Microsoft Scales Back AI Goals Because Almost Nobody Is Using Copilot

Sub-heading: Google's Gemini is on pace to push Copilot into third place.

Microsoft has cut its sales targets for its agentic AI software after struggling to find buyers interested in using it. In some cases, targets have been slashed by up to 50%, suggesting Microsoft overestimated the potential of its new AI tools. Indeed, compared with ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, Copilot is falling behind, raising concerns about Microsoft's substantial AI investment.

Microsoft was an early investor in many of the latest AI companies. It ended up with a serious stake in OpenAI and benefited from early access to its models, creating Bing Chat and Copilot when Google, Meta, and Anthropic were just getting started. But now its momentum has stalled, and like everyone else, it's not making much money from its AI products. That's because no one is buying them, and that is because very few people actually find them useful, The Information reports.

"The Information’s story inaccurately combines the concepts of growth and sales quotas," Microsoft said in a very defensive statement (via Futurism), adding that "aggregate sales quotas for AI products have not been lowered."

Petulance aside, tests from earlier this year found that AI agents failed to complete tasks up to 70% of the time, making them almost entirely redundant as a workforce replacement tool. At best, they're a way for skilled employees to be more productive and save time on low-level tasks, but those tasks were already being handed off to lower-level employees. Having an AI do it and fail half the time isn't exactly a winning alternative.

Other AI companies are just doing better, too. Windows Central reports that OpenAI's ChatGPT commands over 61% of the market, and Google's Gemini is now less than 1% behind Microsoft's 14% with Copilot. That's after a 12% growth over the last quarter, too, suggesting Gemini is well on its way to becoming the real second-place alternative to ChatGPT.

As for Copilot? I don't know anyone who uses it. Do you? It seems difficult to imagine this feature suddenly changing the way we all use Windows.

I am all here for the AI industry to burn down.
AI is the future, but not the products they are making, if they had bothered asking users what they actually want, they would have known that they should have started with porn AI and branched from there.

Now hopefully these faggots will quit trying to force their useless gay AI shit into my operating system. But they're run by a Jeet so probably not...

i use grok and whatever brave uses because it works. when i asked copilot about truml shit it would spit out "sorry i can't respond to this". no value in something like that.

I despise Bill Gates' microshaft, so why would I use their context creation machine learning? I want so badly to ditch their shitty platform.

I asked Gemini about the Disney Sora AI shit, and it told me I wouldn't be able to generate a video where Mickey bends over to pick something up and has a bulge appear in his pants with enough plausible deniability that it's not actually one. So I don't even see the point.

The problem with Copilot is that Microsoft has named like 10 different services "Copilot" with little to no distinguishment between what those systems do or are. Then there's the next problem: they all suck. All of M$'s "Copilot"s are outstripped by other systems.

Copilot chat is overshadowed by ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, etc. Their coding assistant is heavily beaten by LLMs like Claude, despite Copilot having all of Github to steal from. No one wants the intrusive Copilot OS assistant because it sucks and is intrusive. And the Copilot computers have awful specs and run most of their shit on the "cloud."

And all this focus on AI, and the overall jeetification of M$ has also caused their non-AI systems to plummet in quality as well. I don't think they've had an update that hasn't broken a major feature of Win11 in months. It's atrocious.

No it's the future it's going to fix everything don't listen to the fud invest another million it's going to be the next NFTs

They should really be focusing on making Windows 11 not a flaming pile of shit above all.
A-fucking-Men! Windows 11 is so god damn retarded it defied belief; how could we trust a company that spends 30 years to produce this pile of shit?

If the Apollo program had run on Windows; we’d never have made it out of LEO.

Out of interest I tried to make Copilot produce a simple year plan in Excel, very basic stuff not exactly NASA level and it just can't do it. You'd think the whole interaction with Office etc. would be the selling point but clearly not.

I'm fine with Windows Standard Edition being Goyslop OS but they really need to make a professional product that's actually for professionals. A no-nonsense zero-telemetry OS that doesn't waste CPU cycles on "AI" or vibe-coded dogshit. Listen to that one guy that made Task Manager.
