If we're talking big, mean, 4-legged creatures I say make sure your 10mm is at least 180 gr running at 1300+ fps. If it's niggers or other thirdworlders you can run 200 gr at about 1200ish fps no problem.
9x19 is fine for black bear and under, there's videos of people dropping whitetail with compact 9mm guns from a stone's throw away no problem. But whenever you get into the caliber war it turns into a massive shitshow of what the minimum should be and why your favorite calibers are anemic, let alone handguns and the "puts holes in people" argument.

1) Nuh uh!, 2) all semiauto pistols are anemic compared to what is best to lug around for bear yeeting, 3) if you can do your part, a 10mm might not kill the bear before it gets you but they'll find its body not far from yours. Also 10mm is very cool and all the guys with big titty goth girlfriends shoot it. Just sayin'

The vast majority of commercial 10mm is “fed lite” and just .40S&W with a smug hipster complex. With hand loading or the right manufacturers it gets close to .41 Magnum.
Agreed. If using 10mm for backcountry defense you want 190+gr going 1200+ fps. Also avoid HP as they will open up too quickly to hit vitals.

200gr at 1200 is the magic number. Most of the commercial ammo marketed for backcountry defense is around that mark. Getting 180gr up to 1300 is tough without playing fast and loose with SAAMI MAP.
9mm has killed a lot of dangerous animals too....
Most common round involved in bear defense shootings by virtue of being common in general and being better than carrying nothing at all.

Most people carrying 10mm for backcountry defense are out west. It seems to be following the trend that trades some performance for a lot of magazine depth.

The new part is that you can de-register the item while keeping it in an NFA configuration without committing a federal crime.
I mean when it comes to registration, the ATF honestly treats it as tracking the tax stamp, as legally speaking, the ATF only has authority to inspect your tax stamps not the firearms associated with them since the Tax stamp is a permit for you to possess the specific firearm it's assigned to with a short barrel attached.

'Deregistering' your SBR with the ATF has always just been a courtesy and never legally required and the only time not 'deregistering' would cause issues down the road is if you sell it and who ever owns it decides they want to form 1 it, then it causes the ATF to get really confused.

Bullpup KAC LAMG, Finally some good pictures. Now, as badass as this thing is, it's also kind of janky, because basically KAC took a normal LAMG, tilted it 45 degrees and then bolted on a vertical pistol grip and tilted red dot mount

Some juicy HICAR News, if a company is talking about HICAR, it means that they're not one of the three manufacturers downselected. So Geissele is out, a guy attending AUSA claims to have talked to Jason St. John who admitted Sig is out, so that leaves KAC, LMT, DD and maybe SOLGW as contenders for the donwselect

Hornady is doing something with 5.56 SAAMI spec? Sounds like some boring nerd shit only barrel manufacturers would care about

Fuck this GLOCK in 10mm shit. What you want is an HK Mark 23 loaded with either .45 Super or .450 SMC. That there's a REAL man's back country black bear defense gun!
Picked one of them up that had been sitting on a shelf earlier this year, holy hell does it live up to the price tag. Hands down the best out of the box gun on the market, the end all be all of .45 design. Now all I need is to get the B&T suppressor and I'll be able to die happy if I never bought another pistol again.

Just remember, back country defense in bear countries isn't just bears, it includes humans too. That Montana camper that got murdered because some jackass got upset he took his favorite spot is a great example.
Also, yeah a 454 cascull can yeet a grizzly, but that's if you 1) Hit, 2) manage to draw it from a holster. So training is more important than gun choice usually. Train with what you carry, and train hard.

But I also shoulder/SOB carry on top of side carry, I also had/(have) a 7.62x25 as an EDC in my rotation so my opinion is invalid according to ree-dit retards.
If you want something to carry on your person outside the house, I recommend any CZ-75 or clone of one except the EAA/Tangfolio one. The 75B is the larger full size model and in my opinion the absolute gold standard for My First Nine. My personal favorite is the Jericho 941 with a steel frame, no I didn't buy it because of anime I swear I just like the heft of the steel over aluminum or polymer. For something more concealable, the CZ-75D is a more compact model.
I should have clarified its strictly for home defense. Theres no black bears here, but there are alot of youths.
Just remember you'll need to mill out optics on the 75s. The SP/P 01 has a rail for a light, you should probably have a light for home defense. Just don't treat your gun as a flashlight unless you plan on putting holes through the object it shines on. Maybe also a suppressor...

The military EPVAT and SAAMI both use conformal pressure transducers to measure pressure however the placement of those transducers is different. SAAMI has it read through the case wall which protects the expensive transducer but requires a unique offset to account for the case wall. The military EPVAT standard reads at the case mouth and exposes the transducer to the hot gases causing excessive wear. Because of the location difference the pressure readings for the same load will be different and are not interchangeable. Also the distance for velocity is different. SAAMI measures velocity at 10’ while NATO specifies 58.5’. Most of these differences are due to the NATO testing procedure being developed first in the late 1960s with SAAMI refining it for use in commercial ammunition testing in the early 1970s.

TLDR: the military and commercial testing procedures are different. This is just 5.56 NATO standardized to SAAMI testing methods, hence the giant disclaimer from SAAMI.

Hmmmm looks a bit unsubstantiated....

We'll see next year.

More interesting is hopefully the fact that SIG is 110% out. Plz let it be so.

Also, M27 numbers would be awesome, that's a solid 100k+ rifles 😎

KAC, LMT and SD would all make a good rifle but idk man that Geissele HICAR looks great.

What a total piece of utter shit Mark Milley saddled the US Army with
Sig Saar M250A1, barrel chopped to 13" from 16", said barrel is now Quick Change, Sig expects the Army to order it
Lol the muzzle flash and report on these will be hilarious unsuppressed

It's rifle cousin the M8 has a 10 inch fucking barrel to drop weight.... What the ever loving fuck is the US Army thinking? Imagine a 10 inch piston driven AR-10 goddamn.... Peak retardation.

Hardcast SWC will poke deep enough with .357 and even 10mm, the actual problem is shot placement under the duress of a huge fuckoff bear running at you.
Weight is the thing. with velocities such as they are in pistols you want weight so the bullet carries on through the animal. A 300gr .44 or .45 hard cast or bonded projectile will penetrate a bear/elk or cow lengthwise easily. especially long nose projectiles with the balance of the weight towards the meplat.

a 158gr .357 or 140-180gr 10mm is much more susceptible to deflection on contact with large skeletal structures.

Carbines and rifles even the field, though of course a .44 or .45 (or .50) carbine will outperform a .357 or 10mm and the recoil is manageable for everyone except cripples. 10mm lever guns are retarded, and SMG/MSR style carbines actually kinda suck to tote around all day because of the magazine hindering carry around the balance point.

Just to confuse things more, the US military uses a testing procedure more in line with SAAMI so Technical Manuals end up listing the same ~55,000psi rating for "NATO" m855 as you get on retail .223 Rem, and then there's the euro C.I.P. which tests midcase like SAAMI but with an exposed transducer like EPVAT...

Now as you said this "5.56 Commercial" seems to be simply NATO chamber dimensions finally rubberstamped by SAAMI decades after semi-autos mass adopted it, even if they were sometimes still engraved ".223 Rem".
But what's going on here?
saamiwtf62000.png
The pressure is rated 7,000psi higher than their spec for .223 despite supposedly being tested with the same conformal transducer in the same location.
So is this really indicative of a higher rating? A veritable .223+P? Perhaps extra headroom for newer case materials to stretch their legs a bit while still being SAAMI compliant?
Or did Hornady simply convert the C.I.P. pressure rating of 4300 BAR to PSI and press send?
