I just Randy Johnson'd a bird that flew in front of my tranq gun while lining up a headshot. I feel obligated to bring him to the end of the game now.

Damn, yeah I always forget about PC mods. To be honest, since discovering MGO's existence I'm pretty miffed about Delta not doing something similar. The "gaming landscape has changed" excuse is just that, an excuse. If you look up MGO gameplay shit looks really fun, especially Snake's mode. Trading that for what appears to be a simple "hide and seek" mode in Delta isn't very enticing. Meanwhile you can play MGO right now so long as you have RCPS3 and MGS4 on rom. Gotta love the fans doing what billion dollar companies can't/won't.

I remember that glitch in the tournament where if you had CQC2? you could do some grasp/ungrasp/grasp and your PC would be able to walk around and shoot but your physical model would stay where you were grappled. I fucking hated that shit so much.

This reminded me to go check Nexus Mods to see if people had already ported Snake's model to V yet (doesn't look like it). However, Delta already has a mod page and some stuff is there. Alongside the usual performance enhancer mods, there's stuff like:
If we can get proper MGS3 ports to MGSV then this might make this game worthwhile.
I want to daydream that the maps might be portable to some degree but I am guessing the engines are way too different.

Just finished my FOXHOUND run for 100%.

They made it easier to get by letting you have unlimited saves (I assume they did this because of the autosave feature already kinda fucking it). I took advantage of that, but self-imposed challenge runs are probably going to be where the game shines in terms of replayability.

Oh they got rid of the save limit? That'll make it infinitely easier. I got it on the original HD collection.

I'm about a 1/4 the Kerotan/GA KO/Markhor/secret theater film run.

BTW how much do you fucking hate the swimming now? The fact you need to press forward now instead of just mashing X alone. Having you press forward, press X, and steer with the right stick is finger gymnastics this fucking game didn't need. Not to mention you swim slow as fuck in this compared to OG.

As for performance issues, I had very minimal hiccups and ran pretty solid all the way through.

Yeah I immediately noticed how the swimming movement felt slower. I don't really know why they did that, maybe there's some balance thing that I'm not realizing, but off the top of my head I can't really think of a reason for it.

First AAA new game I've torrented in a long while but I'm not paying again for a game I've bought 2 or 3 times. It's the same fucking game but glitchy shimmering and frame drops to take you out of the experience, and a really basic crappier version of the MGS5 movement. I would have expected some quality of life shit like being able to take codecs during gameplay like MGS5 or a few less loading screens but for better or worse they seriously just copied almost every load zone and exact terrain rather than make some bigger worlds with the new engine they're given.

They made a lot of strange decisions, you can change camo during gameplay which is nice, but you still can't eat food or cure without going to the menu? You still have to equip a max of 8 weapons/items even though they probably have the power to just have it all on one menu now? Why can't you shoot while on your back, why does the diving feel so much clunkier than MGS5?

It's just the same fucking game with a lot of the same flaws that should have been ironed out for an absolute insane premium, how the fuck do people keep buying these? How hard is it for cunts to just make an actually new video game.

I did find one aspect that people are decrying in terms of the change.

It is canon that Eva has implants and I hear those can be quite rigid. They're probably more realistic now but I don't have much experience on the matter and I'm confident this poster doesn't either.

You can shoot while on your back. Prone, aim and turn around. The limited loadout is for the equipment weight mechanic, you can see how much your current inventory weighs in the menu and it will affect Snakes stamina consumption.

I agree with you on the menu inconsistencies. The fact they changed very little is a divisive, many people just want remakes to be the exact same game but look nicer and have QOL improvements, and many others want new things added and bigger changes like what you've mentioned. No remake can satisfy both unfortunately. At least you have the option to get it for free if you aren't happy with it.

The more I play, the more I yearn for the Fox engine. You're right that V played better, this feels like a suboptimal compromise between the two.

e: Completely unrelated, I went and checked Delta's Nexus Mods page again and found another interesting mod: Recoded Movies (20% of original size). "This mod compresses game video cutscenes, tutorials, secret theater videos, which in uncompressed form take up 20.80 gigabytes. Thanks to this mod, the movies folder will be compressed 5 times smaller to 4.43 gigabytes (...) I didn't change the video file resolution or fps. Everything remained in it's original form. Only the lowest possible bitrate was used to maintain good video quality. The visual flaws is slightly noticeable."

I'm on the same boat, i have the game for PS2, PS3, 3DS and Vita, i have played it multiple times and i wasn't really too hyped for the remake. Not because i don't think remakes are inherently bad, but i think half of the fun with MGS is the story, specially in games prior to TPP.
I torrented the game, it's more of a remaster than a remake, most of the game's mechanics are the same as in the PS2 game but with pretty graphics, which i don't hate because i love the original game, but it doesn't make sense for me to buy it when i already have all the games. I think MGS 2 ~ 4 have aged so well that it really shows how soulless the remake is, in a way. It's just a graphical overhaul, there's not enough SUBSTANCE to it. Also, the game's camera made some of the fights way too easy, i remember the first time playing MGS 3 i had to actually try a bit to fight Ocelot in the first boss fight, now it felt almost trivial, but maybe that's because of the different camera between Snake Eater and Subsistence on the PS2, so i can't really say.

Yeah, idk. I'm glad this remake exists, i hope they don't remake any more games. Make a new fucking game without Kojima, you could probably even PAY Kojima to be an "advisor" (aka pay him to use his name in the promo). My DREAM is a prequel with The Boss where we learn more about the Philosopher's Legacy, the beginning of the Cobra Unit, the Patriots etc.

I'm pretty sure it is very heavily rumored that an MGS1 remake has been in development for a couple years now, or at least is the next project after Delta. If anything, what they really should be remaking are the MSX games.

I'd hope the pipeline is something like Delta --> Master Collection Vol2 --> MGS1 remake --> MSX MG1/2 remakes --> if all are successful financially and critically, probably a Metal Gear Solid 6 after 'earning back fan trust'.

So like the game seems to be running fine for me on PC, but during the opening cutscenes sound kept cutting in and out...

I feel like I dealt with something similar with Oblivion Remastered and it eventually went away. Is this just a weird UE5 thing or what?

I honestly feel like newcomers are missing out by playing the game in that order if they just go with the remakes. You really can't beat playing 1, 2, 3, 4 in order, they really work well to show you the story of Big Boss, Solid Snake, Ocelot etc.
Anyway, i'm a bit biased because i actually LIKE Twin Snakes and, if they remake 1 they are probably gonna do some stuff closer to Twin Snakes than the original (like the camera), so i'm gonna be a bit annoyed by people cock sucking the remake of 1 when most actively talked shit on Twin Snakes for being goofy - despite the fact that Metal Gear is shameless about some of it's goofy aspects, like Eva doing a backflip on a motorcycle in front of Ocelot's face and then fucking off back to Volgin, which is hilariously over the top.

If they remake all the original games before making 6, then newcomers are gonna be the ones buying them, i'm not spending a cent on these remakes despite of how good they look because i already know what's going to happen.

Didn't have any issues with the cutscenes, if you torrented it try to see if people have the same issues with the repack. The game is playable, but performance IS all over the place. Granted, i have a 4060, but i'm only playing at 1080p, i don't think the game looks THAT GOOD to justify going below 60 so often (actually, most of the time it's below 60 if you're playing with everything on Ultra/High, those fucking shadows kill performance).

I thought the goofiness was a bit excessive in Twin Snakes, but I liked the lonely aesthetics. It was like a MGS2 facelift over the bones of MGS1. And the OST was good. I'd rather play it than the PS1 version.

Completed the ga ko, kerotan, markhor and secret theater run. I'll do Foxhound next and just go back to casual playthroughs.

The AT camo/Ghillie suit is pretty interesting. It takes whatever camo you got on and more or less puts it all the way up to 95% no matter where you're at and it doesn't affect rank.

So I went back and did a third playthrough taking it slow, watching all the cutscenes, using the codec to call up the support team at decently regular intervals etc. while I took the time to get all the Secret Theater tapes that I missed on the first playthrough. I hadn't spoiled myself on Delta's three new secret theaters so I watched them completely blind. I wanna talk about the second one, it's called "Granin Rising" and the gag is he replaces Volgin in a cutscene, shenanigans ensue. The main thing that caught my eye though, is at the end of it, where a name card shows up with the name of the tape seen below:

Am I schizophrenic or is this really a reference to MGR:R's logo with the lightning motif & font? I'd discount this as a random throwaway thing in any other circumstance, but Platinum literally developed an entire side minigame for this remake, soooo... I wonder if they're actually considering another MGR.

e: Also, I just finished Snake vs Monkey. I was kinda underwhelmed with the fact Astro Bot isn't like, actually well-hidden in the maps. It was trivial to find him each time to get the Gold Banana Cap 'bonus reward', to the point I genuinely don't think anyone could've even possibly missed getting him first try.

Pretty shit remake so far. I guess you can technically play it on the Deck if you don't mind the game looking like ass. The game's peformance is acceptable on my desktop but it's UE5 so it crashes without fail about every 2 hours just like the Robocop games that have come out recently.

For whatever reason they opted to use the crappy overhead camera in legacy mode instead of the much better one in Subsistence. Modern mode has that camera but comes with its own problems though with its bizarre remapped buttons and the ground zeros style aiming that doesn't mesh with MGS3 at times. It's annoying they nerfed the cigarette spray tranquilizer in that it carries less ammo and just flat out doesn't work half the time now. About half the new gravure model posters are lame and are mostly the girl's smiling face with almost none of their body in frame.

I'm cruising through the game despite playing on hard since I know the tricks to beating all of the bosses. Just finished off the Fear and getting ready to deal with the End at the beginning of my next session. I played through the entirety of the Master Collection version of 3 on my Steam Deck in preparation for the remake and it really is just a shot for shot redo using the exact same mocap data. I'm glad I only paid 60 for a steam key of the deluxe edition cause this definitely won't go on to become the definitive edition of MGS3. Apparently the game has already been cracked anyway so this will be forgotten within a month just like that shitty remake of Silent Hill 2.
