While PC ports are better than nothing I'm sorely disappointed there wasn't a Steam port of the HD collection.

I've been wanting to revisit the Metal Gear series since it's been almost 9 years since I last played 1-4, but my PS3 is unhooked and while it's not the end of the world, it'd still be a hassle to hook up the console when there's very little beyond the HD collection I want to play on it (pretty disappointed the PS5 is not backward compatible with the PS3 ngl)

I'm hoping the rumors of full on remakes are true and if they are we learn fairly soon about them, as I don't really want a full decade to pass without me replaying some of my all time favorite games.

No, the only lady Mengele for me is the one that'll let me rest my head on her tits as we marathon Cronenberg movies while chatting about "if she could do that at the office" once in a while

Paramedic is by far the most underrated Metal Gear waifu.

Am I the only one that feels like Metal Gear Revengence falls into the "Great Game but bad *insert brand* game" ?
Im obviously not saying that people who disagree with me are wrong to do. Its ultimately my opinion as it is theirs.
I still hold the opinion that, despite its flaws, MGS 4's ending was very powerful, fulfilling and touching. It left no gaps for sequels (with them outright making Snake pass away from accelerated aging after the game). All the snakes are now resting in peace (except Liquid, fuck him)

but then platinum games went and did a game set AFTER 4. I was really not a fan of that. Now, before someone simps for Platinum Games and say it was ultimately Kojima's decision, yes, Im very aware of this and attritube some of the fault to the K-Man as well.
I really feel like Raiden's arc was concluded by time 4 ended, he started as a tool, then became a weapon but finally became the family man he wanted to become. Unlike Snake, Raiden could reproduce (when he was still fully human that is), so he could have a happy ending with wife and kid. Its clear that Raiden wanted to lay down the sword and move on to raise his family.
Now yes, you can say that Raiden coming back into the mercenary game was inevitable because he just couldnt "adapt" back into society and how that fits with big Boss's philosophy even after his death and yada yada. I dont exactly care, it still should have ended there.
I remember watching Mutahar's video on MGS4 and I agree with him almost everywhere but Im with him especially on his thoughts on revengence, that game shouldnt have been set after 4. It ultimately weakened Raiden's ending in 4.

Besides, Im not a fan on just how cartoonish the game is. Now yes, my friends, Im not gonna act like MGS wasnt ever cartoonishly stupid sometimes but I think Revengence really goes overboard with it. It really feels like an anime now, especially with the giant robot slashing and jumping on rockets at the speed of sound. I honestly think that made raiden too OP in this game, but only on cutscenes (unless the game decides otherwise and now he gets his ass kicked), Raiden can still get killed by regular mooks because gameplay. This game truly accepted that nanomachines are basically magic in MGS and now does whatever it wants under the guise that "nanomachines can do it...somehow." Maybe it was inevitable given how they can do whatever they plot needed more and more with each entry. The dialogue also feels like something out of an anime. I really feels like this game follows the Rule of Cool far too much, while MGS always was able to keep a healthy balance between ROC and our suspense of disbelief.

I could go on and on but I just want to conclude that with 4, Raiden got the ending he deserved. His story was concluded.
With revengence, we got a sequel hook that will never be concluded and thus, Raiden's character never truly got the closure he needed. He remains a weapon, just like Solidus wanted. He simply decided to finally embrace it and use it against the system (even tho the whole MGS series was about the fight against the "system")
It feels redundant and inconclusive.

Welp, here comes the negative raitings....
I think it helps that the game is Metal Gear Rising and not Metal Gear Solid. Its enough to let you know its not an integral part of the MGS storyline and can be skipped and exists to be its own thing like say Metal Gear Acid does. I overlooked the game at first because it was such a departure from the MGS games I knew and loved and created a world Solid Snake couldn't survive in. Ultimately I started to judge it on being its own thing and not MGS and it worked for me. It also helps that MGR is in a sort of shady zone in terms of its canon because it takes place in a period where we will never get another MGS game that pushes ahead on the timeline (if we ever get another MGS game at all) so you can still have all the closure you want from MGS 4 and I won't hold MGR over your head and go but Jack's back though.

Raiden in MGS4 had two settings coughing up semen I mean artificial blood and being op as shit. MGR is just taking his scenes where he isn't dying and stretching them out into a full game because it was so bombastic it seemed like it would fun and it was. The game is completely over the top and its self aware which it why it has the charm it does. I definitely agree with you though it is an unnecessary sequel with an even more unnecessary sequel bait ending and only justifies its existence by being a fun game.

While still not being a story that needed to be told I think having an ending that had him returning home and reconciling with Rose would have been more fitting. It would end more or less where it began but would serve as a demonstration that Raiden is still struggling with himself and tested at times but ultimately is capable of overcoming his darker side even if at times he has to depend on it.

Ultimately I think the most important part is that you are completely justified to ignore it and its effect on the ending of MGS 4 and no one has a right to challenge you on it.

You are right, Revengence could have at least redeemed itself (plotwise that is) by ending with Raiden returning to his family after a job well done, so at least we are reassured that his ending in 4 still is preserved, this was just some crazy fun epilogue. I just dislike that they ended on a cliffhanger when it was obvious that a sequel wasnt guaranteed (or maybe it was but then all the fuckery with Konami happened), especially since it implies Jack is off to do MORE fighting, like, dude, just go back to your family and be fucking happy! That was your entire arc!
But yeah, personally MGR isnt canon (tho I obviously respect those that think otherwise). Its just an awesome Cyborg Ninja Anime Power Fantasy game, which Platinum Games love to do (sometimes I have an issue with their plots and characters but their games are still almost always fun). And the memes, music and gameplay are all amazing. And Sam felt the closest to an actual MGS character, with him having hidden depths and agendas related with Raiden and Armstrong.
I just think that MGR lives its own little universe where nanomachines have got to the point they give you near kryptonian invulnerability (yeah, sure, because wolverine healing was that much more "real"). There is no way that sort of tech wont become more common and lead to possible horrific scenarios of indestructable armies.
And you are right, the Snakes just wouldnt thrive in this enviroment, there is no "need" for stealth anymore...and yes, I know you CAN be stealthy in the game, there is simply no point and, if anything, it gives no rewards while being loud and violent pays off way better.
So yeah, MGR is far from my favorite in the series, tho when I shut off my brain and pretend its not a Metal Gear game and just a mindless P.G hack and slash, it does get better.

The issue is that it was his arc. Its heavily implied he gave a normal life a try, but there's not really a whole lot of jobs a full combat cyborg can do that are you know, interesting, and after all he's been through, you just get addicted to adrenaline. There's an old quote about how at a certain point, you find nothing compares to the hunting of armed men, and its almost outright stated that he joined up with Maverick because he couldn't sit around and watch the world go to shit, not after watching all those samurai movies and unironically studying the blade. Yes, he's a shameless samuraiboo. And during his quest to deal with Desperado because they fucked up a country he and Maverick had just gotten out of the usual African murder-fest, finds out they've been running kidnapped children through non-stop VR murder sims to make them into brainwashed murder machines, and does the only sane thing a man can do: snap and start killing everyone for their sheer inhumanity. The poor dude was not the most mentally stable beforehand, and this just pushed him over the edge.

Yeah, but they wrote the plot. So all this crazy shit happening and "forcing" Raiden to return to the soldier/mercenary life was entirely up to the script writers. Of course they're going to bend it so that it justifies Raiden going out and murdering people.

To be fair the whole "Soldier deciding to live a normal life only to go back to soldiering," is a trope that has been a part of almost every Metal Gear Solid game at this point. It's one of those plot elements Kojima naively kept using cause he always wanted to keep ending the series I think. Although you could argue this is some sort of commentary Kojima has been making since Metal Gear 2 if you really wanted to.

You could play all these games on PC through emulation.

The thing is that Raiden keeps saying that himself in the game that cyborgs just can't work a normal job, but Kevin points out to him that more people are looking for cyborgs for more extreme jobs that are not combat related. He even mentions that cyborgs are going into extreme sports and showing what they can do in videos and those getting crazy views. The game is sugesting that Raiden is lying to himself into working for Maverick because inside he is still blood thirsty.

This is a theme backed up by Monsoon's statement to him, which culiminates in Raiden ultimately admitting his ongoing rationalization of why he fights is a load of dogshit, and the real reason he does it is that he can never fully divorce himself from it.

We need a remake of Snatcher.

And before anyone says anything, the game takes place in the same "universe" as Metal Gear.

Konami got a large infusion of cash from a few sources recently. The Turbo Grafix 16/PC Engine being an amazon exclusive was a hit and Sony has apparently given them a few million to either co develop a Metal Gear Trilogy remaster or outright buy the IP from them instead.

So it makes sense that the old shit has started to turn up. Konami also didn't like the spiritual successor kickstarter to suikoden got as much money as it did, so I'm hoping those 5 games(7 counting tactics and the DS game) are the next to be brought back.

They're starting to get back into games again little by little.
Supposedly a new Silent Hill is in development too.

It does if you're talking the original Metal Gear, but I don't think that could be the case past the original considering the "Lucifer Alpha" outbreak in 1996.

But one can still imagine the future of Metal Gear's world being very much like Snatcher.

What I've always wondered is whether or not Zone of The Enders takes place in the same universe as Metal Gear, you could very easily see Orbital Frames as just next generation Metal Gears.

They couldn't pull that off in Ghost Babel unfortunately (lol fucking "fogger")
Had a nice invisible Cig in the opening.

Raiden is just a Travis Touchdown in denile.

when exactly did mgs fans become fucking retards? i feel like even when i was a kid i wouldnt be stupid enough to think this was foreshadowing or a set up for MGS3. especially if i was a hardcore kojima fanboy and knew he made the whole series up as he went along.

those comments make my head hurt. it feels like every time i find an mgs video now its stupid shit like this where people try to find some hidden thing that was never hidden or even a thing. and yet there are always a bunch of people calling a very retarded video quality content.

Shit like that is mostly watched by Gen Z's who weren't even alive when MGS1 was released, what did you expect?
