It was a PR stunt against a company that doesn't do PR. Kind of redundant really but according to the guy who runs spikeybits (Rob Bear) he mentioned on his podcast PETA sent this out to all the major warhammer sites and forums.
At this point you have to ask whether PETA's PR department is actively working to make them look stupid. This is their stance on faux fur: http://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/what-is-petas-stance-on-faux-fur/ By definition, the fur the Space Wolves wear is fake in that it is an artificial representation of real fur not to mention it's tiny, hard plastic and just... man fuck PETA. It really does seem that the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing and this just seems like an attempt to find SOMETHING wrong with wargaming so they can have a stance on it.

This is the same organization that made a stink about hunting fictional creatures in World of Warcraft.
Weren't they pissed about Assassin's Creed four because you can kill whales in it? I mean, I understand that they don't want their members graphically harpooned on screen, but still.

PETA thinks that hunting fictional creatures is like a gateway drug, just like people sometimes think Marijuana leads to other drugs ("No it doesn't. It leads to fucking CARPENTRY, that's the problem!" - Denis Leary). They think if you get a taste of hunting fake animals, sooner or later you'll want to hunt the real thing. Just like feminists like Anita Sarkeesian think that if you play games where you rape rob and murder people, you're only a step away from doing it IRL.

Did they seriously miss the data where playing video games has no direct correlation to actual violence? /rhetorical question

Of course they did, just like all the Fundamentalists and peaceniks that insisted the same.

PETA doesn't really think much beyond "attention. . .mussssst have attention" and then they attack something popular for no good reason.

The letter from Peta to games workshop is amazing:
Indeed, nothing on the bloody battlefields of Warhammer’s conflict-ravaged universe could match the terrible reality that foxes, minks, rabbits, and other living beings experience at the hands of the fur trade.

Whatever else you can say about the battery chickens-at least they get too die.

Aren't Fenrisian wolves technically human tho?
Nope, they're a native genus (with several species) of Fenris and basically super-wolves. The Wulfen are though, since Space Corgis tend to have a bit of a fucked gene pool that can result in turning into a werewolf basically; probably as bad as the Thousand Sons pre-heresy, whose bodies would randomly warp and degenerate.

But the fact that PETA decided to pick this rather marginal piece of nerdery to get views is hilarious considering I forgot these wannabe eco-terrorists existed for years.
