Got mgsv on sale and been playing it , it feels very unfinished in aspects , like where the hell are the civs
That was one the biggest missed opportunities in 5. In Afghanistan, you never see the Russian occupation force engage with rebels. Same with the Africa section, there are three different mercenary companies and the locals. They never cross paths or fight each other. One of the main gameplay aspects of 4 was you were in the middle of a war zone and had to navigate between the two sides during battle. This was something that definitely should have been implemented in 5. It would have made infiltrating a base in the middle of a siege really interesting.
I just want a next gen MGS 3 remake, is that too much to ask? You sold out Konami, just fucking do it already.
I feel like 3 still holds up to a certain extent. The controls are a little antiquated. I think if any Metal Gear games deserve a remake it's the ones for the NES. It would be nice to see the Solid Snake saga get reboot because to be honest, Metal Gear Solid 1 doesn't really hold up either.

Raiden . . . Are you receiving?
After twenty years, we're still here . . .

I think MGS3 super holds up. Controls can be tough to master, but once you do, the sky is the limit as far as your tactical options.

I agree that there are other games in the franchise that are more deserving of a remaster tho, for 3 I'd be fine with a new remaster that included all the modern visual shennanigans and updated textures.

My most recent was a no camo/no Mk22 run. I found it to be harder than a no kill run because the Mk22 is so OP, even with limited ammo. The Volgin fight is, ironically, much tougher since his stamina drops faster than his health; ergo, no Mosin Nagant.

The fork has no kill animation, unlike the knife. I really wanted to shank someone during the prison break. It took several thrusts. (#`∀´)っ─∈
Oh no is this another faggot situation like with Woolsey's Chrono Trigger being "the worst thing ever" because he didn't add -sama to every time characters refer to an important person.
"One thing that I just had to bust up on was, I saw one translation in which the whole game, it must have been a thousand pages long, all done in the Japanese syntax with the verb at the end. So like, 'I you and they want and have a good time to go.'" - Ted Woolsey on fan translations

Speaking of movie references... (I have no clue if these are real or imagined homages)
  • Raiden's debriefing by Solidus is strikingly similar to Total Recall. And there are a few other similarities: Lori's behavior when she's found out, and Edgemar demanding that Quaid turn off the game.
  • Stillman and Fatman's relationship mirrors Star Wars. Stillman, realizing he's been outdone, finds himself at peace and reassures Raiden that he can dismantle the final bomb. The actor who played Anakin in ROTJ, Sebastian Shaw, closely resembles Fatman.
  • Disgruntled military types holding an island hostage by pointing missiles at civilians. Harry Gregson-Williams also composed the music for The Rock.
  • The Colonel's face evokes the paranoia film They Live.
  • Raiden as star of The Truman Show. The ordeal ends when he crashes a ship straight through the set dressing.

I bought metal gear survive off the current steam sale and am going to play it. Pray for me kiwis.

I played it. I don't remember the single player being that bad. In fact there were a few parts near the start that could have been legit decent horror with a little bit more effort (the part where you have to infiltrate an old medical platform filled with spider things I think)

I finished it but don't remember much past that part with the spider things. I don't remember hating it though, just thinking that an actual base defense/conquest game in the real Metal Gear world (where you're Outer Heaven/Diamond Dogs just protecting shit from Russian/Africans/Other PMC's) would have been a lot cooler than crystal zombies though.

I'd bet money that more of them are real than not. Kojima is a notorious cinephile after all, and many (myself included) would say his best work is done when he's "paying homage" to as many films as he can.

I finally got around to playing Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain recently, and it really bummed me out. I knew that Venom Snake is actually Big Boss, but a lot of the other details I never got spoiled on. How the game's development was all fucked up and it's basically incomplete, the jarring ending, how Eli's story never gets resolved unless you watch a bonus DVD, how David Hayter got replaced for no real reason. Such a sour note to end the franchise on, and it just kind of made me sad.

Even if it was just in Phantom Pain, if Venom Snake is supposed to be a perfect double of Big Boss, he should sound like him too. Vocal cord manipulation would hardly be the biggest oddity in the franchise.
Liquid can be explained away by his nationality.

Solidus is older, so I guess he sounds different... but Snake sounds gruffer than either of them? It opens up too many questions, methinks.

Ground Zeroes and Ishmael... they offer nothing but plot holes. The game should have started in the infirmary. Have David Hayter reprise Big Boss in the ending when he debriefs Venom. Very meta, while paying tribute to both actors.

Solidus was groomed from birth to be a politician, so clearly the Patriots sent him to elocution classes. You don't want your President saying "hhhhhnh, a debt crisis?!"

George Sears did nothing wrong

An even bigger case of squandered potential that Liquid.
When Raiden beat him in MGS2, he didn't technically die? He was left brain dead and his body was kept on life support? Mama just crème brûléed him and Liquid so she could reconstruct Big Boss?

Still blows my mind that this is Snake's conclusion. Apparently he can't even kill himself correctly.
