the last good game he made was mgs4 and even then he was getting full indulgent. PW and MGS5 are legit trash games. But still im a little sad that he will never make another metal gear again. Death Stranding is legit retarded.
Kojima was really up his own ass Post-MGS3. I thought MGS4 was garbage, personally. PW sucked. MGSV is a great game gameplay-wise, but the story (what story lmao) is pretty dogshit. I think Death Stranding is kinda shitty.

IIRC, Kojima had a guy who was also writing called Fukushima. Fukushima disappeared with basically no explanation after MGS3.
You can always tell when a Kojima fanboy came in with MGS4, because they always point out his other writers were "the codec" writers, failing to realize that the codecs were like 75% or more of all dialogue in MGS-MGS3.

It also can't be stated enough just how much the translator/localizer improved MGS1 to Kojimas complete annoyance.

Not to mention the old stories about how Cyborg Ninja wasn't even in the original story for MGS1 until Shinkawa showed Kojima the design and he decided to rewrite the story to fit him in. And how Kojima wanted Snake to be a 50 something year old dandy in MGS and everyone told him that idea was stupid as fuck so he changed it.

It's obvious as all hell that Kojima worked better when he actually listened to and worked with people who told him his ideas were shit and how to improve them, but then fanboys had to give him a God complex and it all went to shit the further along he went.

Edit: Final point, the one concession we know he made to his team with MGS4 was not to have the ending being Snake and Otacon turning themselves in and facing execution for "being terrorists" through Philanthropy. Big Boss being alive the whole time and getting a final smoke with Snake is the kind of Sony daddy issue garbage we all cringe at today, but was infinitely better than "so the heroes get killed for being heroes"

The ending to MGS4 was just trash. Big Boss comes along and just spends like 20 minutes explaining lore to Solid Snake before dropping dead next to The Boss' grave which Solid Snake was at for.. some fucking reason. I know the series was full of these exposition slideshows before MGS4, but fuck me. Still better than Snake and Otacon getting executed by the UN.

I kind of like the idea of that ending.
It doesn't make sense with the rest of the game as presented, IMO.

I find it hard to believe he completely re wrote the game to accommodate it.

I can almost imagine his team was like "They turn themselves in to be executed? That's gay!" and he was like "...What if Snaksu just kirrs himserf?" and they were like "What the fuck?" and he was like "Fine, I justa have Biggu Bossu show up arive and exprain everything!" out of spite and his team just realized that was the best they would get and sighed and went back to work.

Kojima fucking HATED the spanish dub.

"Please Kojima, we just want to go hom-"
"And then Big Boss shows up and explains to Solid Snake half of the lore of the 5 other games in the series, and then-!"

The fuck does Kojima smoke to come up with stories of MGS4 onwards, and where can I get some? The stories in MGS onward were batshit insane already, but it got cranked up to 11 with MGS4.

Here's a weird rant or something from me

I hate when Kojima fanboys say MGS1 is bad because of stuff like Snake saying "Five Five Sixers and Pineapples" because "that's not what real military people would say."

Hey faggots, that's much more likely to come out of a hardened military man than the endless amounts of high school angsty whining and crying Big Boss does about The Boss throughout the last half two thirds of the series.

Yes, you have to make the story non garbage.
Maybe it could've been done well, idk. I think Snake living the rest of his life in peace is a better ending.
He was already about to end it at MGS4 and he wouldn't live much longer IIRC. In MGS2 he and Otacon already knew they were doing some serious shit, why not have his day in court and expose all of this? If done right it could tie up the thing about no place for old men soldiers.

I could accept Snake doing it since he's going to die anyways.

Not Otacon though. That's fucking stupid. He has plenty to live for, most of all Sunny.

1. Presumably his team would also have the comedy Japanese accent here

2. This is the problem with auteurs when they have success. After a certain level of fame/finance, they lose that real-world pressure from the backers/the studio/their collaborators. Sometimes you end up with greatness from a weird dude given free rein, sometimes they end up up their own ass instead. Kojima seems to be one of the ones who needs a wrangler.

Otacon could have gone in believing in justice, greater justice, the greater good and ideals. But I'm mostly building from MGS2 impressions. And I really don't think the UN would execute them, that would be tone deaf beyond belief. Maybe beat them to death with dildos or try to sanction them but no more than that.

Maybe a few dozen harshly worded letters?

I remember playing that at like 10 and sperging about it to everyone I knew, I spent a month on the tanker level because I was retarded
It took me three tries to get into that game. The control scheme was and is so weird.

The problem is the first 3 games were so good because he had a good military writer chick who covered for his stupider ideas. But then she got fired the quality dropped significantly.

There was a whole interview she did on him that got sued to be taken down. It was pretty wild. I think razorfist did a whole video on it.

Speaking of controls, I remember portable ops being fucked. The little disc thing the psp had was movement but the dpad was the camera control so you had to do a weird crab pinch maneuver to work it. I do remember it working better than it sounds

I think that's more of the case of Kojima's co-writer, Tomokazu Fukushima, making sure the story is at least coherent, though the translators are also a big help in that regard. Fukushima would later disappear after Mgs3 which paved the way for Mgs4 turning out the way it did storywise. The writer chick was the translator for Mgs2 while Mgs1 had Jeremy Balustein.
