I probably haven't watched YongYea since MGS V came out

Do people actually hire that retard to voice act now? In english?
He voices Kiryu Kazuma in the English dub of Yakuza/Like a Dragon (main character of the franchise).

Though I personally can't attest to his voice acting. I play the games with Japanese audio.

I'll have to remember that

I'm starting to think I should make it a rule not to play games that feature Youtubers.
Any game that features appearances by Twitch streamers, YouTubers or other e-celebs from other social platforming sites is an immediate red flag for me

I do recommend the Yakuza games. They're very good open-world fighting games, with a locust's swarm of side content.

YongYea's voice acting isn't in most games, as the earlier games are in Japanese, and the ones he's in have an option for English/ Japanese audio. All games have English subtitles/game UI.

But anyways, I don't wanna derail the thread with Yakuza sperging.

Kojima: "Don't you get it!? YOU ARE BIG BOSS!! DID YOU RIKE IT!?"

No Kojima, I didn't rike it one bit. I wanted Big Boss to be Big Boss you prick.

P.S. I also didn't rike Meryl marrying that pants shitter Johnny. What the fuck were you thinking you big dummy
i think the point was ey look at big boss, the utter cool badass mercenary hero-bad guy. in reality he was a scumbag who betrayed everything he believed in by making this no name asshole impersonate him. this of course fucks up the continuity of mg1 and 2 but specially fucks up mgs4 were everyone is gushing 24:7 how cool was big boss and how much of a fucking loser solid is.
kojima has been a shit writer forever and without tardwrangling or stealing things for better media he falls on his ass.

Honestly, I think the idea is there but Kojima completely fucked it up and never elaborated on it.

It could've been Venom Snake does all this badass shit between 84-95, and Big Boss takes all the credit for it, because he's a narcissistic asshole who has his own cult-of-personality with The Patriots and MSF.

But that idea was never used, or even thought of. The only reason Venom Snake exists is to explain how Big Boss survived being blown to smithereens in MG1.
And as @xXx: State of the Union pointed out earlier, Kessler mentions a rumor about Big Boss using cybernetics to survive.

how that works in mgs4 when the entire fucking point is how big boss - zero fucking it all up because how they interpreted the boss will

If that was Kojimas intention, he must have the biggest case of BPD in gaming because he never seemed to be able to decide if he wanted Big Boss to be a bad guy or not.

It doesn't even really work well also because Big Boss had absolutely nothing to do with Venom outside of just being like "Okay, I guess this is a thing."

Zero is the one who did everything behind Project V. It wasn't like it was Big Boss idea to brainwash him. I guess The Truth kind of sets it up so that Big Boss didn't stop the plastic surgery? I can't remember exactly, but The Truth timeline doesn't add up or make sense anyways.

It doesn't help that the entire ending of MGS4 is Big Boss being all sad about fucking things up, and then Peace Walker explicitly retcons this so that he had minimal hand in Patriot shit, and ends up explicitly saying "Fuck The Boss will" at the end of the game and becoming his own fucking person.

Kojima really couldn't figure out WTF he wanted to do with Big Boss after MGS3, which is fucking weird because it all seemed pretty laid out if you can read between the lines at a 3rd grade reading level.

A good fix/completion for MGSV would have been to have DLC/semi-sequel that just answers "what was Big Boss doing while he had a substitute watching the class?"

There's a whole lot of stuff ascribed to the figure of Big Boss, so it'd definitely make sense that he's in two places at once, and it could have just been Actual BB doing missions, but in different environments, and without base management, and maybe he has the Asshole Slider dialed up and puts cigars out on people's arms more. There could be some good fucked-up codec calls between BB and Venom where he gives V creepy pep talks/"remember we're the same guy, a Legend, so do what I say and don't think about becoming self-aware OK bye," or BB falling out of besties with Zero et al over the actual phone and not in handwaved backstory, or BB going on about his wack-ass philosophy while Ocelot oils his revolvers.

I dunno, that seems pretty obvious but that's the problem with auteurs. David Lynch does better when there's someone financing him on the set, someone who can sit back during lesbian dimension-hopping but jump in to say "wait a minute, is this a real hobo in atmospheric lighting or a demon hobo, because a demon hobo is one step too far."

I would've loved for something showing what happens between 84-95.
The whole "Big Boss descent into becoming evil villain" thing was pretty undercooked in MGSV. Something taking place after 1984 could've helped with that.

This is actually how I took the ending. That basically "Real Big Boss went and met Sniper Wolf, reconnected with Gray Fox, fought in all those conflicts, started Outer Heaven and then went to Command Fox Hound while Venom ran Outer Heaven"

But then all the Kojima cultists said I was a retard and Venom actually did everything *shrug*

That was pretty much my take too. They're the same guy but also not, so it makes sense that you have the one who's literally made to keep up appearances stay home running the base, and then transplanted to the new base when appropriate.

Meanwhile Actual BB is leatherdaddying around on his bike, kickin' some ass, networking, being impressive and gruff in 1:1 meetings, going with a realtor to check out the acreage at Tselinoyarsk. Probably scooped Li'l Sniper Wolf off of the battlefield and eventually left her back with Venom who does seem to have a more child-friendly environment going on.

If they'd done a Big Boss' Gap Year Adventures DLC, it would have been neat if at one point you had to keep some ninjas away from a suburban home. Then the house turns out to be the current foster home of Dave Snake and there's a little through-the-binoculars cutscene of him climbing a tree or petting a dog in a box fort or something. Fuckin' Zero and his dumb ideas, but at least this clone is quieter and doesn't have the dumb accent. Anyway, time to eat a squirrel and snap some dudes' necks.

the correct thing is ignore everything after mgs3 and use the canon of mgs1. yeah jack was a nice dude who went fucking evil because he was upset how soldiers are mere pawns

"But then we never learn who the Patriots are!" screams the Kojima cultists, without even realizing that the entire story of MGS3 establishes who the Patriots are and how they were funded.

No, I'm 100% in agreement with you. It always pissed me off how many people claimed that the mysteries needed to be explained when MGS3 clearly explained everything that mattered.

Hell, saying it out loud, I think I understand why Kojima stopped giving a shit.

I'm seeing people ask "Why did Big Boss go evil", and by that I assume they mean Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land. Wasn't it obvious enough after Ground Zeroes? Powers that be will never tolerate an entity like MSF, so Big Boss is forced to literally hijack a nation all to himself, nuclear deterrents and all. Is this evil? I dunno, were MSF evil? Is Military Industrial Complex evil? I don't think there is "bad guys" on the battlefield and in war as much as "targets".
Either way, what I am pissed about is how Big Boss came back in MGS4, when it would have made so much more sense for him to just die at the end of Metal Gear 2, and all that for memberberries. I actually don't mind Kojima's writing for the most part, but MGS4 was so mind numbingly retarded that I refuse to consider it canon, so many characters fall apart or are character assassinated in that game that it's ridiculous and that's not even mentioning the paper thing narrative. Skip MGS4 after MGS2 and skip straight to Reveangence and aside from the Patriot AI thing that goes down in 4 never being mentioned or explained, the latter feels like a more natural sequel(especially as the last leg of MGS2 is all about CQC swordfighting, and that's what MGR is entirely focused on, a natural progression from Raiden being a Solid Snake impersonator to becoming his own man and warrior)
