Having had experience with buying guns through the CMP, I think that the biggest issue is that most people don't buy the guns intending to resell. My mom and dad both have accounts with the CMP and didn't start buying until they were over 65 so they didn't have to be a member of an organized gun club to be eligible.

Back when the selection was a lot better, my dad bought some guns, and I bought some guns through my mom's account. We both still have all of them. This includes some really high-end items like M1Cs and M1Ds. My dad has a Winchester M1D. He also got an International Harvester (just regular Service Grade, but with original stock and all original fittings including Line Mfg. Co. barrel), the very last time that they had a few in stock. We have 11 M1 Garands that came from the CMP between us. I have no intention of selling mine. I will most likely end up inheriting his as well. There's a good chance that the soonest that any of these will be on the market is about 30 years from now.

I first heard about the M14s coming available from my mom several weeks ago. They are planning to buy as many as they can get.
Why tho? I never got this boomer way of hoarding shit. I've ran into countless boomers who have to max out the 12 rifle a year limit on cmp shit, have literally 50 mitchells mausers but never shoot them or plan to sell. Does hoarding shit just feel good for them? It's so odd, I can get have a couple spare if you are planning to do different shit with the gun, or if you need spares because its a heavy use item, but these old people will have 15 mix n match springfield garands that they never shoot and will never sell.

It’s salt shaker collections but guns

One is none , 50 is 49 or something retarded. Its just hoarding behavior at that point. They might have money, but they still have poor person brain.

Because they’re shit bags. They all believe down the road they’ll be able to sell them for 6-8K a piece on GunBroker.

These are the same types of old dorks that write concern troll letters to the BATFE about stuff like FRT’s - they’re concerned about the price of their transferrables going down.

Apparently the fact that they CAN'T take all of their toys with them never occurred to the Boomers. They really should all be gassed.

The reclaimed ones are almost $800 cheaper than the new production, are the new production really that much better? Both are a mix of old parts with new barrel and stock, so unless the reclaimed receivers are just really that shit it doesn't seem worth it.
Ehh I'd rather keep the original caliber on the original guns. It's a principle thing. Unless it was rechambered.

Yep. Odious old fossils.

Have you ever bought anything from the CMP? If not, why not? It's not my fault if you guys missed out on all of the good stuff. It was all bought within the last ten years.

All the Garands I have are different from each other.

Springfield Armory (Service grade) Modern replacement stock like most of what they've sold for the past 20 years or more. Falls into the range of duplicated SA/Winchester serial numbers.

Springfield Armory M1D with GI scope mount and reproduction M84 scope, Modern stock. This was assembled by the CMP from parts, but it has their paperwork, so it counts as a legitimate M1D. Six-digit serial number (This was before they got the guns back from Greece, so it was the only sniper configuration available at the time)

Springfield Armory 7.62 Nato (Service grade) New stock and barrel, so this isn't one of the ones that the USN converted.

Springfield Armory M1D with original stock, late style stock cartouche so probably 1954 or 55 assembly date. This is a scarce, legitimate variation that Bruce Canfield wrote an article about.

Springfield Armory M1C with original stock, Scope sub-base is serial numbered to the rifle. When the CMP had these in stock, they attempted to separate out the ones with numbered bases to sell at a premium in their online auctions. They weren't always successful, my dad's M1C also has a numbered sub-base. The numbered ones were typically selling for north of $4000 around seven years ago when they had them.

The US Government paid Winchester $125 each for the M1 Garands that they made under contract during WW2. Based just on inflation and not considering the increased value of skilled labor, a Garand should cost $2400 at wholesale today.

I didn't realize that I would stir things up so much with my post. Jealousy truly is a green-eyed monster.

The good news is a lot of these old farts are going to start dropping dead soon leaving safes full of stuff their wives and children are clueless and indifferent about.

“Yeah, HK P7M13’s are kinda outdated. But I’d be happy to take it off your hands for 500 ma’am.”

I believe that you'd do something like that. You seem like the type that would cheat widows and orphans. You claim to be a cop. That alone puts you high on the potential scumbag scale.

Can't a guy beat the fuck out of his wife, run security for wealthy pedophiles, stalk his exes with Flock cameras, steal people's property, arrest people who hurt his feelings, do his best to fuck every ER nurse he can, lie about everything all the time, and generally be a massive piece of shit without getting called names on the Internet?!

I have.
The line "they heard about the m14s, and are planning to buy as many as they can get" is what caused the direct blowback you received. Why buy so many? There aren't going to be any real variants to them unless the cmp modifies the rifle themselves, in which case you could always get an LRB that would almost always out preform any milsurp welded up non-cut m14. Not to mention their actions of waiting until they are 65 instead of contributing to the local culture and participating in shooting sports paints a picture of them as a typical boomer, always ready to buy and hoard but never participating in anything that may help others.

TRW, Winchester are gonna be the collector targets. Winchester for rarity and TRW for quality. as for condition they should all be the same since they were all rebuilt in the 80s.

IDK if any M21 rifles are in the release. that'd be interesting.

I'd be super surprised if any m21's or the even more insane m39/m25/ebrwhatever got sold. I know collecting is a thing but always thought it was sort of lame, I get going after high quality or doing a specific build but I will never think chasing a specific manufacturer for the rollmark is cool, but I understand why people would. We will also have to see just how many they actually have, they all could be sold out by Apirl if they actually release when they say.

Anything of unusual quality will probably end up in live auctions. That's what they've always done in the past.

Found a screaming deal on another BA 11.3" barrel with pinned GB and had an assembled upper hanging around from a late night drunken deal purchase some months ago so I guess I'm making another upper.

So far, I've found both a Faxon Streamline handguard and a Plan B muzzle devoce for good prices and already have a CH, BCG and captive buffer setup in the parts box. I'm kinda hoping for good news from the upcoming ATF guidance on the SBR front, but worst case, I just pick up another Sig A5 brace and then slap it on a lower I like.

I don't even need another AR. I just like putting them together.
