The latest RogueLite takes a more hack and slash vibe like Hades but throws in a 'level selection' that is extremely reminiscent of Megaman; down to getting the powers of your enemy. Drawback is the main character is essentially 'little girl mecha' but the overall gameplay is very fun. I'd even say the overall presentation is a lot like Dance Dance Revolution with infectious music and a 'grading system' at the end of each battle.
The 'variance' comes from weapon upgrades and core upgrades. Core are basically 'passives' you acquire through out and are timer based. If you reacquire the same ones the core's "upgrade" and throughout the levels you also upgrade your 'supercore' for permanent passives. There are 'drones' which help you out attacking enemies on a timer just like the cores. Weapons exist in three categories: Hammer, Gauntlet, Sword and Shield. You can get weapon upgrades which give you variance of skills such as a Gauntlet that shoots flames as a skill or a Gauntlet that gives you a single One Punch style skill. The general attack combos remain the same but activating 3 cores at once results in the weapon skill gaining a 'powered up form' and combos getting an extra oomph. There's even some random 'minigame' esque moments and non-baseline equipment such as projectile weapons from lasers to grenades with ammo limits. You also have the standard 'upgrade' system for health and a 'hat/armor' system which gives you baseline benefits from added affect to skills to 'Start with X'.
The plot is basically space station is hurtling towards earth and you need to defeat the Rogue Metallic Childs to get their energy and stop the space station. Bit basic but there's a lot of heart given to the random characters you meet which at times are 'too anime' but I don't think it ruins the main game. It's definitely built to appeal to the Tokyo Gamer imo. I've been spending a couple hours a day on it and can see myself following through to the end. I'm partly hoping they add a 'free dlc' with a male bot character and a seperate set of 3 weapons because it would really add to the replayability.
