie. The only places that reference a 189 year old dog named Bramble are vegan sites and most of them have no pictures of the dog.

This source states she was a puppy in 1977, which would make her much older than 27. This source gives very little information on Bramble but seems to indicate that she passed away, as it states that she was the oldest living dog, unlike the Tumblr post which implies that she's still living (Wikipedia confirms that she died in 2003). It also mentions the world's second oldest dog, Bluey, who lived to be almost 30 and ate meat.

Wikipedia lists a dog named Bramble as the 4th oldest dog to have ever lived. Her diet is not mentioned and I can't find any credible sources to verify it. One site mentioned the Sunday Telegraph as a source, which does not sound particularly reliable to me.

If you don't have time, donate physical items! Shelters always need kitty litter, blankets, toys and kibble. If your pet is finicky and doesn't take to a new bran of food or litter well, call your shelter and see if they'll accept open supplies.

Not too long ago, I found out that most beer isn't vegetarian -- because sometimes bones are used in the process of making yeast or something like that. After I found that out, I was like, fuck this shit, I'm never going veg.

i'm sure the excuse is "laying eggs kills the chicken"
just like how they think
"sheering wool off a sheep kills it"
and
"milking a cow kills it"
just posting vegan related something here

"lol black people? who cares" - white rich vegan

Don't sheep have to be shorn? It's like a dog being groomed -- their wool gets too full and matted, from what I understand.

Vegans casually ignoring that a pretty good amount of these horrible anti-vegan meat-eaters could ever champion animal welfare and oppose cruelty. Forget those who are in favor of making the meat industry as humane as possible and improving the quality of life for livestock.

It never ceases to amaze me how deeply uninformed people like that are.

The pro-slaughter stance is a no-brainer, unless you want to try to do a whole cow Odori ebi style. Good luck with that.

Modern "factory farms" are a godsend to modern civilization. They insure a plentiful supply of clean, consistent and nutritious food is freshly shipped out to the public at large. Ever since the big "science boom" of the 1950's the quality of fresh meat and dairy products, and humane treatment of livestock has increased in leaps and bounds. Admittedly there is the occasional off-note- like that most "modern" turkeys have to be artificially inseminated- But I'll take that over having to buy parasite-infested, "questionable" quality at best sloppily processed meat & dairy any day.

And while yes, there is the occasional derp-up and recall of product- and there is always room for improvement- the sanitation standards at processing plants are harsh & unforgiving enforced.

Take for example the chicken plant I was working at. Every day when I got there, after I went through the airlock to the locker room, I put on the following: A snow suit, a haz-mat style disposable hooded plastic coverall, a butcher's lab coat, knee-high rubber boots, elbow-length rubber gloves, a hair net, a beard net, and then my hard hat. Then I went through another airlock to the plant proper, splashed through a "boot washer"- a foot deep trough of constantly flowing chlorine sanitizer on the floor that are stationed between every room in the plant- and washed my gloved hands in more sanitizer, then I got on my forklift & went to work. The first day on the job, my foreman said something I'll never forget: "You see those people in the red hard hats & white lab coats?"- I nodded & he continued- "Those are USDA inspectors. They are GOD here. Whatever they want you to do, do it. They can both fire you, and arrest you." And they both would and could. I saw a handful of people flat-out fired by them, and one was brought up on criminal negligence charges.

Not to put too fine a point on, it the entire management staff at the plant was more concerned about the well-being of the animals we were processing than the comfort of the workers.

Vegans, read a fucking book. I'd suggest something by Temple Grandin.

Must salute and thank you for basically teaching a lot of how the meat industry works. Honestly most of it is foggy and while I always knew PeTA and other similar 'sources' were full of exaggerated claims and scare tactics, but there wasn't much to show how the inner workings of it all go.

I must admit I'm very pleasantly surprised hearing this myself. Always had the visions of the mistreatment in my head when I thought of the slaughtering, which thankfully seems to be mostly a relic or a dying notion.

As far as these people are concerned the modern meat industry is still exactly the same as in Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.

EDIT: Motherfucker. I should have caught that.

to be fair the meat industry is all drugged up animals and unhealthy working conditions, but not as bad as these people make it out to be

It's all propaganda. Pure and simple. They take the one lax/crooked plant or shitty independent processor they can find, and try to paint every other business like them. It's as transparently fake as it is stupid. The huge irony in the case of The Jungle is that it pissed off everyone for the wrong reason. It was meant to be an expose on the downright horrible working conditions in packing houses, but people just got grossed out about the meat. Go figure.

Animals full of drugs? Google the The Animal Medicinal Drug Use Clarification Act (AMDUCA), signed into law in 1994. It's just one of the many, many things that the industry has done to make meat & dairy products healthier. I'm proud to say that all of the beef, pork and chicken we cut in my shop is hormone & antibiotic free- born, raised & harvested in the USA. We also try to locally source as much as possible. Out catfish comes from "Pride of the Pond" in Mississippi for instance, and our chicken was actually walking around in Alabama two days before we get it. We also try to sell as much Gulf shrimp as we can, but the Chinese/Vietnamese imports are a big competitor. They're really cheap. As in both price and the condition the animals are fed, housed, harvested and packed. Uck.

I will agree with you about the working conditions though. It's a hard, cold, dangerous job. Back in the day workers were basically expendable, and it's only through lots of hard fighting that we've even got the few rights we have now. Statistically, slaughterhouse workers & butchers receive lots of injuries over the course of their careers. And I'm not talking about the day-in-day-out cut fingers & sore backs. +10 stitch cuts, lost fingers, lost hands, chronic knee & back issues from hoisting around 80 lb. boxes of meat all day are commonplace. Also, since you work in what's basically a room-sized freezer, any part of you that does ache complains. Loudly. All day.

Knock on wood, I've been cutting five years and all I've gotten so far is one cut that needed three stitches, dislocated my right kneecap (long story), and I threw my back out once tossing a 95. Lb box of pork loin and ended up spending a week at home derped up on Percocet.

All that being said though, I love it. It's the best job I've ever had.

Off-topic: you're a badass.

I work for Pilgrims chicken and I can Co firm much of what Husbando said. Like if the USDA so much as thinks someone touched a pack of chicken without washing their hands, we have to destroy several pallets of chicken.

Vegans aren't quite as prolific in the social justice sphere as one would think, despite the usual sjw traits- shaming people for engaging in regular and normal activities, bizarre, postmodern worldviews, militant evangelism of said worldviews, having flawed or strange logic, et cetera..., which I personally theorize is because of the 'body positive' movement already on Tumblr.

Now I'm not against eating meat but the only possible way that the United States could have faced a modern obesity epidemic (which spawned the body positive movement) like this is primarily because of 1. increasingly sedentary lifestyles and 2. the enormous amount of unhealthy crap, particularly meats, eaten by Americans on a daily basis. Vegans typically tout losing weight on a veggie diet, which is taken by some tumblrites as fat shaming. Given the body positive movement's (and Tumblr's) love and celebration of junk food binges and especially bacon, this easily puts that bloc at ends with the vegans.
