The Metal Gear Solid fanbase and the Metal Gear Rising fanbase are two separate entities to me. There is some overlap consisting of people who just love Raiden.
 
I love raiden, but MGS2 was my first game and I played it when I was like.. 14 or something so that helped. Also this was post MGS4 trailer so I knew he was gonna be a badass later on.

I like the rest of the series, but Rising just hits something for me that the rest of the series doesn't. It's a spin-off and a completely different type of game, so it makes sense that it would have its own fanbase that isn't very into the rest of the series. It's not even about Raiden (although I do like Raiden best in MGRR), but the gameplay style and presentation.

I bet some of that has to do with the fact that until the releases of the older games comes out in a couple of months Rising is the only Metal Gear game on Steam. Well 5 is there as well but it doesn't have the reputation Rising does. Most people refuse to use emulators so there's no easy way for them to play the older games so they're stuck with Rising/MGS5 until then.
 
mgs and rising are very different games with different atmospheres so i get why some would like one and not the other. i think people also might be cautious about getting into a ~5 game series rather than just the one

The main series is much more slow paced while MGR is a fast paced action game. Naturally people will only like one or the other, unless you like both.

I remember playing that at like 10 and sperging about it to everyone I knew, I spent a month on the tanker level because I was retarded

the last good game he made was mgs4 and even then he was getting full indulgent. PW and MGS5 are legit trash games. But still im a little sad that he will never make another metal gear again. Death Stranding is legit retarded.
