Hilariously, since AOWs were left untouched, there's a non-zero chance someone will be going to federal prison for putting a vertical foregrip on their gun before swapping out its pistol brace for a real stock.
Logic would dictate since AOWs were zeroed out as well any person can easily defeat any prosecution on the same grounds as this case, atleast in the 5th circuit.

Otherwise the AOW catagory is almost obsolete now, the only thing AOWs would now realistic cover are disguised firearms, since all you have to do is put a stock on any AOW now to instantly remove it from AOW status apart form disguised firearms.

My only question now is how the assault weapon case at the Supreme Court will interact with the state probitions on short barreled rifles and shotguns now since this ruling has effectively made them regular firearms under federal law.

Sounds like something a pussy would say.
After going through what ATF did to FFLs during the last administration it's hard to blame him for wanting something on paper from them over a 1am email from SilencerShop I found in the spam folder.

EDIT: Capital Armory just sent an update and they seem to think the deadline is now Oct. 5 for the ruling to be challenged so they aren't changing anything yet.

What the Court Decided

A federal judge in the Northern District of Texas ruled that, after Congress set the federal making and transfer tax at $0 for suppressors, short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns, and certain other NFA firearms, the federal government could not continue enforcing several NFA registration and approval requirements against the parties covered by the case. The court's order includes Form 1 and Form 4 requirements, registration requirements, and certain related enforcement provisions.

The ruling is limited. It is not a nationwide order, and it does not remove the NFA from federal law for everyone. It also does not apply to machine guns or destructive devices.
The federal government still has time to appeal. Because the United States is a party, its normal deadline to file a notice of appeal is October 5, 2026, subject to any court filings that could affect that deadline. An appeal by itself does not automatically stop the order, but the government may seek a stay while the appeal is pending.
(there's a lot more confusion in the link)

PSA released a video on guidance for SBSs/SBRs

TLDW you have to be both a member of GOA and a customer of PSA. You can only modify receivers that you personally purchased from PSA, purchasing a stock/sub-16" upper/barrel or any other accessory from them doesn't qualify you for the form 1 exemption, only receivers (including previously purchased complete rifles/pistols). You also still have to comply with any relevant state laws regarding SBSs/SBRs and/or NFA registration. Presumably you can also hacksaw any shotguns you've purchased from them though I don't think that was mentioned

So very limited for now, but presumably things will open up further as deadlines pass

does anyone have any info on the engraving requirements?

Seems marginal at best right now if you still have to engrave but I can't find a concrete answer.

Notice how PSA doesn't mention engraving..... which is marginal at best.

(if only the ATF who knew this would happen published guidance!)

ATF knows tons of people are going to be NOT READING what's actually covered, I'm gonna email the NFA division with a few questions and see what comes back.

my understanding is that you still have to do it as of now, but separately from this lawsuit the ATF is changing a bunch of rules including removing the engraving requirements. ATF is also making it legal to do the 4473 over the internet and phone so your gun can be mailed direct to your door.

After having a conversation with one of their engineers regarding their product development methodology I will never buy anything from them.
>$500 AR, shocked you have to fix it
>$1300 "SCAR competitor", shocked it is worse in every way
>$300 Pistol, I'm shocked it seems fine actually.

Again, if you know enough to know why their guns suck then you know any gun in that price bracket sucks. Its not unique to PSA.

And PSA is charging you fairly for the product you get, unlike BearCreek or most other shitrod brand that is scamming you outright.

I’ve played around in the bear creek end of things and the psa stuff is a lot better mostly.

It's 25 bucks a year for the GOA membership.

Like anyone is going to do that.

There's going to be some number of people who are going to do that and sure, they can be fucked over by DOJ and ATF in the future. But we aren't talking about bump stocks or giggle switches the street samurais of Detroit are using, we are talking about already in quite widespreadly used suppressors and SBR/SBSes. What this just does is making them even more widespread and closer to the "common use" argument with any future action against them having to try to tackle that. While the switches, while widespread in use, don't see as widespread use by law abiding citizens and for any sane 2A lawyer trying to argue that they are perfectly normal and within the "common use", it would be an absolutely doomed effort. But a suppressor, things change a bit.
