I am not playing games like these for political shitflinging. I want a good game, and if it doesn't look good and the devs start to spend more time on political discussion than the game then they can fuck right off I just won't play it. It seems to me that the drama is coming from a bunch of joyless faggots around the game than anything from the Devs at this point. Though if the stuff about the devs for the new game being a different team from the old ones and danger hair types getting involved are true that doesn't bode well.

It depends like said others on kiwi knew the authors dealings and said their opinions, reddit saw "EPIC NAZI OWNAGE" and thought it was gonna be EPIC!!!! Only to discover the games made the Rangers/Spartan the defacto good guys becasue they werent political

It is funny how the devs thought they where going to have an easy win with the reddit crown because muh hekkin novoreich nazis lmfao. Interestinly though I cant decide if the train sequence in the trailer is meant to represent either: muh poor hekkin jews, or the gorillion ukrainian children that got sent to russia or whatever. Either way, novoreich is based for wanting to preserve a mutant free humanity, and the "wake up. wake up to pure nation. clean air, bright future" went incredibly hard for me and made the part where you get to fight with novoreich in last light so much more enjoyable in retrospect.

Anyway, as I said elsewhere this development isn't all that surprising if any of you read 2035—which was essentially (((Glukhosvky)) bitching that Russia's leaders wouldn't let the country open itself up to the (((west))) and instead let itself rot away chasing the dream of bygone days where they were once a major world power and half the world was out to get them... or something like that. And the other half is a kind of deconstruction showing how much it would actually suck to live in the Metro and Artyom being both an embittered cynic and hardline idealist thinking anyone in the Metro gave a shit about his problems as they were literally starving to death. But.. it's with Nazis instead for some reason.

Exodus, meanwhile, glossed over all that for a campy road trip story that I swear doesn't have a real plot but I haven't replayed it in so long to be sure. If anything, I'd say it's reflective of the prevailing sentiment at 4agames after finally leaving Ukraine and moving on to bigger and better things in Malta or wherever they ended up.

I want to be hyped for this. I've loved these games since forever and the books as well even if they do get really depressing. But it's like the Ukraine war has activated people's CIA programming to be as absolutely retarted about it as humanly possible. At least the gameplay will still be good, and it's shaping up to be just as scary as Last Light.
 
I'll say ONE positive thing. Least the English VA's are trying to do a Russian accent, unlike STALKER 2 or even Atomic Heart where they didn't even GIVE a fuck.
 
It's been a long time since I played the trilogy but I could swear the games went out of their way to show that the Nazis were le bad not because they were Nazis but because they were a murderous and greedy faction perpetuating the pre-nuking violence, which opposed to the ideas of hope/change that the games pushed. They made a point of showing that the Nazi's and Commie's ideals were just coats of paint over the same evil o algo

It will be absolutely retarded if 2039 forgets the core premise of the older games and fully leans into politics

In third game you will learn that every faction is puppet of Shadow government.
Commies, Nazis, Hansa even Spartans .
And all faction clashes are basically fake and gay. Designed to keep plebs distracted so they will not question current status quo.
Maybe books are different, but imo games feel like every sequel has to retcon/recontextualize previous games to justify continuation of the story.
1 ) Hero Journey in Moscow after Nuclear war . Goal of protagonist is to destroy dangerous mutants.
2) Mutants are Ackshually misunderstood (God I hate that trope) and many are still alive. Main conflict is faction war.
3) I explained in spoiler section why faction war was pointless BS
4) Ackshually minor faction (Nazis ) is real threat and they took over.

They did. In the first game, the Commies shat on other people for being against "progress" and the Nazis shat on people for supposedly being genetically inferior. They're both authoritarian militarists who fight each other over who gets to be king of the ashes while everyone else is just trying to live their lives.

TBF that's the big twist of the first game that Artyom was just too retarted to notice.

E: actually am playing through 2033 right now and the game  really beats you over the head with it and still you canonically kill the Dark Ones. Maybe the book was more subtle, it's been a while since I last read it, but it's pretty comical.

I'm fairly certain in my marathon of the series, I had enough karma points to shoot the missile launcher and still decided not to. You see for yourself they drive everyone around them crazy, whether they want to or not. It's the opening scene of Last Light too. Who cares if they're misunderstood? Even in the good ending of LL, your kind cannot coexist. They fuck off back to their wasteland and stay there, hopefully never to return.

Good thing Exodus had none of that shit. There was the forest level, but that was actually a well done portrayal of a well-meaning hostile group. They don't know shit about you, you're in their territory, they do tell you to leave or they'll shoot, and everyone else they've encountered has been bandits or assholes they've had to put on a poles to make people think twice of fucking with them. I guess there's the superstitious folk, but most of that map was also bandits, and they do leave you alone in the overworld last I checked.

I made sure to moltov those fucking psychic apes at the end of the game and fill their heads with shotgun pellets. Fuck 'em.

Ironically, this plotthread just gets dropped in the books and I wouldn't be shocked if it also gets dropped in this new Metro.
