Is it just me, or does the act of successfully loading an AK quickly make you feel accomplished? The gun is such an ergonomic nightmare in so many ways compared to modern guns, it's like I can't help but feel like I did something rad when I don't fuck it up.

I learned a neat little trick a while back for doing rapid magazine changes on rifles like the AK and FAL with rock in/out magazines. If you hold the new mag in your support hand, hit the magazine release with your support hand thumb, and kick out the spent magazine with the fresh one then you can switch mags pretty fast. I used to be able to swap mags and rack the charging handle in less than a second, but I'm out of practice.

I've tried that, but I found that my magazine catch was so stiff that the empty wouldn't be knocked out of place by the time the lever snapped back into place. What did work was holding the fresh mag in my hand, pushing the lever with my thumb, and then using my fingers to push the empty out and bring the new one into place as it falls.

I also find it not only faster, but far more comfortable to rack the charging handle going under the gun.

I put a CNC Warrior vented flash hider on my Galil today. More flush with the barrel and IMO looks better then the standard bird cage flash hider. Didn't buy the AR18.

Some updated pics of my Steyr AUG. I've got a Magpul sling and AFG foregrip mounted on it now. Still no optics or iron sights yet because all my money right now is going to pay for my LMT MWS308, but once I've got that paid for I'll be getting optics and more magazines for both rifles.

Combo breaker! ;)

I picked up a beautiful Madsen M47 a few weeks ago. It's the last production military bolt action rifle and was pretty much put into storage as soon as they were ordered. It's the 2nd best rifle I've ever shot (Swiss K31 is the best I've shot). I picked it up for $400 and I really think it's one of the hidden treasures at most shows since not a lot of people seem to know what it is since it sort of comes off as a sporting rifle instead of a military rifle.

Damn man, that's a nice turnbolt. What caliber?

30-06. The best part it's very well balanced and pleasant to shoot. Most of them are also in extremely good shape because they just never got used. Mine's in the same shape as the one in the photo.

I'm totally jealous man. As much as I love modern tactical and military style weapons I do love me some classic wood and steel.

In my case, I'm all about wood and steel, preferably in full power or even magnum rifle calibers. AUGH YEAH

But I can get behind modern tactical stuff too, so don't flame me on that.

I'd go for a Madsen if I had the cash or a desire to add another caliber to my collection. Best part is, ammunition isn't too difficult to find. @Zim, what's the price point on one of these? Do they come with original accessories/are they available? (cleaning kit/bayonet/etc)

Try the Enfiled N.4 it was made as a battle rifle until the 60's in the plant about 4 miles away from me, and is still used by a few military forces in a non ceremonial fashion the Indian mountain units love it and the Canadian artic patrols love it. I have one I use as my Deer rifle, and it's still used as a training rifles in a few branches of the British army where accuracy is important.

Today I found out that there is some one making .455 rolled brass ammunition with period primers and powder not far from me so I might pick up a box an see what my Martini -Hennry can do, it's been sitting in my safe for god knows how long but it looks like it was never issued and it's been taken care off so I might put one or two through it.

I've seen them from around $400 to $600. Usually the ones around $600 come with bayonets. Mine has no bayonet so it was pretty cheap. If you find one of these rifles grab it. ;)

I dunno man, I've kind of maxed out my defense budget for the near future. I usually shoot 7.62x54R combloc surplus (green spam can shit) because it's cheap and readily available to me. If I see a Madsen, though, I know a guy with an FFL who can transfer it to me.

I just threw down for an accessory kit (bag, cleaning kit, sling, etc.) and a bayonet for the PSL I'm constructing. Original accessories/items that would make sense to go with the firearm are a must for me.

A PSL is one of the few sniper rifles I want. I'm a bit jelly.

It's not easy finding all the components for one, I kinda lucked out and scored an all matching kit for $500 (minus barrel and receiver). Unfortunately, completed models are not imported to the US at this time. Mine's not complete yet, but if you want to discuss details, feel free to PM me.

Some folks who roll their own, like I do, either collect the individual components, or save up for one of the few complete parts kits still in existence. Although the price has gone up, they're still relatively accessible, and, like the Madsen M47, one of the hidden gems a lot of people don't even know exist.

Finally got out to the range with the new Norinco CQ-A. It's a pretty good clone compared to the American AR's, with some minor differences such as a commercial buffer tube and a 14.5" barrel.

I've been messing around with my Type 53 to turn it into a hunting rifle. I bought a Brass Stacker scout scope mount for it and replaced the cracked wooden stock with an ATI Monte Carlo Mosin stock. I got a Hi Lux 2-7 LER scope for it, but it was such a giant piece of shit I couldn't get it zeroed and I'm sending it back. I'm probably just gonna mount a Bushnell TRS25 red dot on the scope mount for now. Once I get optics squared away I want to glass bed the action into the stock, free-float the barrel, and get the trigger lightened up.
