Anyway, here's the best way to adapt the Metal Gear saga to a live action property: Rule 63.
  • It differentiates it automatically from the original in every discussion, forestalling nerd rage.
  • You can keep all the fanservice; anyone who complains is welcome to note the skin-tight suit and mullet are exactly the same on Dave Snake as on Diane Snake. This fights smug normie criticism.
  • Actresses are generally less expensive, older ones for an ensemble cast especially.
  • Helen Mirren has a sense of humor and could rule as Ocelot.

Mark my words, it's gonna be Pedro Pascal and it'll be shit.
It will be shit no matter what, like 99% of video game movies.

I've always found it odd that Kojima cultists say that if Kojima doesn't direct Metal Gear, it isn't Metal Gear...up until it's a fucking movie. Then any literal fucking who can direct it.

It doesn't really matter though, I'm pretty sure the movie will never be made. Nobody gives enough of a shit to make it anymore. Kojima seems like he wants to completely distance himself from Metal Gear Solid at this point, and Avi Arad is making too much fucking money on Spider-Verse movies, and on the off chance he wants to do something besides that, he'd probably focus on The Legend of Zelda movie after the Super Mario movies success.

Good. He would've been a shitty Solid Snake and the film would've been a disaster if he was ever in it
The problem is that Oscar Issac literally got the role because in some interview he was like "I like Metal Gear, I'd be in that movie." and they said "What role?" and he was like "...Snake?"

Which means that now Snake will probably be played by the most recent actor who showed interest in the film.

You know who that was?

Anthony Mackie

Wtf, are you 30 years old?
Huh, crazy old man.
Yep. Just a boomer that also happens to be a doomer that wants to go back to the positive things before 2010s. To use this quote from MGS4, "time flies real fast." :sigh:

Well since I found this thread. As much as I enjoy the MGS series I have to say it. Kojima is a bit overrated and I feel like people suck his nuts a bit too much.
That's it. I do have more venting and sperging to do but I'll hide that shit behind a spoiler for anyone that doesn't want to nor care to read it since it's more or less just me being autistic.

Overall though, I still think my favorite is Metal Gear Solid 1 and I don't think anything will change that. Metal Gear Solid 3 being a close second.

His recent work has been pretty lame imo. It's so bizarre when I see my friends continuing to suck his nuts being like "Yo dude! Death Stranding was amazing!" like you mean the fucking amazon prime delivery driver simulator game? Sorry but I thought it was boring as shit.

I searched the name and was shocked nobody on the site has mentioned it yet. (Unless the search function was being garbage, not sure.) so I guess I'll seemingly be the first to talk about it here. Apparently Kojima is doing a spiritual successor to MGS called "Physint" apparently it began development after he had a health scare in 2020 that for some reason made him decide he wanted to listen to his fans I guess??? Either way again given Kojima's recent track record I don't have high hopes for it already, especially since in the interview he said and I quote "However, if your mother walks in and sees you playing this game, she’ll think you’re watching a movie." which is already pretty telling. He TRIES to assure it will still be a game but remember, Death Stranding was technically a game too. And so was MGS4. And me I enjoyed MGS4 but I do accept it probably had a very terrible cutscene to gameplay ratio.
Only time will tell whether it'll be a real game or just Kojumbo making a movie again and calling it a video game. Can't be any worse than Amazing Prime Delivery Simulator I guess.

Also since this has turned into somewhat of a vent post since if you dare criticize Kojimbles anywhere else you get dogpiled I might as well bring it up too, MGS2 is overrated as hell and I honestly never got the hype around the AI conversation or whatever. Maybe I'm just too much of a simpleton or too secure in who I am as a person that it just didn't affect me that much. I dunno. I liked MGS2 btw I just feel like people filate it a bit too much.

Also MGSV while imo has the best gameplay in the series was ultimately a totally unnecessary game that didn't really need to exist and doesn't really tell us anything we didn't already know or needed to know. I think the only major plot reveal it even has is revealing how Big Boss was able to die in Metal Gear for the MSX and come back in Metal Gear 2 and honestly I don't think anyone really cared or questioned it to begin with. MGS's story has kinda just been played out at this point. And they're too scared to continue Raiden's story it seems but there's nothing left for them to milk out of Solid or Big Boss at this point. I'm fine with Metal Gear dying. I'm honestly just glad they managed to give Solid a satisfying send-off before Konami could fuck it all up.

Oh also the cope surrounding MGSV around the time after release was pretty funny. It's incredibly obvious the game was unfinished and Konami basically rushed Kojima to get it done resulting in an entire final chapter and final boss being cut. But no guys, you don't understand it was all intentional! The story is about the hollowness of revenge guys! It's not unfinished you just don't get it! It's meant to be unsatisfying! Still cracks me up to think about it.

Uhhh, I think that's about it. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talks.

Tl;dr: I sperg a bit but also have you heard about Physint?

According to a recent interview it's going to be a spiritual successor to Metal Gear or so Kojima says anyway and the search function for the name gave me no results so I figured I'd mention it here.
I personally don't have high expectations for it.

People actually said this? In my remembering people hated V and its dumb retcons/plot holes/the asspull that's Skull Face. Kojima fans would often say he was overworked throughout its creation and it was Konami's last cash grab before they booted him. Exaggerated wailing, lots of teeth gnashing.

Really? I saw more 50/50 from my experience. Half of it was people doing what you were saying and the other half were people huffing copium, insisting that it was all part of the plan and that it was meant to be this way.

Everyone blames konami but the reason he was fired was because it took too long to make and was way too expensive to make. The keifer sutherland thing is a red flag of bad priorities. Also the gameplay is blatantly unfinished, I'm not talking about the dlc chapter that was planned as a later addition I mean like enemies can't walk around the open world, they can't leave the bounding area of outposts so sniping is overpowered because they can't fight back and if you carry a ko'd soldier to the middle of the map their ai just kinda breaks.

There's far less tools than peace walker had, theres no coop and there's no reason for the weapon research system because guards don't get more hp or stun guage as you play and only a handful of weapons are useful against bosses. Meanwhile the weapon customization system doesn't do anything because 99% of parts are cosmetic and the few that do change stats don't change anything meaningful. There's no melee system the knife was added to MGO years after launch but not brought into the base game even though cqc has been a core element of the series since 1 (yes I know 3 really fleshed it out). Speaking of MGO there's tons of items in it that never got backported, the plushies which were a <18 way of handling magazines, the fulton canon was a mine trap that fultoned people. Also features that were advertised like coop base invasions never made it into the game. All of this compiled into repetitive infiltrate, tranq, fulton, extract missions with no enemy variety, no scaling difficulty and a lot of the systems not really paying off in any way. Why can't I use any of the animals I get? Where' the digital camera they showed off in trailers? Where's the steam box they showed in trailers? was that just for the ad? If so where's all the cool boxes we had in peace walker? How come the game about being in the wilderness is lacking all the survival mechanics of 3 and doesnt even have a proper health system?
