While in largely Protestant USA divorces happened, albeit rarely, in the 1800s, in heavily Catholic Ireland the constitution outlawed divorce until 1995. And the referendum overturning that just barely passed with 50.28% voting yes.
  • On that note, atheism is generally frowned upon.
  • You can't just wear whatever you want like these shlubs do. Middle class 1950s man would never have gone outside wearing a tshirt and jeans. There's an expectation of cultural conformity.
Look at how Mormon guys live, since they're the best example of still living the 'traditional lifestyle' but not being cloistered off like the Amish. Can you see MGTOWs doing that? I can't.

I'm not the type to cry sexism, but I do think the majority of them do just dislike women. I don't think it's about returning to the "good old days" because as you noted, men had just as much expectations back then as women did. They use the "good old days" as a cover.

They should just come out and say they're angry at women. Most people would respect them more.

They'll cheerfully admit that they are, but with the additional statement that every single woman deserves their wrath because we benefit from some kind of inherent privilege conferred by virtue of being born female.

Y'know, exactly the same arguments as the SJWs they despise.

From what I have seen there seem to be two ways how they handle their resentment towards women which is perfectly illustrated in the cases of Turd Flinging Monkey and stardusk aka Thinking Ape. The former goes full :autism: mode which I think has been covered several times in the farms. On the other hand I enjoy some of stardusk's videos, especially his "Perspectives" interviews. But God almighty and Saint Nicholas can you taste the complete and utter resignation and defeat when he talks, especially about women. Each time after listening to his newest video you'll wonder if he's going to an hero himself going by his tone. He makes Eeyore look like an antidepressant in comparison.

I mean I understand where the anger comes from, but at some point I think becoming a fag has to be the better alternative then being this miserable.

I get the feeling that guys who believe all women are just scheming to get money and planning to bang the Chads haven't spent much time actually talking to women and getting to know them. I think there's a belief among the manlet crowd that just because a woman is attractive she should be into what you're into and you should be entitled to date them. That's obviously not how it works.

And assuming you should have all the same interests is something that will make you both poorer. Trying out things your partner is into can open your eyes to some new experiences you might never have tried if your S.O. hadn't given you that push into it. The manlet, by and large, is sheltered and thinks things should cater to him.

That's a problem I've noticed that the well-meaning have created. A lot of people talk about having interests in common and "being friends first", so these guys (who are disturbingly literal-minded) seek women who want exactly the same things and act like their buddies.

Then they find out it doesn't work like that.

You know, any time a woman talks about what she wants in a man, the Manosphere will scream and throw tantrums and tell her she's got no right to tell men how to be a man (or attractive to women).

Also, "Chase Great Men". Isn't that precisely what these guys bitch about, that women are bad for accepting nothing less than greatness in their men? (You know, when they're not bitching about how women go for losers but not the kind of loser they are?)
 
I spent some time browsing their website.
One thread, they went on in length about how women expire after 25 and single moms are just used up gold diggers. No real man would want a used up woman and raise some other guys kid.

Another was them crying tears of joy about some video where women go into bars without makeup to hit on men and get turned down. They were so happy that "women were being treated like how they treat men" while failing to realize that the video shows they are just as "shallow" as women are.
