If you really want to actually help animals, donate to your local branch of the ASPCA. Or even better, donate to the nearest animal shelter- money, time, supplies, anything- most shelters are horribly overworked & short on everything except good will.

Most feral animals and animals that end up in a shelter come from this issue. A family pet "got out", got pregnant, and now you got a problem. Five or six problems. It's your responsibility to see that these animals get to a loving, life-long home. You don't make any animal suffer for your irresponsibility. Period. You made a commitment. Honor it. A pet is not a toy, an accessory, or a piece of jewelry. He or she is a lifelong friend.

And on a personal note- God help you if I catch you "dropping" a batch of puppies, kittens or any other animal out on a lonely rural stretch, where they more than likely will starve to death. That sort of thing makes me want to make you a personal project. Before I call the cops.

I always spay and neuter my pets, as soon as possible. Even though my cats and dog are all male, I am nice enough to prevent that kind of accident for someone that is too stupid to do that with their female pets.

On the topic of spay and neuter- if you can't afford to spay/neuter your pet, ask if there's a low cost alternative! I got my cat spayed for $10 thanks to a program my area offered, when my vet wanted $250 to have it done in a proper office.

For real, fuck PETA. And as for their utterly insane shelter kill rate (85%-90% of all animals are euthanized; this is unheard of in any other shelter), they don't even hide it. They don't express regret or shame. They're proud of it. When questioned, a PETA spokesperson said “Our euthanasia program has never been a secret. This is one of many, many things that we do to alleviate the suffering of animals.” Go ahead, read that again. I'll wait.

The mission of animal shelters is to protect and provide for stray animals and give them the opportunity to be adopted into a loving home. Euthanasia is the very last resort and is only done to prevent overcrowding; animal shelter workers and volunteers do absolutely everything they can to prevent it and, if they can't, the situation is treated with somberness and with great sadness. Why? Because having to kill a perfectly healthy, innocent animal just because some dumbfuck abandoned it and you can no longer provide for it is extremely sad and unfair. The best way to alleviate the suffering of animals is to provide them with a good home, not to fucking murder them.

Also, PETA rakes in $25 million a year. Instead of using that insane amount of money to finance their shelters, they basically spend it all on stupid publicity stunts and gross, moronic advertisements. Oh, and hanging out with celebrities, who are also stupid.

Thankfully, it seems like most people are aware of just how disgusting PETA is (their ads drive enough people away as it is). But these dumbass celebrities need to realize (if they haven't already) that PETA is a sham and that they need to donate their time and money to a much more worthy organization.

Seconding the notion to volunteer at animal shelters and donate to the ASPCA. Every little bit helps!

I cannot stand it when people abandon animals like that. Guess what? A dog or cat who isn't spayed/neutered isn't going to think "Well, gee, I guess I shouldn't have sex with that other dog/cat because my family won't like that..." No, they're going to fuck the absolute shit out of that other animal because that's what they're biologically hardwired to do. That's what all animals are hardwired to do, including humans. If we didn't feel the need to bang and have babies, all life on Earth would have died out millions of years ago.

So if you didn't spay or neuter your pet, and they wind up getting pregnant, it's your duty to make sure that those babies find a loving home. If you absolutely can't, then make sure they find their way to an animal shelter where they can hopefully be adopted. Or hell, just set up shop in a busy area with a big sign marked "FREE PUPPIES!!!" or something. Don't leave them in the middle of fucking nowhere where they'll die slowly and painfully.
