twin snakes was actually what introduced me to the metal gear series and thus forth captivated me

mgs2 had vamp, naked twinks, and homoerotic cock groping of said twink. it's enough for me.
anyways monsoon has been living rent free in my head and i need to expel the retardation before it takes over the rest of my brain. i can't wait until monsoon monday but i'll have something for that by then i bet.

In MGS2 it was utilitarian cock groping: the President only knew about Olga and was trying to solve the age-old question: twink or butch?

The homoerotic crotch-grab was in MGS3: it was a friendly greeting between two dudes being bros and not (initially) an attempt to identify Snake in disguise.

it's homosexual and erotic to me. it's close enough

It's only gay if you get a boner, dude.
Joke's on you; Volgin was canonically bisexual.

Metal Gear does their queer representation right, especially in MGS3. There's not just one token gay to tick off a checkbox. You've got your meowing cowboy disaster Cluster B twink, your regular sugar baby twink, and your seven-foot-tall predatory bisexual with lightning powers. That's a meaningful commitment to diversity.

they have a man who fucked a guy AND THEN HIS DAUGHTER AS SOON AS HE DIED
THAT'S SOME FUCKING INTER GENERATIONAL CUCKING
okay maybe it wasn't official but i think it's hilarious

I mean, some people just have a type, you know?

It's reverse of that pickup line: baby, I'd suck your dad's dick just to get a taste of the recipe.

Don't forget Volgin was likely powerbottoming for Raidenovich given his remarks about how well he knew his lover's dick after he crotch-grabbed Big Boss.

Fire Astronaut >>>>>>>>> Fat Guy On Rollerskates
Fire Cosmonaut; fat guy on rollerblades.

I like The Fury but it's pretty nice how Fatman is roller blading around with an adult beverage in his hand, completely unconcerned with the Patriots, just here to mess with Stillman and to have a good time.

That line about"the best humanity has to offer, and also its worst" or whatever was pretty dank too

Was Big Boss' story defined and known prior to MGS3? Like, I don't know, written in some sort MGS bible or something? Or he was still treated as a unknown figure from the early Metal Gear games that was somehow related to Solid/Liquid Snake?

I'm asking this because nowadays you have the entire franchise available and you can play and learn about BB's origins in detail, but was this character well developed, even before MGS3 or his backstory was defined from that game onwards?

Sorry if mentioned already but has anyone had trouble playing MGS3 on the ps3 store version of the HD collection? Cutscenes are freezing and jumping, but the audio plays as normal up until it crashes.

As far as I remember, Big Boss was pretty much just Sean Connery insert and he died for good in MG2. Everything past MGS1 is a retcon, of which the franchise is full of.

I'm pretty sure they're all chronological sequels in the sense that you play as Raiden's brain in a jar or whatever (Raiden might not be a single dude) being subjected to VR brainwashing, so trying to put together a historical canon with the tech or characters or whatever is just gonna be frustrating unless you take a really meta approach.

MGS4 made no sense until PW/V (which were planned together as "5") came out. I kind of like it now but the level of autism necessary to piece everything together is a pretty brutal thing to expect of an audience.
IIRC, in Metal Gear Ghost Babel, which is supposed to be a non-canon "what if" story, in the VR mode the player is referred to as Jack, implying the whole thing was just a VR simulation Raiden was experiencing, this was before MGS2 was released.

What if every game post MGS1 is just VR dreams of Jack/Raiden?

This subject exhausts me too much to post seriously about but if it makes you feel better, literally everyone in the game is lying to you and at the end when they pretend to tell you the truth they're still lying, that's the joke. Hence the renewed Escape From New York references.

Game takes place after 4: you're a brainwashed PMC cyborg mascot with cutscenes playing in your head. hth
If you want to go deep on this the Paz tapes/spot-the-difference helicopter flashbacks are a thread you can pull which will lead to a months-long nightmare world of first poring over every line and texture in Peace Walker, then the rest of the series, until your walls are covered with red string and you can't talk about the games anymore without people getting mad at you. I don't recommend it.
I'd love to hear you expound your thoughts on this.

That's kind of what MGS4 is, I think.

There are so many inconsistencies with "the truth" (and various other things in the rest of the game) that despite what Kojima fanboys say, the idea that MGSV is just Big Boss losing his mind or being in a coma dream are perfectly valid interpretations.

I've always found it interesting that a group of faggots who desperately began to cite the "MGS2 was a VR simulation!" theory in the 2010's as a reason Kojima is a genius are so obtusely against the idea that MGS V is a coma dream or psychosis event.
I definitely like the idea of MGSV not being real.

For all of V's faults though, riding a horse through Afghanistan while listening to "Behind The Drapery" was one of the most "this is fucking COOL!" moments I've had in gaming over the last ten years.

I mean I don't think there's any faulting MGSV's gameplay, it was just the story that was a mess.

It was all pretty vague, which is what makes MGS3 possibly the best prequel in any medium, expounding on Big Boss's backstory was a great fucking idea.

Bitch, YOU'RE the autistic manchild. You're going after me over A FUCKING VIDEOGAME. You think that I have committed a crime against humanity by disagreeing with you, and now you're insulting me, forcing your opinion on me, and making me look like a retard.

YOU started this. YOU went after me for disagreeing on you over a fucking videogame, and I hope to god the higherups ban your ass for genuine faggotry.
Preciousleaf is that you?

There was enough written in supplemental material (official guides, manuals, etc.) that there was a subset of people that thought it *wasn't* going to be Big Boss and it was another MGS2 bait and switch right up until Metal Gear Solid 3 came out.

Originally, Big Boss was way older, old enough to fight in World War II (this is why Liquid claims he was in his late 50's when he and Solid were created). He also lost his eye in the 1980's due to shrapnel from a landmine going off and it was what made him retire from the mercenary world and form/command Foxhound. (MGS V added an additional coma to the background as well.)

There might have been other stuff about him (I seem to recall small things like Big Boss was Times "Man of the Year" and stuff like that), but those were the *big* changes to his established background that I remember before MGS3. I'm pretty sure the rest of it was pretty much what they stuck with, worlds most famous mercenary who fought in various conflicts throughout the 70's and 80's.

I definitely like the idea of MGSV not being real.

It's honestly the interpretation I go with in my head. I like MGS V's gameplay even if it feels half baked, but the story is just too fucking ridiculous even for Kojima. Back when I cared more I actually took the time to figure out all the details that didn't make sense, but these days the only things I care to remember are that it made no sense that the signal for Ocelot was "V has come to" when "V" was the one who was kept under sedation and Ocelot and Big Boss supposedly brought him out of it themselves, and the fact that there's like a 30 minute time gap Kojima deliberately shows off between Ocelot rescuing Big Boss from the Ambulance crash and returning for Venom which makes no fucking sense when Cypher AND the man on fire were literally just a quarter mile away from them in helicopters chasing them.

It's like you either have to acknowledge that Kojima clearly had something else going on in the background, or he's just didn't give a fuck/just wrote the entire "truth" scenario horribly. Now, I'm one to readily say that Kojima is a fucking hack, but the guy put a whole subplot in the game where Venom Snake completely hallucinates events involving him, Ocelot, Miller and Paz being together, talking, recording audio tapes etc. etc. so even I'm going to say he clearly wanted the idea that Snake was suffering from some form of delusions/hallucinations/psychosis to be present.

I like all MGS (MGS3 is in my top five of all time) and I would kill to have remakes of the two first metal gear games. We need more games with solid Snake.
