That's basically what happened to Colorado. Since that state turned into California 2.0, they've been moving to states like Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming instead. Thankfully a lot of those states already have pretty strong pro-gun laws and the courts tend to be staffed by Conservatives, and it's pretty difficult to get into office in most areas if you run as anything other than a Republican. But it is definitely a concern.
