Nobody ever mentios that might be Kyle Reese pose, but that is 100% Don Johnsons face.

I'm just glad Koji's gone, because his specific brand of Hollyjew Worship would only be detrimental/insufferable in a new Metal Gear. The second he lost his best military jargon writer who cleaned up his scripts, it was over and the hack was let loose.
Can you explain who the writer was and when he left Konami?

Tomokazu Fukushima, writer of MGS 1-3 and a few of its spin offs. He left sometime after mgs3 since that was his last credit under Konami. Checks out since mgs4 is considered the point where kojima was let off his leash
I know you have a hate boner for Kojima, but Fukushima didnt write the games. he was the mainly the line-writer and the codec script writer for the games. his only real writing credit is Metal Gear Ghost Babel. oh I guess who also wrote the novel version of Natasha supposedly wrote for Philantrophy.

Kojima and along with Murata was responsible for the Metal Gear games' writing, though Murata was always uncredited as the writer, even Murata was uncredited even though he took a co-director role for MGS4.

I suggest that people go back and try to play old Konami games like Snatcher, Policenauts. Kojima's style of storytelling in those games are very similar to MG and MGS games. You just want "operators operating operationally" and get angry at Kojima for not delivering what you want despite that is not really his style of games

HOLD UP, this guy was also the writer and director of the Snake Tales scenarios! Jesus Christ, this puts a lotta shit in perspective.

And those sweet little words: Setting Design/Research/ Justification.

This guy is HIM.

Oh, yeah, it's not like the codec had the most lines in the games, set up a lot of the backstory and lore and was the main delivery of the exposition or anything...

I know you people want to make a boogeyman out of Kojima and hail Fukushima like a god that saved MGS, but its not. this is not a case like Shinji Mikami being credited on how good Resident Evil is, but the real one that saved the story was Kenichi Iwao

Tomokazu Fukushima (writer, script unit)
“While the system employed by cinema and literature is closed to spectators, video games as a medium employ an open system that assumes interaction from the user. There seems to be a misunderstanding that the two systems can be fused when faced with the illusion of “the realization of narrative”, but since essential differences exists between them, their possible expressions differ and on top of that, their effective crafts are also different. In Metal Gear Solid, we tried to express things that are not only suitable for a video game, but can only be expressed in a video game. For example, when talking to Master Miller or Nastasha Romanenko, it seems that their vast amount of knowledge of survival techniques and nukes respectively don’t contribute much to the game at a first glance. But in reality each element behaves in an emergent manner as they are calculated and created in a matter that contributes to Metal Gear Solid as a whole work.”
  • Codename: Fusshi
  • Joined the Kojima Group on May 1997
  • Became part of the Metal Gear Solid team on July 1997
  • Joined at the last minute to write the [Japanese] voiceover script.
  • Kojima on Fukushima: “After the plot was decided, I had Fukushima helped me out on writing the script for the voiceovers. The harsher terms in the script, such as 父殺し/chichikoroshi (patricide) and 怯懦と蛮勇/kyōda to ban’yū (bravery and cowardice) were his contributions.

How was the procedure of writing a script with Mr. Kojima?
“I actually took part in Metal Gear Solid 2 after Ghost Babel ended development, which I wrote the script for. By that point Mr. Kojima had already written a rough draft of the scriptment [Note:A term coined by James Cameron as a portmanteau of “script” and “treatment”. In Kojima’s case, a scriptment is an overly detailed game design document that covers all sorts of aspects such as plot outline, game features, level designs, specifications, ect. Every game directed by Kojima since MGS1 has had a scriptment written for it.]. From there on we started transferring files to a PC based on that scriptment. We would correct each other by writing amendments directly into the scriptment using differently colored texts and writing down the reason for the change. We made around 20 or so revisions.”
How was the work divided between you two?
“While there were some parts that were edited by the both of us, but if I’ll be bold to say it, all the real-time cutscenes were written primarily by Mr. Kojima, as well as all the mandatory CODEC calls. I was assigned to writing all the optional CODEC. We ended up creating around 2,500 files.”

In short, Fukushima was basically was the flavor text writer for MGS games. Kojima and Murata already has written everything and Fukushima was mainly involved in making the story appear grittier by putting in the flavor text.

Its easy to misattribute the good parts of MGS writing to him, since he really isnt a talkative guy like Iwao, also contributing the fact that MGS4 and V story is worse, but Fukushima didn't write the stories. He was mainly tasked with the optional codec convos and putting the gritty military terms that the normal Japanese wouldn't know.

Really, just play Kojima's Snatcher and Policenauts. Kojima's writing was always been like this.

People underestimate how much of a group project a MGS game is, the original ending of MGS4 that Kojima wanted had Snake and Otacon being executed for their crimes, but the team protested and changed to that corny ending that we got.

"One of my ideas [for MGS4's ending] was that, since Snake and Otacon are breaking the law in order to fulfill their justice, I was thinking of having them turn themselves in, and for the sake of justice, they'd get convicted and executed by the law," he explained. "But all of my staff went against the idea, so I decided not to go with that."

Saying that MGS4 or V is bad because of this or that guy isn't really the reason why these games are divisive, it is more of that fact that Kojima was getting tired of working on MGS and wanted to do something else. That is specially apparent with V and how it changed drastically the way the story is told, a lot of story elements in older games are crystal clear on some of the conflicts, but in V it is all ambiguous and consistent with the character Venom that in the original Metal Gear is portrait as a liar.

Kurt Russell did an interview with GQ, and the interviewer actually asks him about being asked to do voicework in Metal Gear Solid. Kurt doesn't confirm it (I get the impression he honestly doesn't remember) but basically gives his reasoning to why he wouldn't have/doesn't do stuff like that.
