Finished it on Euro. All of a sudden today I've had two crashes.

View attachment 7860222
I'm currently attempting to do a Euro Extreme full Gold Camo Foxhound playthrough to really push myself and it's a real pain in the ass. Once I finish this I think I'll probably be done with the game for a long while (until FOX Hunt comes out), since I'll have gotten my money's worth of playtime.

And now tim sweeney's blaming devs for UE5's shit performance. Nevermind the fact their own game fortnite also suffers from stuttering. It sounds like that latest patch might have caused more issues considering crashes are happening to more people now. Probably won't be touching this for awhile after completing the initial run as I've got a bunch of other stuff to play that won't shit the bed constantly.

Yeah I saw that video of that guy that did it. That's just too much suffering for me to do it. I'll give the Fox hunt a try when it drops. I hope they do more DLC but I wouldn't bet on it. Mods are coming out everyday now.

Unfortunately the usual Steam Deck recorder plugin is fucked right now and I didn't realize this until after I had tried to find my recording files so I can't really prove my full run and I'm quite pissed about that. But I did manage to record my Rassvet Ocelot Unit encounter because I was in Desktop mode for a short bit while playing and was using OBS. Nothing really all that super impressive here though, I didn't do it in under a minute and thirty seconds like I now see this guy did.

FWIW I didn't actually watch that whole video, I realized the second I saw it in my feed that I wanted to try it blind for myself, and watching/copying his routes would be a cop-out. I did click and skip right to the end to see the rank and his time before I started mine though (my finished run is about twenty minutes behind his).

how is it running on steam deck btw?
Fluctuates between 20-35 fps on lowest settings, with it I think usually hovering pretty good around thirty; but I don't really regularly keep performance monitoring stuff on because it distracts me from actually playing the game, so I'm going more on how it feels/what I remember from briefly having the metrics on. I think some super intense sequences drop to as low as 15ish fps but where I noticed that was only in the on-rails parts (ending chase scenes) so it's really not a big deal because at that point you're just spamming the mosin at the bikes chasing you. I obviously consider it playable, I'm not particularly sensitive to low framerates, but yeah. Some areas can be bumped up to medium shadows to make it look better without too much performance loss but I wouldn't really recommend that unless you're wanting to make the cutscenes prettier because at some locations it does cause it to chug more.

e: No crashes either btw. I don't know if that's luck or something but yeah.

Right I've been doing a MGS3 playthrough on an emulator mostly to test how hard I can crank it before seeing if anything breaks, turns out the only thing that really breaks are the flame effects making the Fury fight and the start of the Sorrow 'fight' a 4 fps fucking mess.

Lets talk Sokolov for a moment, this is such a retarded storyline. So this dude is one of the greatest minds of the USSR in terms of weaponry even though he just wants to work on space rockets. So from the get go he's working against his will on this nuclear tank for very scary people and wants to get away from it, when he's finally smuggled to the US he's used as a pawn to stop a nuclear crisis so Russia gets him back.

So right away there's a very big flaw with any extraction for the guy, if the US gets him then obviously the USSR are going to do all they can to get him back. Maybe you could say that by proving the US weren't responsible for a nuclear attack on the USSR and disposing of Volgin would allow the US to get him and that'd be that, but obviously when Khrushchev is no longer leader of the USSR the next guy would do all they could to get Sokolov to prevent the US from getting a world ending machine.

Then, after Volgin forces him to continue to work on the tank to completion, he encounters Snake who says he wants to destroy the entire facility to prevent the tank from becoming a weapon of mass destruction. Sokolov says he doesn't want to escape, he wants to die in the facility explosion because he knows that he'll never be safe as he'd only be put on similar projects in the US. Then he's basically tortured to death before Snake's interrogation.

So get this, the guy who knew that his work (that couldn't be completed without him) was terrifying and dangerous and likely to cause the end of the world if it was pushed to completion actually FINISHES his fucking project before having a revelation that maybe he should kill himself? If Snake shot him in the head in the first encounter then literally everything would have been solved. If Sokolov killed himself before phase 2 then the same thing would be accomplished, he was in a fucking room with a furnace in it so could have stuck his head in there as a last resort. They couldn't just move to the Metal Gear project as a contingency plan as the technology wasn't there to actually begin production on it so the tank would have been practically useless.

Sokolov is a complete and utter fucking retard. He didn't think to maybe sabotage the project a little or encounter a 'problem' that would delay things? He just powered through this project knowing the consequences and how he'd probably be shot once it's completed and he's no longer needed? His family are safe in the US so Volgin couldn't even threaten to kill them if he doesn't finish the project, he does it entirely out of his own free will.

Of all the stupid plotlines to get hung up on, Sokolovs is a strange one. The fact a nerd got bullied and tortured into working on something and is to much of a coward to kill himself is probaly the most grounded part of any metal gear plot ever lol.

Even if you accept this premise axiomatically, it's still Epic's fault that Unreal requires way more expertise and fiddle-fucking than other engines to get anything but the abysmal performance that we see over and over again.

Are there any UE5 games that run really well? If Sweeney is right, surely some game out there demonstrates the incredible prowess of the engine when left in capable hands.

metal gear solid 3 might be the only game that kojima ever made where is "magic" actually works. good balance between cinematics, gameplay, tone and his retarded quirks. again its a shame what he did to the IP after 3 and im glad konami fired his ass.

It's the local council deciding on a park bench vs nuclear reactor thing. Sokulov's issue is grounded and based on grounded human reactions whereas 95% of the fucky things in the Metal Gear Solid franchise are space wizard shit that's so obnoxiously over the top that there's no point in even arguing it.

I'll say this though, I've just finished MGS3 for the third or fourth time and honestly this might be the last time I play it for another few years because I keep forgetting just how bullshit some segments are until you actually get around to playing it. Is it a good game that has absolutely insane mechanics that shouldn't work on a PS2? Sure. Does it have a captivating narrative? Sure. Does it have some incredible moments that stick with you forever? Sure. But somehow it feels like a slog to get from point A to point B, some of the bosses are just not fun and at times it feels more like I'm fighting with the controls than against actual enemies.

Maybe it's just my muscle memory being fucked up by the control system going completely against everything no matter how much I put myself in MGS mode. There's been so many times I've been ready to take the shot and hit R2 instead of square resulting in me missing the shot and alerting everyone, and don't get me started on how some guns aim with L1 and some guns aim with R1. Although tbh I do kinda get it in a way, it was basically MGS2 but more advanced and changing the entire control scheme would have been just as diverse as keeping it.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Its legit the only UE5 game I haven't seen people actively shit on for its terrible performance.

So I just realized there was new dialogue recorded with Otacon and Mei Ling for the Xbox exclusive Snake vs Bomberman mode (that replaces Snake vs Monkey on that platform).

What the fuck! Now Mei Ling has her accent back? Not for Twin Snakes or Metal Gear Solid 4, but for a filler game ment to placate Sony?

I now fully belive Kojima is a retard nigger who told everyone to not use accents because he's a fucking faggot.

I don't know why this makes me so Mati, but now I'm excited for the future of Metal Gear.

Them bringing back these two, and giving back her original accent in a retcon of a retcon, kinda makes me want to put more weight behind the rumor of an MGS1 remake having been in development for a little while now. Or maybe that's confirmation bias schizophrenia, idunno.

She sounds like she's sort of going in and out of her accent. It sounds a bit weird, but the effort is still commendable.
